Hi everyone,
My name is Olivier; I work for Nobilis, a publishing company which is based in Lyon, France. I’m a Product Manager and I’m here to tell you about an exciting new release for PlayStation Store: Trine. Trine is a fantasy action and platform game that combines 2D gameplay with 3D graphics. The game is balanced between action and puzzle solving sequences. Three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil and the player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle.
Because physics is at the core of the gameplay there is not just one solution for each puzzle, in fact you can even find a way the developers have never thought of! You can control one of the three characters of the game and switch at any time to solve the puzzles in a different manner. Each character as a unique ability so choose the one you think is best suited for the situation. The Wizard can create and move objects around to build a bridge or crush his enemies with a box. The Thief uses her bow to attack and her grappling hook to move quickly and avoid dangerous traps. The Warrior is better suited for close combat and tends to hit before he thinks! So you can play through the 16 levels of the game switching from character to character but you can also play with one or two friends in a cooperative mode. Play the whole adventure together and find new solutions by combining your characters’ powers.
How about asking the Wizard to create a box so the Thief can use it with her grappling hook? Or why don’t you make the Wizard levitate you, while you, The Warrior, destroy your enemies that were too high to reach in the first place? With 3 players, the range of options widens : ask the Thief to use her bow to fire at your enemies while the Warrior protects her with his shield and the Wizards creates boxes on top of the skeletons’ heads to crush them ! Possibilities are huge and this trailer will show you what sort of things you can do in Trine.
Coming Soon to the PlayStation Store. For sure…you’ll love it!
Update: Many of you have been asking about the price of Trine and in a few comments below I mentioned that it would be £19.99 / € 19.99 – please note that the price is actually expected to be £16.99 and €19.99. I’m sorry for any confusion caused.

Nice how this article got rearranged to sit on top of the psn update article ;]

Looks good apart from awful tearing, seriously needs v-sync and a demo, wont invest cash for video like that.

DEMO! DEMO! DEMO!

The pc demo was great, so I’ll certainly be downloading this off psn as soon as possible.
There was a post left in the official games forum saying the game will have 32 trophies including platinum – http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1614&start=50 #p6728
So I guess the trophies will be roughly the same as the Steam Achievments – http://steamcommunity.com/stats/Trine/achievements/

I did say I need demo’s before I buy,but this is one of 3 games I’m happy to buy without one.

Cheers for the replies. Sad to hear no demo for psn though. There are far too many games hitting the PSN store without a demo, without decent gameplay trailers etc. So I’ll have to take a leap of faith or find some review online which often isn’t all that accurate/decent anyway. Too bad.

Come on guys, £19.99 does NOT equal $19.99 or 19.99 EUROS.
Why are us british folks getting shafted again?
59
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 1:57 pm by Suzzopher
£19.99 doesn’t equal $19.99. That is shocking. I shall have to buy a $20 PSN card for £16 instead.

Those prices are a total rip off tbh
and with it not supporting any of the PS3 features and with no demo….

I was really looking forward to this game, but if you’re thinking $19.99 = £19.99 you can forget about it.
Totally greedy ripoff. No sale.

You got to be ****** me!
This inflation of the prices has to stop SCEE. You are scaring away customers and you have NOTHING… NOTHING to show for it. Why the **** must we pay almost double price of the US PSN store, when we are getting less content, slow updates and some patches for games are totally missing.
I can accept the price is higher, at some level, but these amounts are just pure greed SCEE.

Is that price some kind of joke?
Why must we European players pay an EXTRA £7.50
YES, AN EXTRA £7.50!!!!!
over our US friends?
I was really looking forward to this game but now I am just going to forget that it even exists! I hope it fails miserably so that you stop ripping us EU gamers off time after time!
We are in a recession you know!!!
66
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:41 pm by CodeMonkey_UK
Almost double the price?!?
What a joke, i think you pretty much sealed this games fate in Europe.

$19.99 £19.99 and 19.99 euroes?
What the hell? That’s one hell of a rubbish exchange rate

Nice looking game and I would’ve bought it until I saw the pricing structure. $19.99 in the US and £19.99 in the UK? Thats hardly fair is it? No sale.
How about a response to the pricing on this? A lot of people seem to feel a bit ripped off, it’d be nice to hear how this decision came about..

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:49 pm by Midnite_Blaze
Are we going to get any official word as to why this title is so much more expensive for EU gamers? I would be interested to know the “logic” behind this greedy move…? Care to comment Oliver?
70
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:49 pm by Suzzopher
I would imagine the decision involved some monkeys and an abacus.
71
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:52 pm by CodeMonkey_UK
Seems strange the pricing wasn’t put in the original post doesn’t it?
I’m all for responding to questions from consumers but surely this information should be added to the original posts and not just buried away in comments?
72
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 2:52 pm by Midnite_Blaze
It’s even more shocking a situation when you consider that THIS TITLE WAS ACTUALLY DEVELOPED IN THE EU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a joke!

I can just imagine it…

There is NO WAY ON EARTH I would pay more money for a title than another country on PSN !
THats called – A RIP OFF !
How do you justify the UK having to pay at least £5 more for a game, then tell us gamers not to go and create an account from a different country.
Something isn’t quite right here SONY?!
75

TOTAL RIP OFF!

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 3:00 pm by C_Stewie
Pricing is a bit off I’m afraid. Won’t be buying it unless theres a bit more common sense and fairness put into the cost. No doubt it would have been fun. But not £20 worth of fun when others get it for cheaper.

Thanks for ripping off europe

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 3:04 pm by almighty-slayer
Like some guy said up there ^, buy a $20 PSN card off ebay for £16 and download it off the US store. You save yourself £4 for the exact same game.

Oliver is reading your comments and laughing while rolling in a bed of crisp US dollar notes.

£20? and without a demo? No chance, i’m not buying it.
81
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 3:13 pm by CodeMonkey_UK
That may very well be true. But Oliver has just [DELETED] off UK PS3 owners (thats nearly 10% of his potential consumer market) not to mention the rest of Europe!
That’s a pertty bad move. I hope for your sake Oliver it’s a mistake on your part!

Why did you moderate my previous comment? Since when was the words i used spelt with stars either offensive or abusive to deserve moderating?
Or perhaps it was a little too close to the truth for you to leave up there?
83
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 3:22 pm by gazzagb
Since when does $20 equal £20??? Bit pricey for a PSN game init? Will it have Online Co-op?
84
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 3:22 pm by almighty-slayer
Indeed t may just be a mistake and he got the wrong pricing, but it doesn’t seem liek it.

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 3:33 pm by TheSabreman
Agree with many posters straight dollar to pound price is offensive to EU.
Will leave it thanks it may be a great game but I dislike being treated like a non-valued customer and this just smacks of disrespect and greed.

A shame! I was looking forward to this game.
After the revelations that there will be no online, no support for any of the PS3 features (XMB Music, Photo Grab or Video Capture) and the outrageous price for the EU & UK, you can forget it.
For an additional £5 I can buy GT5 Pro and get unique replayablity and online features. Not to mention Warhawk which offers so much more and is actually cheaper.
Either something has been lost in translation or you frogs are taking the mick. Fancy another Agincourt do we?:(
I sincerely hope there has been a mistake in the pricing!
If you look at it logically, you can torrent the PC version for free, you can also torrent the 360 version for free (note these 2 platforms are the cheapest) but on the PS3 (which is secure) Trine is the most expensive. Make some money from the guaranteed PS3 fanbase by ensuring the price point is justified. So rather than recouping your losses on those platforms by overcharging PS3 users, suck it up and give us a good deal.
It pains me to say that people who don’t read the blog or forums will get suckered into this tiles and be royally ripped off.
Dammit, I’m hacked off!

Wow that’s expensive! I’ll not be getting this now.

“Each character as a unique ability so choose the one you think is best suited for the situation.”
The Wizard made the prices 19.99 across the world?

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 3:58 pm by BenX42316
A bit expensive for a PSN game isn’t it?
You can get a decent Bluray disc game in some shops for £20.
What has this game got that makes it work the extra money to buy?

Can I suggest a popular business book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie not to be confused with the comedy “How To Lose Friends And Alienate People”
It seems who decided on pricing has been following the more unsuccessful philosophy.
Number one rule in business the customer is always right, which roughly translated means make a fool of your customers and they will make a fool of you.

I think, at least I hope it’s a mistake. The UK price I heard about was £11.99. That’s a more realistic price.
If it turns out to be £20 then I’ll Entropay it off the USA store.
92
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 4:22 pm by commuterzombie
“$19.99, £19.99″?!?!
That’s a shame, I’ve been looking forwards to this platformer for ages, largely due to the co-op which looks excellent.
Unfortunately your insulting conversion rate has totally put me off the game. I won’t be buying it until the price drops. £13.99 – £15.99 seems like a much fairer price for a full (i.e. Wipeout HD, Siren: BC) PSN game.

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 4:27 pm by Cjdamon042
Hold up…
So the US pays £12, Europe pays £17, but the UK has to pay £20? Yeah, because that’s really fair…
I know pricing is generally different for each region and we all accept that, but going by the rule of $=€=£ is ridiculous. And on top of that, those wanting to try before they buy can’t? For something that costs that much, I’d expect there to be a demo.
I wasn’t going to buy this game anyway (tried the PC demo and it’s nice, but just not for me), but I imagine you’ll lose potential sales with prices like that.

I was really looking forward to this, a shame the pricing has driven me away.
Shape up guys, not only do we have to tolerate a sub-standard PS Store compared to the US, but we also get to pay more than they do for the privilege.
Chuck us a bone for god’s sake.

Hmm I notice Olivier Vermeille from Nobilis seems to have stopped responding to questions…
I was looking forward to this game since seeing the videos of it (as were some of my friends) – but why is there such a price difference? £19.99 ≠ $19.99 ≠ €19.99 (is not equal to). If I were to pick up a US PSN card it would cost me its face value at whatever exchange rate there is so what exactly is different that there has to be a price difference for the UK?
$19.99 = £12.49 (@ $1.6 to £1), $19.99 = €14.28 (@ $1.4 to €1). Even using Euros €19.99 = £17.23 (@ €1.16 to £1) – somewhat more accurate than the 1:1 exchange rates used in the listed pricing…
96

I wonder if there is going to be any response on the pricing???
97
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 4:38 pm by Suzzopher
Hopefully it’ll bomb and the publisher will learn from this stupid mistake. If this is the price of digital future then count me out.
98
Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 5:12 pm by almighty-slayer
Just so you know Oliver, it’s not that the price is too high, it’s that your exchange rate doesn’t make sense. If the rest of the currencies were priced accordingly noone would care. As it is, $19.99 should be no more than £15 or £16

Cool, because you are a french developer, i will ask you my questions in french (not difficult for me because this is my maternal language ^^) : Est-ce que Trine supportera la fonction Youtube? Allez-vous ajouter un mode online ? Combien de trophées? Merci de votre réponse

Wasn’t WipEout HD $19.99 and £11.99 here?
