Hello again, I hope you’ve all had a good week! This week sees an incredible array of content on the store, from a brand new PSN full game, to a couple of ‘old-school’ classics, our new music application VidZone, additional map packs for two great FPS titles; Call of Duty: World at War and Killzone 2, and much more. Burnout Paradise has also had a recent extension into Big Surf Island, so all Paradise City racers should get themselves ready for more mayhem.
Following on from the announcement of The Last Guardian, fans of the two previous Team Ico titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and of LittleBigPlanet, can now download some great new costumes for their Sackboy to celebrate their love of these games.
I know I said this last week too, but I think we’ve had a great start to June on the PlayStation Store and I just wanted to reiterate the point, that there’s much more great new content to come.
Have a good week all and, as usual, let us know what you think

Hey Mike, whats up with VidZone? Is the same thing going to happen with Home where we can’t use it unless we are lucky. Looks good though, good to hear they included Call on Me

I think there’s too much traffic perhaps – can you all get off it please, I’m trying to listen to music here, so selfish

You should put in the countries that Vidzone is available in. Seeing it with the EU flag gives the impression that it’s for everyone, but sadly it isn’t.

I hate the “are there trophies for this game” question. Have you been living in a hole? All new release games since around january of this year have trophy support. This question is dated and quite irratating to read

@49: Would probably help if it hadn’t been out on XBox 360 for quite some time, too.

Why is there no VidZone in Austria and other smaller countries in Europe? Could you please comment on that, and tell us when you gonna release VidZone for those countries?
We got a lot of disappointed Users on our Website, that would appreciate if you could give us a reason. THX
Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 4:50 pm by Mike Kebby
The VidZone team have previously stated the reasons behind which countries have got the application, you could aslo direct your questions to the VidZone update that was posted on the blog too.

If I get a fatal error does it mean VidZone has died and will never work? Seems that way heh. Guess i’ll play Overlord 2 instead.

mike, ive been an avid fan of sonys since day one of the psx. to this day i still am and have more fun out of my ps3 then i ever have with the last two generations but i must admit im getting a bit frustrated with this constant playing catchup to the us psn. for instance tonight there going to recieve bomberman and we dont have any idea when its going to hit here. also the patches for blast factor and the last guy, dont u guys read the forums, theres a 12 page long post about blast factor and its missing patch from a lot of very angry people and when someone asks the question where is it on this blog all they ever get is we will find out. well its been over a week or so and we still dont know! sony are shooting themselves in the foot, they just dont seem to let people know the answers to there questions! anyway on a positive note a good update today except missing bomberman, in closing please give us a answer bout the patches before we all tear whats left of our hair out! cheers
Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:05 pm by Mike Kebby
I certainly appreciate the comments we get (and I do pop into the forums from time to time to have a read) and I just want to explain something – 3rd party publishers have to submit their games to all the regions they want it released in, as this is not done globally if there is a delay in content between the US and EU stores for example, this will be because the submissions were made at differing times. It’s unfortunate, and delays on releasing content frustrates me too, believe me we are trying to our best to ensure universal release dates where possible, but it’s not often down to us directly (though it’s not always going to be possible).
As for patches, I don’t work with them directly, but I have passed the queries on – I won’t apologise on behalf of those who can respond, as I’ve done what I can and as soon as someone gives me information I will share it with you all.

Hopefully Vidzone will have sorted itself out by the time I get home from work, looking forward to giving it a go.
Lots of goodness on the store today, don’t know which to get first. I think I’ve got a trip to Surf Island on the horizon…

Not a bad update, the LBP costumes seem a little pricey though – it’s beyond me why little novelty things like Sackboy costumes aren’t the same price of an mp3 single, i.e. around 79p. Do they actually sell well at that price? I can understand sticker packs and level create content being a couple of quid, but not tiny little virtual outfits! Entire character models are only 79p in games like High Velocity Bowling!
I might dust off Burnout Paradise and get the Island, not been interested in the car packs, but the Island seems like a decent expansion to the game.
I do agree that it would be really good to have the file sizes included in your post though (I never understand why it doesn’t tell you this at checkout, but having them on the blog would be a good work around).
Also, what are you paid? I think you should ask for a pay raise/danager money now people know your name – it must be a hard job trying to keep so many people from so many Countries happy each week!!!
Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:09 pm by Mike Kebby
The hazards of people now having a person’s name who can be held accountable for the store, I must admit that is indeed something that scares me
I like the sound of ‘danger money’ though

Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 4:59 pm by Shnag
Hey Mike
Would it be possible to show file sizes on the blog especially for PSP downloadable games? I know the US blog does it, and it would be really useful to me.
Good update

Hey any news about the Blast Factor or The Last Guy trophy patches?
It’s almost ridiculous how there is literelly no information to be found anywhere about this.
At least outright say: No, you’re not getting it!
But this is just annoying.

Also, why are the downloads so slow..
The BP 1.9 patch (of 413 MB) will take 400 Minutes (estimated).
My connection is bad.. but not THAT bad.

Another nice update! Keep it coming!
I really must look in to getting Rock Band – RB DLC is so much better than GHWT, and I’m here stuck with Guitar Hero – for which I don’t think I’ve ever bought a single track, not because I don’t want to, but that there’s nothing that really takes my fancy! Not to mention that the RB tracks are cheaper, too.

Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:12 pm by dnadns
Hi Mike,
thanks for the clarification in your response to #67.
But then we may ask, why we are not allowed to purchase content from other stores due to the country limitation on credit cards.
Is it just that each region wants to push their own sales numbers or is there a bigger point behind this?
Technically there is no reason to limit this as it worked not long ago. As far as I am concerned, it is the right of any customer to purchase something whereever he/she wants, so I can’t really see the reason behind the fact of the current policy on the stores.
Would be really great if you can provide us with some more info here and maybe a suggestion what we should do about it.
Just sitting it out with a strong probability that it won’t change any soon would not really be a good way to handle this.
Thanks!

So does ICO pack change LBP from 7+ to 16+?

Why is tokobot still 2 pounds over the advertised price on here from last week?
why are we paying in effect 4 pound more for galactrix than the US (before tax) despite having to wait so so SOOOOOOOOO long for it compared to them. We should have got it cheaper due to scee taking so long ‘localising’ everything.
Why are we being over charged on texas cheat em (from a few weeks back) its £10 here and $10 in the us.
why are we always being treated wrse than the us on almost all accounts almost all the time?
what happened to the global localisation that sony touted last year to start in january gone as i can see no sign of that being in effect?
mind answering any of these questions? (i fight for the customer as you can guess) my complaints from last week still stand as well.
Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:23 pm by Mike Kebby
Hi Shogun,
Pricing for 3rd party content is not determined by us, so I cannot comment on their prices, I do appreciate your concerns though and will raise them to the appropriate people I assure you.

Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:16 pm by Mazyx
@post 80
Especially considering that we in Germany get maybe 50% of the content the rest of Europe gets and Sony doesn’t think it’s necessary to change anything about that.
It’s just sad.

@Mike: And that’s all well and good, but the problem from the perspective of gamers is that somehow Microsoft manage to get round all those problems – the vast majority of their content is available across all regions simultaneously, and it’s clearly not a case of them waiting until everything’s ready on the publisher’s end, because when a game hits XBLA and PSN it normally reaches the XBox 360 first.
All being equal, I’d rather pick up the games on PS3, but when it’s cheaper, earlier and better supported to go with the competition that’s a hard decision to make, don’t you agree?
Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:26 pm by Mike Kebby
I understand your points completely (I am a massive gaming fan myself) but I can’t really comment any further. I will say that we are always trying to find new solutions to problems our consumers raise with us.

I agree with the guys about the file sizes for downloads. They’re already shown on the US store and the blog. It would be really useful to know how much space you need on your hard drive or memory card before you download something. Is there any chance that these are going to be shown here or on the store in future?

Hi Mike,
Do you know, or could you find out if the new Burnout Paradise DLC can be purchased in the European store, but will run with the US edition of the game. I got my game last year while working in the states, and this is the first paid DLC I’ve been interested in.
As some of the paid content is restricted to specific regions of disk, I’d not be best pleased if I shelled out 9.99 for something that won’t work.
Keep up the great work on the blog!
Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:34 pm by Mike Kebby
Hey Marttami – Generally speaking DLC only works on a disc bought from that region, so I’m tempted to say no it wouldn’t work – I could be wrong though (it happens to the best of us) so I’ll try and find out for sure

Btw was sony leing about the globallocalisation process? they touted it around march last year.
Posted on 11 June, 2009 at 5:31 pm by Mike Kebby
Don’t worry Shogun I’m prepared for it
I’ve seen you around the forums too, and it’s not a nuisance to know there are people out there who are passionate about our brand, and just want everything on time
I have no information regarding a global process I’m afraid, sorry…

Looking forward to rediscover FFVII on my PSP, and … nothing. A “bug” with accents in the French version (although I’d prefer playing the English game but PS Store won’t let me), I’ve read. German has accents, Spanish has…and *they* get the game, but not us?
Could we get more information? I don’t understand…
Or you could sell us the UK version, I don’t care, I’d just like to play this great game again.

@iapetus (Scary Euro Man?)
Exactly.
I didn’t want to mention the competition because I don’t know how it’s handled on this Blog, but I basically wanted to say what you said.
Even the German XBLA has almost none of the problems the German PSN has and is full of USK 18 content. I don’t know how they’re doing it, but it seems it is somehow possible, just not for Sony.

@darrenj1
I don’t think we will ever find out anything about the trophy patches. The Last Guy may come or may not, but the Blast Factor patch was probably lost somewhere in the tubes of the internet.
I just come here everytime to ask about them because it’s kind of funny.
It was said 3 weeks ago that they will pass on our questions about the patches, but if it takes 3+ weeks to get answers about that, I doubt that we will ever see the actual patches.
And those games are even directly published by SCEE! If this blog is supposed to be our connection to SCEE, our way to get information, wouldn’t you say this blog pretty much fails?
