Hi and many thanks for all of your questions and great comments about the Overlord II demo. As promised in the original article, we’ve tried to provide answers to all of your questions below:
xKillerMonkeyx: In a few words how would you describe the game?
Overlord II is, I think, best described as an action fantasy adventure, with a pafutrticular slant on being evil. The action is based around the horde gameplay afforded by the incredibly violent, mischievous and ultimately funny Minions under your direct control. In regards to being the evil one, as the Overlord you are a despotic megalomaniac who explores the world, dominating or destroying everything in your path with the help of your four Minion types; Browns (melee fighters), Greens (stealth assassins), Reds (pyromaniacs) and Blues (zen-like healing minions). There is a rich story to the whole Overlord series as well which was written by renowned games writer, Rhianna Pratchett.
Ultimately, Overlord II is one of the very few games that allows us to become the despotic megalomaniac that hides within each of us. Did I mention that you can also acquire a total of three mistresses as you progress through the game?
Grind_Axis: Here’s a question for you: Will this game be supported by additional downloadable content?
I think downloadable single player content fits this game just fine. Downloadable content is an important part of Codemasters’ strategy, and we will be looking into this at great length in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for future announcements.
herepoler: Will we play the little overlord?
Yes absolutely! In the level prior to the released demo level, you play as “The Overlad”. This is when the Minions first find their new Overlord, as an evil pre-pubescent boy ready for Overlord training!
herepoler: Will the customization of the Tower be more better than in first Overlord?
Yes! There are more things to decorate your castle with, you have the minion burrows, you have 3 mistresses and many more things to collect
zelamy: Does the full game have multiplayer like the first one did?
Yes Overlord II does, but much better, faster, funnier and more evil than in the original. All of the multiplayer maps/game-modes are specifically tailored to work with Overlord’s Horde gameplay mechanic, with both PvP and Co-op being catered for, plus split-screen for those who want it.
zelamy: Oh and is there any chance of a female overlord at some point?
Interesting suggestion, we’ll pass this on to the dev team. At this point I can’t answer for sure either way, but you never know!
Aquarius_Sidhe: What I did find annoying was that apparently the minions seem to kill a target, and then just come back without taking life force with them. Is that something you’re going to fix?
Minions whilst very loyal, are not always the easiest creatures to train. In the heat of battle they can sometimes be distracted by shiny objects on the floor, picking them up instead. Just send another Minion to pick up that lifeforce and make sure you punish the forgetful Minion who didn’t pick it up in the first place, a swift kick normally does the trick!
evenings-empire: Will the graphics be any different for the final release and will the full game run any smoother?
Since the demo was produced and submitted to Sony, we’ve had at least a month in which we’ve been able to further optimise the game performance and apply general polish, ensuring that upon it’s full release you get the smoothest possible gaming experience. This has already been reflected in the many positive reviews that have gone live since.
Let me know in the Comments below if there’s anything else you’d like to ask about Overlord II and I’ll do my best to help you out. Don’t forget that the demo is on the PlayStation Store and the full game is now on sale.
Thanks,
Ian

I’m a bit worried about IGN’s negative review. I like the first game (I’m playing it currently). IGN always aims to high for my taste, and now they give Overlord II a 6.0! Any game I bought that IGN rated 7 or lower was terrible :S
Could you respond on a few of the issues they state?
IGN writes:
“Frustrating controls and tedious gameplay. The exciting exploration of the first game has been ditched”
“Nobody is playing online”
“rather then addressing the major issues in the first game….
….all of the faults of its predecessor and little of the intriguing adventuring that made it popular in the first place.”
=====
When I played the demo myself, one of my minions got stuck on the ice.. I couldn’t call him back anymore, neither could I let him die, so I had to continue with one minion less..
IGN describes similar bugs of enemies running into walls etc..
=====
I’m sure this kind of messages call for a defense, but with my current knowledge about the game I wouldn’t buy it, and a lot of people care about IGN’s opinion. I’m curious about your stance..

Will there be more weapon vvarieties in this game over the original?
I have yet to see a trophy list but will there be multiplayer trophies? I am not a fan of them more like I am rubbish at them.
Finally did PETA give you any trouble yet.

I never played the first game, but I downloaded the demo of II and was pretty impressed with the graphics and humour of the characters, however I’m worried that it might get a little repetitive as a full game – in the demo it seemed to be a case of you send your minions out to beat up a creature, collect an orb, and send them out to the next creature.
What does the game offer in terms of gameplay variety that would keep you interested for the full game? I can see myself getting bored after a couple of hours of watching 15 minions beat up things over and over…
I’m sure there is more to it than that, but as I say I haven’t seen or heard anything of this game outside of playing the demo!

@Ian Webster – Community Manager, Codemasters
CAN YOU KINDLY pass THESE suggestions FOR the dev team:
1-ADD IN GAME COSTUME SOUNDTRACK FOR THE GAME VIE AN UPDATE.
2-ADD HOME GAME LAUNCHING AND REWARDS FOR THE GAME.

@ollybobs27: Considering Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new Fallout game (Fallout: New Vegas) I think Bethesda is hard at work with making TES V or another project besides Fallout.

I loved the original & this is winging its way to me now
With regards to the DLC will it be like the raising hell DLC from the original overlord &/or will there be more missions/side quests staring Overlad?

I let my friend play the demo as he’s more into this kind of game than me, but what I saw looked pretty good, aside from the obvious glaring issues of enemies/minions getting stuck in/on things. I hope those have been resolved in the actual game.

I have stopped buying games published by CodeMasters.
Until they start supporting titles they’ve already released and not just move onto another project I wont be changing my mind.
They are possibly the worst company for abandoning existing customers.
Grid, anyone?

I’m downloading the demo now… I relish every opportunity to be evil
onto some questions though;
1. How long is the single player campaign?
2. Are there any interesting trophies in the game to encourage unorthodox playing styles or will they all be unlocked gradually through progression of the game?
3. Is there any chance of Codemasters ever making a Micro Machines V3 remake (or better yet, an all new title that works over the PSN… With the return of playing for keeps so I can steal all my friends hard earned mini-motors!)?
Cheers! (and sorry for the off topic last question!)
