Hey everybody,
My name is Natalia and I’m from Boolat Games, a game development company based in East Ukraine and the first East European developer of PSN games.
I’m incredibly excited to tell you some great news: the breathtaking adventure of brave explorer Raph and his friends is about to begin in a new arcade platformer game called topatoi.
The first part of the saga, “topatoi: The Great Tree Story”, is making its way into PlayStation Network tomorrow so you can enjoy it from this week. Yay!
topatoi is an arcade platformer where you have to control a gyroscopic vehicle that looks like whirligig. The unusual multidimensional abilities of this device will help you overcome puzzles and platforms in original and inventive ways. In contrast to 2D platformers, topatoi gives you a freedom of a full 3D world. Puzzle, platformer and arcade fans will be gladdened by the mixture of unforgettable adventures across the mysterious Great Tree and variety of arcade bonus levels.
Your journey begins in an unexplored and mysterious corner of a far-flung world, where Raph’s airship has crash-landed. During your travelling you’ll meet the mysterious world’s inhabitants, fight enemies and help Raph to find spare parts to fix his airship and save his girlfriend.
It doesn’t matter how many games you’ve played before, you will find a lot of fun with “topatoi”.
Currently, split-screen multiplayer mode is available, so you can enjoy the game with your friends. Further updates will also bring various multiplayer modes – I’ll be back with more information on these updates – and you can find out more about the game at the official site and PS Store as well.
Thanks,
Natalia

can we have a trailer at least?

First of all thank you for your comment!
Sorry, but a gameplay video is not finished yet and will be available a bit later.

I’d prefer a demo / trailer before even considering a purchase.
Also, “Currently, split-screen multiplayer mode is available, so you can enjoy the game with your friends. Further updates will also bring various multiplayer modes”
Are those updates going to be payable or free DLC?

Oh, I see you have a trailer up on your developer website / Youtube. That trailer is 6 months old though. What happened?
Posted on 2 July, 2009 at 2:16 pm by Natalia Boolat
Hey wbrinkman,
. You’ll be able to look at gameplay video preview at PS Store soon.
You are right you can only find an old video teaser on Youtube. The game looks better that six months ago
There will be various updates for topatoi. Some of them will be free some are payable. I’ll keep you informed about every available update for topatoi.

It’s nice to have some East European PSN developers. Most games come from similar countries, so this should give us more variety.
The game looks interesting, although i would like to try a demo first.

Looks like a solid game that deserves a plce on the PSN!
Although i’m not trying to tell you how to run the PlayStation Store (although a Demo section = must), i think every game like this NEEDS a demo version, you would get a lot more sales, due to people being able to try the game out first!

“Maybe next week”

@ L337LUKE
Lol.
I do think they need better organiseation of the Store though, its too hard to find what you want, even a demo you have to scroll through a load of stuff and it’s just too much hasstle.
The US Store has it sorted though and it can’t be hard to put in a Demo section and it would not need much language translation from what i think, only the text that appears on the left. I rememebr e-mailing SCEE about this ages ago, and was told it would “take time”

@BiosNova, The US store has a perfect store and their information board even looks better maybe taking a leaf out of their book would be a good idea ^ ^,

I love platformers and I might get this.
What price will it be and will it have any trophies?
Posted on 2 July, 2009 at 3:50 pm by Natalia Boolat
Hi Lucreto,
Yep, topatoi has trophies! So try to get them all and good luck with it!

Please i beg for a trial demo before buy please. Dont go back to stoneage. I know or heard that sony charges companies for putting demos on store and thats crap and maybe why we dont have many on it??? Every game on x360 have a demo to be downloaded and all arcades as well.

Sorry for double post. The game looks great so demo would indeed improve sales for those unsure.

Looks interesting, it’s always nice to see small developers develop new and original games for PSN, and congrats for being the first East European developer to do so!
A demo would be nice to help my purchase decision, but I assume it will have a trailer at least (for those that haven’t noticed a lot of games have a trailer/screenshot option when you go to the buy screen – it’s under the Add to Cart button)
Out of interest what does ‘topatoi’ mean, is it a Ukrainean for something or just made up? And when you say “The Great Tree Story is the first in the saga” does that mean this is an episodic game?
Posted on 2 July, 2009 at 4:16 pm by Natalia Boolat
Hi Apnomis,
Thanks for your feedback!
In the process of completing storyline levels you’ll unlock bonus arcade levels. Some of them are split-screen multiplayer.
In this release you will find the first part of the story and a pack of bonus levels.
PS: In secret “topatoi” is stylized “top a toy”

I remember seeing a very (Read, *VERY*) strange video for this game a while back (Involved a guy, and a kettle…..)
Anyways, just want to say that this game looks very interesting and will definitely be picking it up come tomorrow (Along with the Punisher: No Mercy, and hopefully Speed Weekend dlc for MS:PR). I like to show my support to small development teams, especially thoses who I hav’nt heard of before. Your game looks to be very original and I am liking the look of it. I do have a couple questions to ask though;
1) Price in £ & €
2) Size of download
3) No. of episodes for this game

“In contrast to 2D platformers, topatoi gives you a freedom of a full 3D world.”
This doesn’t give me the greatest confidence. It’s as though you think that there has never been a 3D platformer before. Honestly if the extra dimension is the main selling point I’m worried.
It will require a demo or some hella good reviews before I buy this one. Not ruling it out though as I do love some platforming (especially 3D ones…)

Any idea how much it’ll cost? Looks like fun. I’m a real PSN game whore, so new fun games are always welcome to me

Seems like it could be an interesting little platformer, but I think I’ll need a demo or a very cheap price before I pick it up.

I can never resist a nice looking platformer, probly give it a whirl,be handy to have a demo though.

Sorry but it looks pretty generic, and that trailer was just terrible
If i’m going to even consider buying this it’s either going to need a demo or some really positive reviews

Well another game will be out & which may be good – BUT!
Why dont you just release TRINE or Fat Princess??? According to informations from developers, games are finished and way more people are waiting for this, if you release JUST this game in todays patch, it will be like previous patch, everyone will just wait for TRINE/Fat Princess and then ZUMA will appear… it really sux you know? Because much better games are finished and will be sold much better than this.
Look at the TRINE and look at the TOPATOI – which one you like more? Both are 3D, both are platformers, both have multiplayer – but TRINE? Amazing graphics, Physics affecting whole world, Really unique gameplay etc. etc. etc…
And i dont have to write about Fat Princess at all, everyone knows whats going on.
My point is that i would like to see really COOL games which are also finished instead of NOT-THAT-COOL games which you are trying to sell (like ZUMA). Because waiting whole week for another PSN update and then getting something like ZUMA, instead of TRINE (which was finished week before the update with ZUMA) is really bad.
GIVE US BETTER GAMES PLEASE!

Hi Natalia,
Looks like a good game. I love platformers and there aren’t many good ones on PS3 yet. Will defo check this out. I would also appreciate a demo like many people here. Just so I know if the game plays as good as it looks!

Looks alright. I’d really appreciate a demo or a lengthy trailer for this before I’d even consider putting any money down on it though.
I love platform games, but I’m not jumping in feet first (especially if the price is high) not knowing what to expect.

I would personally prefer a demo if possible, I get the feeling i’ve been stung on a few PSN titles because they looked so good on video but no so good on practise.
I applaud the work being done on the PSN but a few more demos of the PSN titles would be nice.
(personally waiting on Bomberman for the UK)
