Hi everyone. My name’s Liam and I’m the European Product Manager for ModNation Racers!. I’m really happy to be able to share the latest video from the US showing some great new footage from ModNation Racers Development team.
I’ll be online Friday morning to answer any questions or comments you have. Hope you like the video.
It’s been just over a month since we had the pleasure of announcing ModNation Racers at E3. It was a huge relief to finally show our baby to the world! We can’t thank everyone enough for their enthusiasm and support!
Just in case you missed coverage of ModNation Racers at E3, we now have a trailer. And here it is:
Those 90 seconds of video capture the core values of ModNation. It’s racing, creating, and sharing made fun for everyone. And by everyone, I mean everyone.
Our team lives and breathes ModNation. We’ve got artists turning in hot laps on tracks. We’ve got programmers creating wild-looking Mods. Everyone’s making fun, original tracks by driving them. Team members are racing, creating, showing off, and one-upping each other every week.
Since the earliest prototypes, we’ve had various kids, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, brothers, sisters, moms, dads, and crazy cousins all go nuts for our game. Their passion for ModNation Racers pushes us to add more and more. More great racing moments. More cool parts for the Mods. More tools that make creating powerful and playful. More visual variety so you can make whatever you can imagine.
In short, we’ve got much, much more than we can show in the first 90 seconds!
The next several months are going to be a wild ride as we reveal more details. Stay tuned, faithful ModNation fans.

@SiRobertson.
Heavenly Sword had some nice Sixaxis implementation, as did Folklore, Flower and a few others. I agree it would need to be optional.

Kart game… on a playstation… and looking this good? Yes please! Loved your showing at E3. However, split-screen… for the love of all that is holy… SPLIT SCREEN!
LBP gets all four controllers lit-up and both my girlfriend and her kids are relishing this being a 4-player-scream-fest!
Do it now, Liam. Break my heart or make my day. Split *sniff*… Screen?*sniff* Dare I hope?

In regards online, any chance of a online split screen mode like warhawk?
Also a few weapon ideas if the game includes them (can’t stop thinking of MK :/ )
Bag of marbles
you throw them behind you and they spread across the track (3 kart width’s)
Two potential penalties are typical spin out/loss of traction,or it reverses the steering input.
A Magic bean
This is dependant on the engine
Could be used to deform the track somehow, adding bumps that mess with the angle your driving at.
Ghettoblaster
Sticks on the back of your Kart and sends out disorientating beats (in a cone based viewing angle)
It wound send a pulse wave on every beat that would cause anyone behinds screen to blur up,and the sound effects would change into a dream like echo, with that high pitch tone like war games use when your stunned.
Got a few more but will keep them.

I’m worried somewhat about the game’s identity. As of now it feels like it’s riding on LBP’s popularity (the games even share the same motto) and doesn’t have much identity of it’s own. It’s fundamental this game stands out from the crowd (especially considering this is going to be a retail release) for it to succeed.
I really like what you guys are striving for, so I would hate to see this game bomb in retail.

This could well be the most competitive game around if handled correctly, another game to add to my ‘gotta get’ list….. here’s looking forward to the footage.

How about cows that when you hit them you slow down but it won´t kill them, they only say muu and looks at you funny?
Or monkeys running all over the place and if you hit one of them (it should be a bit a hard) you get some boost or maybe a banana bomb.

I have just watched the E3 Live demo over at IGN and after seeing the track editor in action I am, without doubt, going to purchase this game when it is released.
Don’t forget to add camera angle options though, the camera looked a bit too low in the demo (personal preference). Also… savable replays (maybe with custom cameras placed around the track) would be amazing, even it is only available in single player mode.
Great work Liam, ModNation Racers is now sitting comfortably alongside Gran Turismo 5 at the top of my “must buy” game list.

Suggestion: Nathan Drake sackboy and Kratos cameos as first dlc packs some sony mascots or from other developers would make me drool. Are we gonna get some crazy tracks with insane jumps and stuff sort of like what ctr did and ofc mario kart.

This is one of the games from E3 that interested me the most.
Although track creation in racing games isn’t new, this particular one got me intrigued.
From the trailer at E3 it looked like building a decent track is easy and quick (I liked how you can make a track by driving on a blank canvas). In comparison to LittleBigPlanet’s levels which required a bit of patience.
A few questions: Say a person who has never played the game before. Will they be able to build a track as easy as you guys did in that E3 trailer?
Are there a wide selection of track themes? For example volcano, underwater, sewer, space/moon, desert, tundra levels.
One last question: Are aware when this game comes out there will be thousands of levels of remade tracks from other racing games like Mario Kart? As much as those levels are nice on LBP it gets a little boring playing the 25th Sonic level. So maybe a way to filter them. A category system perhaps? It’s hard to find those hidden gems that had a lot of time and effort put in because it’s obscured by those levels.
Looking forward to when it gets released.

Looks good. If it’s half the fun as LBP then this is gonna be a good game.

Hi,
I spend a lot of time with my friends on a game like Mashed Fully loaded, and it is a pleasure to me to play with friends at home, so do you know if 4 players split screen will be implemented in this promosing game ?
Thank you !

that looks great, its basically littlebigplanet but its racing, and im going to buy it if the track creators online are decent and their tracks are professional. not all that littlebigplanet “best lvl evur” stuff that has the bubbles IN the floor and basically walking from left to right with story and community objects ONLY. and when i said “track creators online” i meant the people who bought the game and decided to make their own track, not the actual game developers.
