Hello everybody,
I’m Tony Buckley, Game Director for WipEout HD and I’m pleased to announce that the team here at Studio Liverpool have been busy working on a new expansion pack for your favourite anti-gravity racer.
And what’s more, it is set to be given its first public showing at this week’s E3 expo, so if you’re lucky enough to be attending, make sure you stop by and try it out!
The WipEout HD Fury expansion pack will increase the content of your current game with 8 new tracks, 13 new ship models and 3 new game modes, 2 of which will be available for online play! In addition there will be new trophies to attain, a re-styled front-end and a selection of new & improved multiplayer functionality!
The Eliminator game mode will allow you to release all that pent-up aggression as you use the full arsenal of Wipeout weaponry to destroy your opponents. Forget those racing lines; this is all about destruction, with the victor being the first to reach the target score!
Zone Battle is about risk and reward! Acceleration is automatic as you swoop over zone pads to fill your zone bar. Your choice is whether to use the bar to increase your speed and boost your ship ever closer to the target zone or absorb it to replenish vital lost energy. Warning, avoid the ‘zone barriers’, obstacles left on the track by your opponents as they boost towards the target zone, hitting these can literally destroy your hopes of victory!
Our Detonator mode introduces a brand new ship model to the game that will test both your piloting skills and your shooting accuracy as you accelerate through as many as 14 stages. Score points by destroying the mines that have been strewn along the track and take out the bomb on each stage to earn additional points. The more accurate you are the more points and bonuses you will score!
Just like the original WipEout HD, all the new content will be released in glorious 1080p resolution and will run at a smooth 60fps.
Take a sneak peek at a selection of screenshots.
Remember, Wipeout HD is available exclusively from PlayStation Store so check it out in readiness for the release of the Fury expansion pack coming this summer!

Sounds pretty impressive, was very disappointed with the number of tracks and the music, so perhaps this will satisfy me.

Icaras are great. Best team in the series, even if they made their first appearance at around the third title. Weak shields, but fantastic speed – they’re British too!

Thank you so much for answering my question Paul. Sounds just as expected. I have read that your team is pretty small in the past and take perfection very highly. Not sure if it’s still (or was) true about the size of your team but I can see that perfection clearly. Take care and I’ll be rooting for your game on E3 like a mad fangirl

Just wanted to say that I love you guys !!!
I have been playing since 15-20 years, and I don’t think there’s a game that I enjoyed much. The first part for less than 20 euros was unbelievable, can’t wait for the second one !
So, I really really thank you for the quality of your work, because today, there are really just a few games that I enjoy. And thank you for the new trophies, the fight for the platinum trophy is certainly the best memory of my entire gaming life.

Hey Paul, will the kills in the other modes count towards the AG Assassin trophy?
Why are people wondering what the price is going to be? As long as it’s not over $20, it’s gonna be a first day purchase from me.

Hey Wipeout team.
Please make it so, so you dont have to keep holding the X button down for speed, i have ruined 2 X buttons on 2 controllers just by playing Wipeout. The X button on my controllers are so ****** up, that i have to press with all my finger strenght just to get up to full speed. This cant be right, so please reverse the X button so it speeds up to max speed when you arent touching the button.
Please please…..!
And if you would think about releasing the Wipeout Pure PSP game soundtrack to the PS3 game, then this wuould be so great.
Because the soundtrack from Wipeout Pure was with out a doubt the best soundtrack any of the Wipeout games.
Best regards and highest hopes from Encoded.

Hi Studio Liverpool,
I know that your adding 13 new ships to the game, which are more or less “concept” ships (which is a good thing, they look awesome) as far as I can see.
Are you going to add Tigron and Van-Uber?
Like the game, I’m INSTANTLY going to download WipEout HD Fury pack (same with Big Surf Island). I’m looking forward to everthing included, especially Eliminator!
Thanks

It is not released yet, but I believe it is coming on noisia’s own label ‘Vision’ (yeah that spells noisia upside down), I suspect on their album which drops later this year.

Seriously SL, you have done a brilliant job with WipEout. I’ve been playing it since I was three, and have loved every minute of it. If I could, I’d buy you guys some beer.;)

Thank you guys so much for putting so much effort into the original and the expansion. This is my favourite ps3 game so far, i love the custom soundtrack as well, I wish other games would use this as well.
Still battling away at the trophies lol

This pack looks good but Wipeout HD is unfortunately too difficult for a lot of gamers and that’s put a lot of people off.
The sad thing is, it’s not actually the racing or tracks that are too difficult – it’s trying to pull off the barrel rolls in all the right places. Failure to do so often means a crash and no gold / silver / bronze medal (or trophies)!
I’m voicing my own opinion here, but I would like to suggest that Studio Liverpool should look at removing barrel rolls from the game in such a way as to make the game faster (improved lap times) and also make the medals and trophies more attainable. My suggestion to make this possible would be to add a ‘boost’ button which drains ship energy – similar to Wip3out. Time trials could ensure 5 boosts or so – to cover where barrel rolls would normally be required. Finally Zico may then be beatable…? As far as I can see that’s the only way to improve current lap times and revert to old school anti-G Wipeout racing. I hope you’re listening Studio Liverpool!
Thanks!

At post 81. I’m not certain, but I believe you can adjust the sensitivity of the air brakes & accelerator in the menus. I think 100% means very sensitive so you have to press the button down harder.
I also just wanted to make one more point about my last post (96) and trophies. If barrel rolls were removed, the barrel roll trophies could simply be adjusted to ‘boosts’ instead of ‘barrel rolls’ (still a nice & easy one to get)!
Barrel rolls are a nice idea, but I personally think they don’t work reliably enough. Many times I’ve pressed the d-pad combo correctly but just been a few pixels too low to pull off a full 360 degree roll. I think replacing barrel rolls with Wip3out style boost could be just what the game needs to ease up on the frustration factor for many gamers.
Thanks.

Actually, now that I think about it… The problem isn’t that barrel rolls are in the game. The problem is that you have to do a barrel roll to get a speed boost. A solution for this could be to turn off the barrel roll boost and add a button to boost (and drain energy) instead. That would allow the show-off’s to carry on as usual (but without the boost). Oh well, enough moaning from me!

I think you guys you are complaining about Wipeout HD being too hard are missing the point, and as for changing controls to allow easy speed boosts that would be unfair to the people who could do the original trophies.
The idea of trophy is that it is something to acheive and not every person should be able to get every trophy in every game – what would be the point or sense of reward in that?
I like that Wipeout HD trophies are hard because it means that I go back to it, if it were too easy I would have never played it again. Whereas with this I sometime turn on my PS3 and think “let me try Zone Zeus or beat Zico again”.
I am a pretty average gamer and I at least managed to get Campaign legend and a few of the tricky trophies, and while the remainder are very hard I know they are not impossible, so I try again.
I guess it comes down to whether you are a gamer who likes a challenge or not.
Anyway thanks Studio L’pool, can’t wait

The game is hard, but thats the charm of the game and im also a pretty average player to, but i have manage to get nearly all the gold medals on elite on the tracks/events i have played so far.
I think i only need to play 10 “tracks/events” to finish the game.
But when i play online i get my ass kicked, so….
