Mike
Not to want to sound so demanding.
But when can we expect to see other territories stores on a par with the American store?
We always seem to be behind, why is it that we can play import titles from any other country, yet digital distribution is lagging behind in all other territories bar the US?
And when are we getting the movie store? Why are non-US territories treated like lepers while the US is treated like a king?
Surely an answer wouldn’t kill you? I’ve noticed you’ve taken the time to submit humorous replies to others.
Posted on 18 June, 2009 at 1:22 pm by Mike Kebby
Hi Sasukekun – It’s not that I don’t want to reply to you, I’m just not able to give you the answers you want to hear I’m sure.
The submission process for all stores is separate, therefore there will be differences in release dates, as each region has it’s own QA process. There are many additional things that need to be checked for content appearing in the EU which is why content does seem to be delayed in appearing on the US store and then coming to the EU. This has been improving since we first launched the store, but I appreciate that as consumers you don’t want to know the reason why, you just want to see the content on the store. I’m sure we wil keep seeing such discrepancies reduce, but until that happens, please keep giving me your feedback
As for the movie store, once I have some answers I will let you know, but I don’t have any news at the moment I’m afraid.

Now, what was it we were told a month ago?
“The Ghostbusters demo will be out right after E3 ends”, or something to that effect. So, um… well… Where is it?
PSN updates are getting worse by the month. I just hope we’re not going to be given demos for Assassin’s Creed 2 and Uncharted 2, weeks after they’re released. Because I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THEM.
Don’t make me go back to Xbox Live!

I feel sorry for you Mike.
Having to put up with all these comments.
The update does kinda suck though
Posted on 18 June, 2009 at 1:26 pm by Mike Kebby
It goes with the job, and I was more than happy to be the one to stick his neck out on the blog so don’t feel sorry for me
To be serious though, there’s no harm in people leaving honest comments about the store, feedback is appreciated, especially when it’s constructive. The blog is a great tool for communication with you all, so when you want to say thanks, vent, or just ask questions, the comment box is there for you to do so.

@Mike you have my deepest sympathy.
I still remember the 28th Feb 2008 – that went down well on threespeech! lol
Just a polite word to my fellow blog users – I know it’s a (small) chore, but do Mike a favour and read some of his other comments so he’s doesn’t have to repeat the same thing over & over.
Also, I appreciate English isn’t everyone’s first language, but I would imagine you are more likely to get a response to your question if you ask things in a polite & respectful way.
I am not particularly defending SCEE or anything like that, just hoping for a bit of perspective from people so it doesn’t turn into a slanging match (which wouldn’t help anyone in the long run) – remember we are trying to ‘build’ on our relationship with SCEE and third party devs.
Cheers

Yup, a pretty thin week this one. Since Battlefield 1943 is going to be released this month and we still haven´t seen it, would it be safe to say that we can download it next Thursday (since it´s the last Thursday this month)?
Also, will the last guy DLC be released in Europe??
162
Posted on 18 June, 2009 at 1:22 pm by RadioactiveMouse
Would it be possible to have a time frame for PSN games to come out from the EU Blog? As most people read dates announced for America and assume we will get the same.
For example :
Fat Princess – In the last 2 weeks of June
Battlefield 1943 – Last week of June early July
Or a similar thing to what TedTheDog does with Home.
Posted on 18 June, 2009 at 1:29 pm by Mike Kebby
Let me see what I can do about that, it’s a more than reasonable request.
163
Posted on 18 June, 2009 at 1:24 pm by rossthebassist
@shazza49, no one wants it to be wii or 360. we want to be equal to playstation worldwide.

About the trophies of blast factor, i talked to the company back in december, and thet said they were gonna release the patch for europe soon, but then, 7 months after the patch still isn’t there, i’d say something is wrong.

When your PS3 dies for no reason (I followed the Manuals recommendations), after only 2 years. You don’t expect to have to pay £145 more!

Posted on 18 June, 2009 at 1:28 pm by geddesmond2
Man I can’t believe all this crap. It’s been nearly 6 month’s since the blast factor trophy patch was released in America and SCEE are still telling us it’s coming.
We’ve been hearing that for month’s now and even someone recieved an email off Sony telling them it will release in 2 week’s. Well that email was sent 6 week’s ago and there is still no patch and as someone stated this patch doesn’t only add trophies, but it add’s dual shock support and custom music.
Look it’s like this, the longer SCEE leave this patch unreleased means the longer I don’t purchase a PSN game. I mean why the hell should I when this is how they repay you.

@ Mike
Thanks for your reply.
I don’t like to seem ungrateful, and yes like my job I like to see things happen rather than hear excuses, that’s true of anyone I’d guess.
But when it’s a persistent query a small note to say why things are as they are wouldn’t go amiss.
It does seem that other territories do get treated unfairly compared to the US, and as you say, I hope that this will eventually be rectified and all stores eventually brought into line.
Just gutting really as I stated earlier, I move house next thursday, am without internet connection from Monday and will not see the PSN again for 4 weeks. This would have been a great chance to get some money off of me to keep me entertained until I get my broadband back.

Mike it seems like you’re trying to avoid the LBP druid question
is it because you are trying to get answers or what?
Sorry to keep bugging you with this it’s just that like someone said it was confirmed for today but isn’t on your list of updates :/

Sorry, I meant to respond to everybody asking about this – I think this should be coming next week for you all. Cheers

“The submission process for all stores is separate”
I’d say that’s the problem.
Or at least the problem is that SCEE and SCEA don’t seem to be able to communicate with each other and sync their releases, like they should.

Good Update! When can we expect the Sony E3 press conference to be released on the store? The US has it already. Thanks

Hi Mike
Please can you answer the PSone games question for me? The main games I look forward to each week are PSone games as I have such a fondness for the system and want to play the games legally on my PSP. I can’t use American games on my PSP so even going that route means I can’t use them. But so many are rated by PEGI and have been for over 18 months so please can you get something sorted so we get at least one game per week? And a game that isn’t rubbish like Bass fishing?
I work in the industry myself as a developer in Cambridge so I can understand the QA process but surely it doesn’t take 18 months to QA old games?
Also it’s my Birthday tomorrow and I was hoping to spend some money on myself with good content. I have spent about £400 on the store since day one and love the games I have played but I would like more content more often.
Maybe you should have a release schedule for us to see? That way we won’t have days like today as we know to expect nothing. If a game slips from release date, tell us and then know not to expect but guessing each week is tedious at best. And to be honest I growing more and more tired of it.

Can I ask why the South African Store doesnt have Guitar Hero DLC on? We are usually exactly the same as the UK store, except when they get Guitar Hero DLC, it doesnt come onto our store. Id really appreciate it if you can find out the reason behind it and hopefully sort it out. Thanks!

What would make up for the lack of MGS1 and Fat Princess, in some way, would be releasing Tekken 3, Ridge Racer and WipEout 2097 on the store as a late update.

@mike, i have a question. just trying to understand a little bit more about the way things work.
Why are there different QA in different regions. shouldnt there be 1 QA, and 1 submission process? would that not eliminate the delays in the releases?

@rossthebassist:
It’s probably something to do with different power levels for different regions, different screen resolutions, different ratings schemes and the inherent racism we in the EU have to suffer under Sony’s hands.
OK, I made that last bit up.

TBH nothing definitive has been mentioned anywhere about Fat Princess, Bomberman or Metal Gear coming today so wasn’t really expecting them (though it would’ve been nice to have them)
Couple of questions though:
- do you know if there are any plans to “touch-up” the store so that, design-wise, it’s similar to the US one (ie at the bottom of each item it tells you what it is ie. demo, add-on etc)?
- any plans on releasing more hi-def blu-ray or film trailers onto the store else as that hasn’t been updated in ages?
Thanks

I was just wondering what your position in Sony is Mike.
It just says ‘PlayStation Store Team, SCEE’. Are you the head of something? What do you actually do? :p
P.s. Any news about Warhawk 2? Hehe..

@samii when your playstation 60gig from launch has never flackered, crashed or has any glimps of a yellow light (touch wood) you dont really pay attention to people problems. with the failure rate of ps3 being so low i do think that you have a point and you shouldn’t have had to pay for a replacement. BUT the failure rate is so low compared to a certain red lights issue that well sony never had to deal with the backlash microsoft had. i understand what your saying id be upset too. but still hate is such a harsh word.

First the Bad news:-
* PSP store is woeful. There are hardly any themes or demos or trailers. (I’m sure the PSP sells way more than the PS3).
* Still no Trophy patch for Blast Factor – there should be a facility where I can get my money back if a promised service is not provided within a certain time.
* Frustration at lack of MGS1 or Resident Evil PS1 games that other regions have (would help to boost the lack of content for PSP users).
Now the Good news:-
* I heard there is new HOME content today.
* Love to get new trailers. Always a good way to promote what we already have and what is to come!
* Having a great time with Vidzone. It is still up and running and having a blast creating playlists and finding sooo many videos.
* Already have so many PSN and PS3 games I bought still to play through and complete. Haven’t even had time to get Burnout Paradise Surf Island yet!
And remember: you can’t please all the people, all of the time. That’s life.

Mike, I think you should resurrect ThreeSpeech for the Store Update posts. At least then it was a third-party blog so no one from Sony was olbigated to respond to the hundreds of comments that flamed a poor update. Unfortunatley now, everyone knows your name and they’re all looking to you for answers. I hope you’re actually using an alias or that you get paid enough to put up with all this flack.
That February 28th update, didn’t happen to be a trailer and a video diary by any chance??
Honestly, I’m not surprised of this mediocre update, after all E3 was only last week and many of you are probably still recovering. That added with the 2 (or was it 3? – poor memory) day update from last week, content is bound to be a bit thin.
I have to admit though that I’m a bit dissappointed to see that there’s still no Ghostbusters demo, but it’ll be out tomorrow I suppose. Hopefully my cousin’s pre-ordered it so I can have a spin on his, as the missus made me cancel my pre-order so she could get it for my birthday, which is not for another 2 weeks… Sigh!
Thanks for the updae, Mike.

I just want to say that I’m 1 of the ppl which isn’t actually too fussed about the smallish update, i mean come on guys. E3 was great, and I don’t know about you, but i already have plenty of great games to play through right now.
After the stellar E3 period, we can take at least a little downtime.
