Hello VidZone fans!
First of all, I think it is only right and respectful to pay our respects to the King of Pop, ‘the idol’ and without doubt the coolest man on the planet…Michael Jackson. Without him, pop music would not be what it is today. May he rest in peace.
It has been a little while since my last post as we have been extremely busy taking all your suggestions on board whether they have been tweeted, blogged, emailed or shouted from the nearest rooftop (VidZone does not suggest you climb any rooftop for your own safety and to be honest the other three methods work really well)! I’ll be back with more regular updates so feel free to check it out!
I hope you have liked the homepage and playlist updates. So far we have had sexyvids and indiekids, stadium rock and the King of Pop, cult flicks to Festival kicks, and that’s just to name a few! We always like to hear your thoughts on what we should be featuring (to be honest… it makes our lives easier if you do!).
So you’re probably asking yourself where will we be going next in our amazing adventure into the wonderful world of music video?!…Well, let me tell you…
New Featured Playlists
BBQ Music
Well… it would be rude not to wouldn’t it? BBQ season is well and truly upon us and what better way to accompany the sound of sizzling sausages and the inevitable scream of the lost burger or wasp attack than some super summery titles. Videos from The Beach Boys, Jazzy Jeff, Groove Armada, LL Cool J and a ton more.
90’s
Let’s face it. The 90’s is the new 80’s. Check out the Shell suits and videos from Ace of Base, Take That, Whitney, The Lighthouse Family and more.
Metal Anthems
You have all been screaming (sometimes literally!) for metal so we thought we would oblige. System of a Down, Godsmack, Marilyn Manson and Bullet for my Valentine feature among others.
Dizzee Rascal
You saw the interview, now delve into Dizzee’s head further the first ever VidZone Celebrity Playlist. Dizzee has exclusively chosen a selection of his all time favourite music videos. More acts coming soon.
Hot New Videos
Bored of old videos? Want fresh new videos from all your favourite artists? Thought so! This does exactly what it says in the title with videos from Chaka Khan, Freemasons, Grizzly Bear, Maximo Park and much much more!
As well as all these new playlists we have uploaded over 500 more videos, all of which will be available for your viewing pleasure when today’s update goes live this afternoon. These vary from country to country so we can’t give you the full lists but rest assured you will find more of the same great selection you’ve come to know and love!
Just a reminder that we LOVE to tweet with our users so if you fancy having your say or just chatting with the friendly VidZone team go to www.twitter.com/VidZone and start following us today!

Thanks for the Update!
How about “all Videos for all Users”?
In the UK Warren G Video is available in Germany not, why?
And whats that thing with this yellow Triangles, all Videos from Eric Prydz are not playable,WHY?

By the way is there a list of all labels that are currently available in VidZone? How about Roadrunner Records? Would be great for the Austrian version of VidZone

what it needs, its faster loading times on boot up, i understand that everything is available from then on, but seriously its a streaming service… it could be alot faster. Secondly, when you search a video, it automatically puts it on “a” and takes ages to search for all the songs starting with “a” even when you don’t even want to search for a song starting with “a”. needs to be fixed…
Please dont think im being critical because its an amazing service and a great idea, love it.

Not to be rude or anything, but I think you’ve confused metal with nu-metal. Lamb of God is the only metal band in that list.
Check out http://www.metal-archives.com for a good idea of what is generally considered metal.
Again, I’m not trying to be rude, just giving some feedback.

@Ben. You have said that you plan on rolling out the service to the rest of Europe. Is South Africa also one of the regions you would try to launch VidZone in? Thanks

Would be much better if we could use the XMB keyboard, as it takes an age to type names with the current system.
Also, instead of having to search for exam “The Killers”, it would be better to only have to type “Killers”.
Love VidZone by the way, have used it for many many many hours already

Also:
Some bands (such as Muse) appear on the search but actually have no videos. Which seems a tad bit weird

Ben, for playlists how about having latest tracks from different genres? At the moment there’s a “future hits” playlist which I love, but why not have “future hip hop”; “future rock”; “future pop”; “future dance”? Or alternatively top 10s of different genres?
One thing’s for sure the playlists are the key to longevity of VidZone, as it doesn’t matter how many thousands of tracks you have, if it’s not easy for people to access new music, then they won’t bother with it. Yeh, OK there’s a search tool on offer but at the moment it’s fiddly and timely to use – incidentally it also interrupts my music when searching. I’ll put these things down to teething problems and I guess there are people working on fixes for them (hope so!)
Anyway keep up the great work on the playlists. Sexy Vids FTW !

So when did you say it was coming to New Zealand? The original announcement said it was being released in Australia and New Zealand first. Just like the the announcement of PlayTV, this announcement has turned out to be false.

Vidzone is pretty good but with two major issues.
The first is the codec. It slams my quota with something like 500mb for half an hour of music.
Teh second is the normalization. Some songs are really soft and some are really loud which means you can’t just leave it on in the background.

VidZone could really do with somewhere where you can get a list of all the newly added videos. You might have added some really cool stuff but I don’t have time to search every possible artist every week!

Here’s an idea.
Could we see itunes/Windows Media Player style music visualizers?
And I think it’s time we had some Chemical Brothers, BT, Lemon Jelly and singles from Royksopp’s first album Melody AM.

With this update can VidZone finally be started on SDTVs?
Would be very appreciated, given the weird fact that even Remote Play on a PSP doesn’t work if the PS3 is not hooked to an HDTV through HDMI…

Please get Vidzone working properly with the Blu-ray remote. Telling us to re-assign it manually each time we boot it up to channel 1 should just be a stopgap solution, I sincerely hope that you are not leaving it at that. The default channel for the remote is 7 and it works fine with all other media functions of the PS3 with this setup, Vidzone is the anomaly.

ok, to start with… I really like Vidzone, although theres still a few things that put me off loading it up.
the most annoying thing is that it doesn’t work with a keyboard, it makes searching for a band a long and fustrating ordeal. you cant even type a name in with your pad, just a stupid scroll begining on (a) everytime. if thats not bad enough, you click on a band name then realize that they have not got the song you want so you go back and what you entered is no longer there, your back to having to re-enter with that bloody scroll again. this could be sorted so easily. simply change how you enter words in to how you usually would, like how im doing it now…just click on the box and enter text like you would a message rather than having to scroll thru 600 letters to make a sentence up.. thats not to much to ask is it?
also, i feel there should be a way to upload homemade music videos. thats a lot more to ask i know, but maybe sometime in the future it will be possible. hmmm, outta text

Would b nice to have full screen as looking thru a letter box on a 42 inch screen is depressing and how about adding some more popular bands, theres no house of pain, no guns n roses, no aerosmith, 2 massive groups there n not 1 song between them only 2 limp bizkit songs, paul van dyk is listed but no songs and only 1 or 2 songs for other major artists, theres artists on there that no one seems to know who they r, while big artists r missing, come on Ben sort it out

Can we have an up to date roadrunner records video catalogue on vidzone please? most of the bands on there are awesome… oh, and Tool too. cheers

Posted on 17 July, 2009 at 11:54 am by MojoTheJester
oh yeah, and searching through songs is a long long ordeal. you should make it so it remembers where you were up to in the list when you go back so you don’t have to scroll all the way down to artist 437 of 560 or something stupid like that.
and the ability to search by most recently added would be excellent, so that way we can just see the new videos (as i already spent a whole day searching through for artists i want).
other than that, i love vidzone!
