Hi everyone,
My name is Olivier; I work for Nobilis, a publishing company which is based in Lyon, France. I’m a Product Manager and I’m here to tell you about an exciting new release for PlayStation Store: Trine. Trine is a fantasy action and platform game that combines 2D gameplay with 3D graphics. The game is balanced between action and puzzle solving sequences. Three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil and the player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle.
Because physics is at the core of the gameplay there is not just one solution for each puzzle, in fact you can even find a way the developers have never thought of! You can control one of the three characters of the game and switch at any time to solve the puzzles in a different manner. Each character as a unique ability so choose the one you think is best suited for the situation. The Wizard can create and move objects around to build a bridge or crush his enemies with a box. The Thief uses her bow to attack and her grappling hook to move quickly and avoid dangerous traps. The Warrior is better suited for close combat and tends to hit before he thinks! So you can play through the 16 levels of the game switching from character to character but you can also play with one or two friends in a cooperative mode. Play the whole adventure together and find new solutions by combining your characters’ powers.
How about asking the Wizard to create a box so the Thief can use it with her grappling hook? Or why don’t you make the Wizard levitate you, while you, The Warrior, destroy your enemies that were too high to reach in the first place? With 3 players, the range of options widens : ask the Thief to use her bow to fire at your enemies while the Warrior protects her with his shield and the Wizards creates boxes on top of the skeletons’ heads to crush them ! Possibilities are huge and this trailer will show you what sort of things you can do in Trine.
Coming Soon to the PlayStation Store. For sure…you’ll love it!
Update: Many of you have been asking about the price of Trine and in a few comments below I mentioned that it would be £19.99 / € 19.99 – please note that the price is actually expected to be £16.99 and €19.99. I’m sorry for any confusion caused.

Why is this game not out already? I was expecting to buy it yesterday. I don’t even want it that much but it’s still annoying.

Lovely game! I’ll buy it

This may be a good game, but the price of it seems ridiculous.
Surely the exchange rate should have been taken into consideration.
I am fed up of Europe getting over charged and getting the less PS Store products like America.

Wow it must have been fun in the Nobilis boardroom when then came up with their pricing strategy …
I know says one, lets price the US Steam version at $30 so we can wind up the PC gamers by letting them know that US PS3 gamers can buy it cheaper at $20.
I know says another, lets price the UK PS3 version higher than the US PS3 version so we can wind them up as well … it would be funny.
I really enjoyed the PC demo and I know the UK Steam version is £20 but I dont think I’ll bother with this now, shame

£19.99 UK are you taking the [DELETED]?
Why so expensive compared to elsewhere.
$19.99 = £12.60
€19.99 = £17.70

First of all pricing the £ and € at the same point is bad enough.
I live very close to the Irish border but on the UK end of things so because I live 2 minutes up the road it’s going to cost £2.36 more than my neighbours.
This pricing isn’t SCEE… this pricing is the devs setting a price which is beyond a joke.
€19.99 is NOT £19.99. I can use € in many shops along with £ and their conversions aren’t even as harsh.
This is a no go due to the ridiculous pricing structure and ridiculous price without any simple features or even a demo.

Just read the update at the bottom but the pricing is still unpleasant and disrespectful for EU gamers.
Why should it cost significantly more in the EU region than the US ?

I was looking forward to buying this game.
However, I’ve recently saw the pricing for the UK version.
A staggering £19.99. That is an absolutely ridiculous price for a downloadable game. It’s even more ridiculous, when taking into account the price on the US store.
£19.99 converts to roughly $32. So, please, do inform me why we’re paying so much extra?
You’ve lost a sale, and a fan, and I sincerely hope I’m not the only one, so as to instil into your companies minds that you can’t rip off EU customers.

I’m sorry Oliver, but £16.99 is still too expensive. Why are European gamers being charged an extra £4.50 over our US friends? Please answer me, or face looking like a coward!

Check the update at the bottom of the OP guys, it’s actually £16.99, which is still pretty steep if you ask me, but at least it doesn’t feel like we’re being stitched up so much considering the US price.

Whoa, steep price and absolutely no chance of a demo? Might be reconsidering this one, I’d like to have had the chance to try before I lay down £16.99, I’m not paying anyone that kind of money without some kind of sample.
Two wrongs don’t make a right, guys.

On further inspection, I’ve noted the title is actually £16.99.
That is STILL too much. In fact, I’d not consider a purchase until around £14, so as to closely match the price of the US release.
Obviously, this won’t change, so I’ll wait around until the price drops, and if not, then I’ll skip the game

£16.99 is still overpriced.

Posted on 10 July, 2009 at 7:35 pm by Smegzilla
£14.99 would make a lot more sense in GBP.
€16.99/€17.99 would make more sense in Euros.
Swapping the $ for a € when converting dollars to euros isn’t the way it should be done and I can see potential customers being turned off by the price, especially considering that you’re not going to even think about creating a PSN demo so people can at least try it first.

Sony you care to explain why it has to cost 200 DKR in the danish EU psn store, it’s 37$, almost double the price the US store?
You care to explain or do you continue on to hide in the bushes, when you are faced with the hard facts, that you apparently doesn’t give a **** about your customers in the EU.

Well i won’t be buying this i think it’s a disgusting price showing pure greed, i’ll be saving my money for other games that deserve that amount of money

I have been looking forward to this game for ages, but I really cant afford that much money for a PSN Game

Nice to see a revision in the price but still $19.99 doesn’t equal £16.99 – what exactly is different between the US and UK markets that warrants extra cost on a digital download?
Can’t be shipping, can’t be that production costs are cheaper in the US, its digital! Are there additional fees involved with releasing to the UK/EU PSN stores?
Seems odd that other recent releases can match the exchange rates (give or take a little bit to make it to a nice £n.99 for example).
Reduce the price further and release a demo – this game looks really great but I want to try before I buy. Tried the BF1943 demo and an hour later bought the game!

The price is way too high for a psn game and $20 equals £12 by current rates, so why are we expected to pay proportionally more money in the EU?

£16.99 and no demo? I’ll give it a miss.

HAHAHAHA *evil laugh*
I just saw the first comment page and still laughin’ like hell, NO DEMO!?
This is hilarius!
Just a reminder for you guys at scee or sony or whatever, don’t really care, wipEout HD was first released at €17,99, a FULL HD 1080p native running at 60fps and its now €14,99. You really think that this [DELETED] game worth more than wipeout hd?
Get real real guys and stop with this greed of yours its making me sick alreay.
Of course there’s always people buying, unfortunatly, but this game don’t even worth more than €10.
Oh and another thing, since the game will be available for PC too, what do you think people will choose? Hmmm, let me see what the options are:
- ps3 > psn > €19,99
- pc > free (that’s right, people always get things for free on pc)
I’ll stick with the second, and you!?

looks realy nice. For me it lokks like a mix between LBP and Prince of Persia (the old one) with some fantasy.
Two questions: Does the music form the trailer appear in the game? (It is so good)
Why always Psn? I like all the classic game boxes. I also like to buy the games in a store an read the manual while I’m driving home (with the bus)
Not the plasic ones – I’m the good cardboard boxes like the limited Shadow of the Collosus.

By the way, i guess you’ve missing (or missed) some math/economy classes:
$19.99 =/= €19.99 or £16.99
$19.99 = €14.35 and £12.33
Live rates at 2009.07.11 16:09:54 UTC
19.99 USD = 14.3448 EUR
United States Dollars Euro

Live rates at 2009.07.11 16:10:54 UTC
19.99 USD = 12.3278 GBP

Sorry, but the pricing on this game is a complete ripoff. No manual to produce, no Discs to burn and no packaging to make so no shipping of products across the ocean. Even then, most could be produced in Europe anyway and wouldn’t need to travel across the pond.
£16.99 for a digital download with no demo coming to PSN either, stuff that.
Devs, if you actually want to sell the game, keep in line with pricing across the board and not ripping off the Europeans as usual. Yes, I know there is VAT to add on, but when you keep bumping it up even more, that is what takes the [DELETED].
No Physical product doesn’t deserve what us Europeans are being shafted with yet again. Over Priced games with no transport costs what so ever.
And to finish off, you even expect people to drop £16.99 when they can’t even play a demo. Sorry, but I don’t just drop money when I want to buy a car, I test drive it first.

Looks like they really shot themselvs in the foot, and nice to see we havent had a reply…

Posted on 12 July, 2009 at 12:31 am by Smegzilla
@130
I’m certain the reply would be along the lines of:
“Yes, we really are overcharging you for our game, well spotted!”
Well, that or some meaningless blather and lies about taxes etc. to try and make it seem like they’ve done the best they can with the price.
I won’t be buying the game now, I was so looking forward to it as well.

The game is roughly 4-5 hour’s in length, £12(The correct rate) is a little much for that but i would have been ok with it, charging even more though is just taking the [DELETED]. Doubt anyone will bother buying it now lol, myself included.
Unless i get it off the US store like last time hehe.

£16.99!!
Who the hell is in charge of pricing these games? Do you know we can buy a full Blu-Ray game for that. Red Faction: Guerilla is £17.99 right now. Platinum titles are under £15. Jesus Christ.
Higher price, fewer people buy it. Lower price a lot more people buy it.
The PSP Go is going to be a complete failure for the same reason.

I’ll give you £11.99 tops? Or I shall buy the PC version for £14.99 and try the demo first. Deal?

It’s incredible how good people are at reading… The same question asked 10 times after it’s already been answered.
Trine looks cool, but I’ll probably get it on Steam. Only time will tell.

I think its funny how Olivier answered the same questions at the start over and over,
but as soon as the people come that know even £17 is a rip off to $20 Oliver is know where to be seen…..
Why?
Because Olivier knows its not fair tbh and has no reason for it.
ill have to look for another game.
