Hi everyone,
My name is Olivier; I work for Nobilis, a publishing company which is based in Lyon, France. I’m a Product Manager and I’m here to tell you about an exciting new release for PlayStation Store: Trine. Trine is a fantasy action and platform game that combines 2D gameplay with 3D graphics. The game is balanced between action and puzzle solving sequences. Three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil and the player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle.
Because physics is at the core of the gameplay there is not just one solution for each puzzle, in fact you can even find a way the developers have never thought of! You can control one of the three characters of the game and switch at any time to solve the puzzles in a different manner. Each character as a unique ability so choose the one you think is best suited for the situation. The Wizard can create and move objects around to build a bridge or crush his enemies with a box. The Thief uses her bow to attack and her grappling hook to move quickly and avoid dangerous traps. The Warrior is better suited for close combat and tends to hit before he thinks! So you can play through the 16 levels of the game switching from character to character but you can also play with one or two friends in a cooperative mode. Play the whole adventure together and find new solutions by combining your characters’ powers.
How about asking the Wizard to create a box so the Thief can use it with her grappling hook? Or why don’t you make the Wizard levitate you, while you, The Warrior, destroy your enemies that were too high to reach in the first place? With 3 players, the range of options widens : ask the Thief to use her bow to fire at your enemies while the Warrior protects her with his shield and the Wizards creates boxes on top of the skeletons’ heads to crush them ! Possibilities are huge and this trailer will show you what sort of things you can do in Trine.
Coming Soon to the PlayStation Store. For sure…you’ll love it!
Update: Many of you have been asking about the price of Trine and in a few comments below I mentioned that it would be £19.99 / € 19.99 – please note that the price is actually expected to be £16.99 and €19.99. I’m sorry for any confusion caused.

I have been really looking forward to this game coming out on the PS3 ever since I saw the first trailer. Looks amazing
Is the co-op mode online too, or just local?

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 1:21 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hello adz2k7,
The co-op mode is only local but 3 players can play on the same machine at the same time. There are no split-screens so it’s very easy and fun to play in this mode !

Would love to know the price point for this game though, there were… uhm… ‘fluctuations’ in the price for the PC version.

Trine will be priced at 19.99€, 19.99$ and 19.99£ on the PlayStation Store.

Looks really good! what features will it support? (such as XMB music or XMB screenshots)
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 1:41 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi BiosNova,
Thanks for your comment,
Trine will not support the XMB music function however i’m confident that when you hear Trine’s music scores you won’t miss XMB that much

I’m really interested, but it’s a pity there is no online coop.

Posted on 9 July, 2009 at 4:24 pm by Ennkidu
It’s allready out on Steam if you have a PC- both full game and a demo . What is up with it not being released simultaneously? – so wierd…
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 1:36 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi Ennkidu,
Actually the PS3 delays are just a little longer because of extensive testing on this platform.

It really kind of reminds me of the old “Lost Vikings” games by Blizzard (back when they made decent games).
I’ll definitely consider this when it finally arrives.

Hello almighty-slayer,
Trine will be priced at 16,99 £ in the UK.

I played the PC demo, and I can confirm Trine’s magnificence. I decided to wait for the PS3 version, since I’m told it’s going to have a Platinum trophy. Is this true?
It’s not surprising if it’s true, since it looks like the levels are LONG! The level in the PC demo took me 45 minutes to complete, and I was left still wanting more! Other than the method of distribution, it seems like it’s been designed as a full-scale retail release. I’m really looking forward to getting this off the Store ASAP. I suppose Battlefield 1943 will have to tide me over until then!
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:05 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hello Heartsbane,
Thanks a lot for your comment on Trine, I’m really glad you enjoyed playing the demo.
As for your question, there is indeed a Platinum Trophy for this game

Looks like a lot of fun, something I probably wouldnt have considered buying before.

Yes it does have a platinum, i heard that too. It’s a full game, ala wipEout

Posted on 9 July, 2009 at 4:39 pm by Midnite_Blaze
Is there a storyline? Cut scenes or anything like that? Or do you just go from one level to the next? It looks cool game-play wise but I do hope that there is some kind of narrative.
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:12 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi Midnite_Blaze,
That’s a good question, yes there is an important narrative aspect to the game.
In fact, the narrator will intervene between the levels and the characters will talk to each other as well.

This game looks really good, it first caught my eye a few months ago. It’s definitely on my wanted list as long as the price is right (from the US pricing I’m guess £13.99 like Wipeout?) – would be nice to have a demo for that sort of price though.
I have a few questions:
1) Will the co-op element include online co-op or is it offline only?
2) Given this is a full-retail release for PC, and is more expensive than your average PSN game, will the trophies include a Platinum like Wipeout HD and Warhawk?
3) What exactly does ‘Coming Soon’ mean?
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:17 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi Apnomis,
I’m here to answer to your questions :
1) The co-op mode will be local, so you can play with 2 other friends on the same PlayStation 3 system.
2) Here are the prices of Trine in Europe : 19.99€ and 16.99£.
3) The release date is scheduled for the end of July !
I hope you enjoy the game

I love the Soundtrack!

Posted on 9 July, 2009 at 5:22 pm by qwertyuiopasdfgh
Is the co-op online, offline or both?
Can you mix the two, like play with a friend sitting beside you and another friend who is online at the same time?
Of course we’d also love to know the price and relese date if you can already share those details.
Oh and bring more 2D games!!! I love old-school platformers.
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:19 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi qwertyuiopasdfgh,
I’m trying to respond to as many people as possible but some answers will be redundant I’m afraid. Anyway, here is what you wanted to know :
1) The co-op mode will be local, so you can play with 2 other friends on the same PlayStation 3 system.
2) Here are the prices of Trine in Europe : 19.99€ and 16.99£.
3) The release date is scheduled for the end of July !

The game seems really nice. I just wish it was coming out for 360 instead as I’d much rather play the game with that controller (was very nice on PC). I guess I may get it for PC instead, but PS3 owners are still in for a treat with this one.

Hi Glancelot !
There won’t be any demo of Trine on the PlayStation Store.
I hope you’ll enjoy Trine !

Posted on 9 July, 2009 at 10:44 pm by Xiyng
A demo? I liked the PC demo but it left me wondering how things are going to work out without a mouse – and that trailer had pretty fast cursor movement, too, so I’m not sure if it’s from the PS3 version.
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:31 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi Hiying,
Do not worry, Trine is played very nicely with the PS3 Controller and you can do all the actions just as easily as with a keyboard and a mouse !
