you know I may just have to get me a psp go – bit of MGS, GT and Resi, oh yeah!!
Really enjoyed the focus on games, rather than endless celebs making arses of themselves.
Nice conference – looking forward to giving MAG a go.

Guess I’m in the wrong place here or watched the wrong E3 press conference as I seem to be the only one who’s completely underwhelmed by what I saw and heard.

All I can say is WOW! I’m not saying this just because this is a PS blog but you really nailed it Sony! It had just about everything I wanted in it – and I loved the almost constant subtle digs at Microsoft from PSP’s “true sequel” to the MGS franchise to the PS Motion Controllers “some things can only be done properly with a button” and “this just wouldn’t feel right if I wasn’t holding something”. Also GT5 + Damage + Night + WRC + NASCAR = MS eating their words about Forza 3 being the “definitive racing game of this generation”.
And what a line up of games! Reminding everyone that the PS3 still has games at it’s core with loads of trailers and bucket loads of exclusives. Plus they all looked gorgeous! Enjoy Facebook & Twitter aps 360 fanboys we’ll console ourselves with playing the best games so far this gen!
E3 should be about growing your wanted list – and some of the (exclusive) games on show from Sony have certainly been added to my list. From that cool LBP style racer to the new Rockstar exclusive to Final Fantasy XIV Online in 2010 – I’d like to see arguments against the statement that Sony just owned MS at E3!!!

I love that the PSP Go will have only downloadable games and that the games will also have a UMD.
My question is, is there a way I can download some of my old PSP games? Either by entering a product code of something to show that I have purchased the game, as I would love just to have the console with me with all my favorite PSP games as well (old and new).
I think this is something that Sony should do, and I feel that if this feature was available, that it would really help the sales of the PSP Go.

Just to add I was worried about Sony’s answer to Wii after Microsoft’s mocked up Project Natal video – but the Sony version looks great and the augmented reality aspect of holding things in you hand will be a big draw for the kids in the Wii market – my nephews will love that!
Best of all – it was all real, all live and even has a release date – Spring 2010. Also out of the 3 it looks like the one with the most “hardcore gaming” potential – the accuracy is amazing (far better than waving your hands about!).
At last a use for my PS Eye!

Almost everything that was showed is due to come out in 2010! And there is no release date for GT5! It’s really disappointing. American people had FF VII, while we have to wait to see something interesting, as usually.

Again a lot of ‘One Vision’… What a missed chance though not to play the Laibach version for the God of War trailer

Next stop is the Leipzig Game Convention in August – I’m hoping, given the announcement that the PSP Go will launch in Europe at the same time as the US, that Sony will use the opportunity to launch a European version of the Video Store – not much good having a digital only PSP without the same digital content they can access already in the US!

At first I thought Microsoft were going to win E3, it was almost impossible to beat them.
Nintendo showed us great games we loved (but had gotten old) but didn’t show ANY innovation.
THEN SONY…
Games, games, games, games, games, new PSP, games, games, games.
Pretty much every game I WANT NOW! At least we get Uncharted 2 Beta tommorow!

Good E3 Sony, Could of done with less videos, More live gameplay would of been nice.
When will the Video store be coming to UK?

Posted on 2 June, 2009 at 9:41 pm by Apnomis
@ bravo9zero (69) – are you crazy? It was full of live gameplay in fact I think everything shown for the PS3 was live gameplay apart from FFXIII, FFXIV (surprise of E3 so far), The Last Guardian and GT5.
This was very unlike Sony, who have been known in the past for going the CG route – I was really impressed with the all the live gameplay elements – even the new controller was live. In contrast it was MS who were very heavy on the pre-rendered and ‘mocked up’ trailers this year.
What more would you have wanted to see?

That conference was fail. it was a bit like Man vs Barca final, first 10 min were awesome, then… just fail all the way.
who in their right minds will buy a psp at 250 euros, when they can get a wii + wii fit for that price.
Sony, really bad move.
Only a price cut will save your [DELETED] this time.

@ HereIsMartin (34) – you’re right the PlayStation Store has been redesigned. It seem bluer and the icons seem smaller, also there is now a search function, and a very clever little shadow cast at the bottom of the screen that changes when you select different things.
Also the Cuboid add-on content has been reduced from £7.99 to £3.99! I guess when they updated the store it was the EU pricing that was right and the UK pricing that was wrong, contrary to what they said at the time.

What an absolutely mind blowing conference!
Awesome job Sony!
I only have a single question though; will we also be getting FFVII in the EU?

I thought Sony was going to have a tough ride today, but I thought they did exceptionally well.
The PSP redesign looks like a vast improvement with a real push on lowering the development costs, which should drive development massively.
The new motion controller also looked like the first real motion controller that you could actually use in games!
and finally all those games, games, games, games, games, games!
Keep the momentum going Sony!

A bit disappointing, I’m sorry to say.
Only real new stuff was the PSP Go (which I don’t care about) and the motion controllers which are pretty cool.
And then of course all the games that were already expected, and for most of them not released until spring 2010.
What about livechat, facebook/twitter/skype integration, european video store, HD video streaming, PS2 game downloads for PS3 …. things that I was hoping for.

LOL @ Darkos87, is your name ZedZee per chance (old ThreeSpeech in-joke
)
Pricing of the PSP Go aside there was nothing at that Conference that was fail! It’s the best Sony Press Conference I’ve watched in years! The first 10 minutes were stats and about the PS2, so I’m not sure what made those so great?
They were never going to announce a price cut at E3 – it would have overshadowed all that great content – a price cut announcement would have been a cheap headline grabber for a someone with nothing good to show. A price cut will come later this year – but my money is on it being US only.

Just going back to the PSP Go price, as far as I can tell it’s roughly €50 more than the PSP-3000 – that doesn’t sound all that much for a device that is 50% smaller, 42% lighter, has built in wi-fi and bluetooth (I don’t think the PSP3000 has bluetooth does it?) and also has 16GB internal memory. I can see a lot of people going for this – and I predict it will be HUGE in Japan, they love their tiny gadgets! Design wise it’s also much more practical to carry around and doesn’t look game console not in use (like the folded up DS doesn’t). Also using it as a media player for MP3 or video is more practical with it’s new design.
True to the Sony nature of 10 year hardware, there is nothing on the PSP Go that would annoy or issolate other PSP owners (like touch screen or right analogue nub – things for the true PSP2).

I missed some things in the presentation.
like :
– vidzone (release + countries)
– videostore to more countries (is it even comming to more countries)
– psncards(sory but it is needed)
– new firmware with in/cross-game chat
but they did awsome with the games section. a lot of games and some exclusieve. very nice titles.
Hope ps blogs can find these things out of my list. do your best !

well that was a very nice show… only thing missing was info on the Videostore launch in europe, but actually thats not their job @ E3…. its this blog’s job to give info on progresss for that, but i hope SCEE will launch it soon since microsoft will….

No word on Video Store for Europe, no PS3 firmware news, would have preferred a new PSP with dual analog, touchscreen and better graphics, trophies, friend list and more power rather than a revision with awkward slide out controls.
Need more info on Agent rather than a logo(what makes it special compared to the agency?).
No epic game, no mass effect, motion controls look good, like how they used a real time demo rather than a fake demo like Microsoft’s, but spring 2010?
And will it have the same fate as the PSEye which seems like a waste of money atm.
Too much focus on the PSPGo considering its just a revision of old software and Jack commenting on the fact that the PS2 wont die at the ten year lifespan mark was kind of sad because I think allot of people are sick of hearing about such an old console at e3 every year(We get it you won that generation, move on like everyone else.).
I will give it a few more weeks and if SCEE still don’t offer us what other divisions have had, if the PS3 doesn’t start getting useful game related updates which make online gaming better(cross game invites) then I am gone.

I think people are forgetting that E3 is normally a year ahead of the industry – if you want 2009 games go re-watch E3 2008 for reveals of games like KillZone 2, MAG, inFamous, Uncharted 2 and other 2009 games. E3 2009 is about XMas 2009 and early 2010 – just like announcements from Microsoft and Nintendo.
I swear, Sony could announce a gold plated slim PS3 with free PSP Go for £50/€75 with free streamed movies, TV, and games. With one AAA exclusive released each week for the next 5 years guaranteed, along with a built in HD projector and surround system that is completely wireless etc etc etc. and you’d still get people saying “Sony’s E3 sucked!”. Yet MS put on a pretty lame (by their standards) conference and everyone is whooping and hollering and giving hi-fives all round!
Seriously, I don’t know what it is with the internet this gen – Sony did everything right today – and addressed everything they’ve been critised for in the past and still people whinge and moan!
95
Posted on 2 June, 2009 at 10:12 pm by Apnomis
@ Jerommeke and others.
Just because this is an EU blog please remember they are covering a US event! They had more than enough content to show not to need to show EU specific content.
Come back on the 31st July for the Leipzig Game Convention – where Sony, unlike MS, traditionally have a big presence and a separate Euro-centric press conference.
If they don’t announce those things at that press conference then you can complain about it…

@Apnomis – PSPGo! is not adressing what they have done wrong in the past, its re-releasing the freaking psp for over 200euros, but go ahead and buy it. Show them your support for trying to milk you dry.
And it was real great having Sony tell us how successful the PS2 was as if its still relevant instead of addressing the issue at hand, fix the things which we have been asking to be fixed since launch and stop delaying everything in Europe.

One last thought for tonight – does anyone else think we’ve seen the stealth launch of the next console generation – a sort of generation 7.5? Both MS (for a change) and Sony have decided to reinvent current hardware rather than do a full relaunch.
Assuming both new control systems succeed at retail I think both these announcements have extended this generation by a good few years (they will need to due to R&D costs). The only thing I can see in the short term now is a WiiHD. I think the next consoles from MS and Sony may be another 5 years away now.

WOW!!! Sony really pulled their finger out on this one! Loved all of the demos, especially AC2 & FFXIII (and the unveiling of FFXIV). I must admit, when I saw Microsoft’s conference yesterday, I didn’t think that Sony would come out on top, but then Sony pulled off this truly brilliant line-up for 09/10! Well Done Sony!
Also, has anyone else noticed the new PS Store visuals?
