The SCEE team landed on the eve of E3 and our first port of call was to meet Jeff and Chris of the US blog as they held their annual pre-E3 meet with the community.
Fresh of the plane from Heathrow and with jet-lag and Jaffa Cakes in hand (thanks for the tip, X201), I hopped in a cab to Mama’s Hot Tamales Café to meet scores of PlayStation fans hungry for games and tacos.
An eager queue snaked around West 7th St. as the first 100 in were guaranteed entry to the SCEA press conference on Tuesday – some had camped outside the restaurant early that morning, such is the demand for this huge gaming event. Wearing stickers bearing their names and PlayStation Network IDs, those lucky enough to get in chatted, ate and got an early play of SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo 3 on PSP.
There was also a tournament where teams competed for PSPs and copies of the game;
Check out Jeff’s report from the event on PlayStation.blog US to see who picked up the coveted prizes.
The biggest cheer of the night came as Jeff and Chris took to the stage (well, a table) to thank everyone for coming and to announce that the lucky 100 would not only be there for Tuesday’s big announcements, they’re also invited to E3 itself and will get their hands on the biggest upcoming games.
It was lovely to see so many PlayStation fans sharing the E3 excitement and it has certainly got us thinking about what we can do back in Europe.

I think Sony are going to blitz this E3, everything was seen coming with the microsoft announcements. Apart from MGS, but that’s multiplat anyway.
Blow me away sony, it really is time for it to happen with the ps3 and psp.

Hey nice that you keep us updated.
But I really want to know a thing from you.
Is there going to be a metal gear announcement for PS3.
Or did Sony loose the whole game?
I mean PlayStation = MGS, how can Kojima do this to bring it to the 360…

Talking about events, is there a chance you’ll do events like Threespeech done?
I’m sure such event will be sold out with in moments and also a great way for the community to meet up and talk.

What country invented the Jaffa cakes? I just can’t remember myself, I know in Finland we have Jaffa pop (pop=Michiganian slang for soda – I have been well trained) and I’m sure Stargate fans get a kick out of Jaffa cakes and pop

E3: MGS on 360 WTF!! = FAIL
the colour scheme of that cafe is truly nasty though, HOPE Sony can pull something out of the magic hat and not let M$ steal all our goodies AGAIN! it’s teh GTA all over *goes fetal*
@ E-ROLE – a variant on the threerooms event would be good, and free beer and Jaffa Cakes to all old TS members too
mind you, i do think the quarantine zone and razorwire covered windows was a bit much, you’d think they didn’t trust us.

I Believe the general consensus within this blog is that a competition be held by the EU Blog team for a grand prixze of Jaffa Cakes..
do it…you know you want to…

Nice touch with the Jaffa Cakes, I remember reading Jeff’s request for them when they announced the EU Blog launch!
Looking forward to tonight’s E3 Sony Press Conference, watched the MS one last night and wasn’t all that impressed if I’m honest – they were doing their best to hype the announcements through the roof but it all seemed a little forced to me… Forza = GT5 wannabe; Alan Wake = Alone in the Dark/Silent Hill Clone (and graphically inferior to the original E3 2005 target trailer); MGS:Rising = MGS4 is only possible on PS3 afterall; Project Natal = glorified PS Eye (although let’s see if they can turn their tech demos into reality, which is something Sony have failed to do so far with the Eye)! They seemed a little light on new exclusives too, and most of the ones they did announce were 2010 releases, they still love buying timed-exclusive DLC though! Nothing shown was unexpected and there was no FFXIII level surprise.
Plenty of room left for Sony to steal the show if they play their cards right!

Care to tell us what a Jaffa cake is for those living in the southern hemisphere? (I don’t even think it’s part of the planet with the amount of stuff we get here!)
46
Posted on 2 June, 2009 at 12:31 pm by RagingWhisky
@GTR34
[JohnSketch]
Its basically a spongey base with jame in the middle and chocolate on the top – for many years there was debate as to whether it was a biscuit or a cake and it came down to the following:
A Biscuit is hard at first and over time goes soft
A Cake is soft at first and over time goes hard
The Jaffa is the latter

That picture of Jeff with those Jaffa Cakes made my day! Or, at least, it will until the Press Conference!
A gift from Europe for dealing with all of our moaning on the U.S. blog for all this time!
Can’t wait until this evening!
