Welcome back trusted and loyal blog followers. I hope you have all been enjoying the summer (or winter to our Aussie friends on the other side of the equator) We have LOTS to tell you this time, I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself. Basically, I have a tale of magical festivals, and of course VidZone update details!!
Global Gathering – Stratford Upon Avon, UK – 24 – 25 July
Sometimes.. Very rarely, VidZone releases me from my shackles and lets me out into the real world
Well I say the real world…Global Gathering 2009 isn’t really the real world unless you consider a field full of huge marquees blaring out blistering dance music, Circus rides as high as the eye can see interwoven with the most colourful and imaginatively dressed people you have ever seen running and skipping on the hunt for the perfect mix of beats and bass, rhythm and melody to suit each of their (mostly very) unique dancing styles.
Among others, we got to see loads of VidZone acts including The Prodigy, Armin Van Buuren, ATB, Eric Prydz, The Whip and Mark Knight over what were two days of hedonistic perfection which culminated in one of the most beautiful sunrises that I have seen in the UK ever on Sunday morning. Highlight??…The Prodigy of course
Check it out on VidZone
Here are a few photos I think show the vibe of festival nicely. Let us know what festivals or good gigs you’ve been to this year?!
Update Details
The most important feature of the update this week is an addition of ONE THOUSAND more videos. This will mean you need to accept the latest update from the XMB. To see a handful of the best latest added videos, go to Menu > Featured > Latest Videos.
HOMEPAGE FEATURES
Artist of the Week – Beyoncé
Everyone’s favourite diva has stacked up quite a catalogue of videos over the years since Destiny’s Child. Whether she is ‘Crazy in Love’ or ‘Putting a Ring’ on it she keeps rolling out hit after hit after hit.
Best of Acoustic
No electricity allowed! From Jack Johnson to Counting Crow’s, sit back and relax to the acoustic sounds straight from the heart.
Exclusive VV Brown Interview
This retro fringed pop fashonista has blasted onto the scene with a blend of 1950’s pop and modern day electronica. Having supported The Ting Tings and being a backup vocalist for Madonna and The Pussycat Dolls, we were more than privileged that VV Brown took time out of her busy schedule to exclusively chat with us about jealousy, Polaroid’s, evolution and more.
FEATURED PLAYLISTS
Party Tunes
Having a house party? Need a DJ? Well look no further! DJ VidZone comes to the rescue – or should I say VJ?! Black Eyed Peas, Kool and The Gang, Foo Fighters and Wham! will keep you up and partying until the morning (or until the neighbours complain) whatever comes first. Let us know if you’ve had a party with VidZone yet?!
Kids Pop Party
Cancel the clown and the bouncy castle and let VidZone take over the entertainment duties. From Busted to B*Witched this playlist will have your littl’uns bouncing around until it’s time for cake.
Best Artists of the 21st Century
OK, so this is a matter of opinion but I reckon we have got a pretty perfect list of artists that have shaped the sound of the century so far…I won’t give you any examples just in case you don’t agree
so check it out for yourself.
Anti Love Songs
Not all of us are into all that vomit-inducing, lovey-dovey ballads which seem to have been constantly around since the dawn of time. With videos like Alice Cooper‘s ‘Poison’ to Kaiser Chiefs‘ ‘Every Day I Love you Less and Less’, let’s fight the revolution against the love song!
The Sound of the Streets
Busta to Bizzle and N Dubz to N.E.R.D. This is the sound of the streets. Big urban tunes from all your favourite rappers and artists to play as loud as your system will go.
So.. That’s it I think….. I’m sure I have forgotten something……. oh well I’m sure it wasn’t important. Hope you all have a good week and I will be back soon to give you details of yet more exciting VidZone based stuff. Until then.. Au revoir.

Well, it’s started =(
I understand Sony has to make some revenue from Vidzone and now it looks like Sony have taken a step beyond the nice and discrete banner ads to interrupt my playlists with videos ads; nice – a great big mood killer in your face!
Ah well, the free lunch buffet is now closed.

People all over Europe living in countries other then the UK, Spain, Germany and France are still wondering when the service is comming to their territories. They, as much as the customers that you have in the countries where VidZone is available, have the right to be listened to and to get a straight answer. Maybe you havn’t thought about it this way, but every Sony customer pays a part of your salary.
I’m sorry Ben but you keep on ignoring a huge part of your salary. I understand that getting bugged about the same issue time and time again can be, and probably is, very annoying. As the spokes person on this matter for Sony, all cries go out to you.
So please, PLEASE, give us some decent answer on this matter. We don’t care if it says Q4 2009 or Q1 2010. But give us some estimations.
The fact that only a part of Europe can benefit and use VidZone is enourmously frustrating to all the users that are not able to enjoy this one service that they REALLY want.
So I ask you again, Ben, please tourture your supperiour officers to death if you have to, but get us a decent answer.
Thank you,

Hi Ben!
I know the official Blu-ray remote works with VidZone if I assign it to controller port one (somebody asks this every week and gets the same answer) but it doesn’t work as it should. I.e. the PLAY, PAUSE, STOP, TRACK SKIP, REWIND and FAST FORWARD buttons are not supported by VidZone. Is it on the TODO list to actually provide proper support for the blu-ray remote in the future? (please!)
Thanks
Richard

I think Vidzone is fantastic. I used it recently for a BBQ/sumer party and it was the main attraction, even more so than my black crispy burgers…i couldn’t believe it !
One thing needs sorting though, and thats the interface, it’s just not that user friendly at the moment.
Keep it up gang, nice work !

Good gigs I’ve been to this summer? Saw Elton John & Billy Joel at their Face 2 Face concert. Pretty awesome. I’m a huge fan of acoustic/piano music.

Hi I was just wondering if there was a reason to why some videos were removed from Vidzone, ( all of Rammstein in particular) there were a fair few vids of theirs when the service was first launched but now for some reason and without warning none are available, not sure why they were removed.. are they coming back any time soon ?
also some Artists are listed but have no videos to play dragonforce being one are they going to be added if so any ETA on that.
Other wise it’s a great App. thanks

Vidzone is awesome, no doubt about that, but you HAVE TO change the search function – the scrolling through letters and numbers is a pain when you’re searching by artist – or searching at all, really.
Most games seem to be able to pop up the XMB’s text input menu – can Vidzone be made to do this, so you don’t have to scroll? This is the only real barrier to me using the app more regularly.
Direct text input has got to be the way forward with this!

ben,
can you help us out mate. I just stumbled on this playlist called funkmaster or something and it had some awesome tunes. Unfortunately i cant find it anymore after logging off and logging back on to vidzone. It seems that the playlist was displaced by new ones as i logged in.
is there a way i can get that playlist of at least the songs on it? please mate there was a catchy song in there. Damn i wish i knew the name and the artist!

Hey Vandaliser
We were stumped to start with but i think we know what you mean now.
Was it Frankmusik? We had an artist feature on him a few weeks back.
Did we get it?

Once again I got disappointed with the last update of the Playsation Store… still no Vidzone available for Scandinavia…
This is why I won’t buy anything on the Playsation Store until this service is available to all Europe.

Hey Ben,
Do you know if there’s anywhere I can find a list, full or partial, of the new songs added this week? 1000 songs is a hell of a task, hats off to you and the rest of the Vidzone team.
Posted on 31 July, 2009 at 11:15 am by Ben Creasey
Hi Mental_Legend
Not this week i’m afraid. But in future we are thinkin gof putting all new videos into their own playlist so you can go through them yourselves.
Sound like a good idea?

Thanks for the update. Great to see it being supported. Apart from fixing the broken search function, can I request the video size be shown before playing? (crucial in Australia)
Also an indicator of what videos are currently ‘cached’ would be great as well.
Would love to use it more but it’s just too risky with the pathetic download quotas in this country.

… Or Sony could team up with internet providers to unmeter vidzone content. From talking to isps here they say it is up to Sony, so any chance of that?

Hey, a friend of mine came over last night and decided he wants to buy a PS3 just because of this app
So thanks for making such an awesome application.
I do also want to mention my minor gripe about the blu-ray remote. I presumed it wasn’t working – but I read your post above about having to set it manually to be controller 1, I’ll try that out when I get home. It’s a bit rubbish having to do that, no?
Thanks for an otherwise great app though!

We would really really like to have VidZone in all over EUROPE please. Have you got any infos when it’s possible?

ben,
the playlist was all about funky stuff. like you have a playlist on heartbreak or hip hop classics this playlist was all funk. although there is a chance i may be mistaken
One thing i am positively sure about is that one of the songs in the playlist had blink 182 in them. i think one of their songs ‘The Rock show’ was in it.
i usually identify that playlist by looking for Blink 182. So if you can find the playlist that had blink 182 in it recently that’s the playlist i am looking for!!
please i need that playlist ben!
Thanks!

ben,
after doing a bit of research i am guessing it was one of the playlists that was introduced in the last update on 16th of july. one of those playlists along with the one i want was called euro dance.
the playlist i was looking for had blink 182 in it. and ofcourse various other artists.
i hope we can have all playlists introduced in recommeded feature hopefully

I’m surprised nobody is moaning about the annoying video adverts which have started showing up on VidZone. It plays a few tracks then one of only two adverts, so it gets old REAL fast especially as one is a movie trailer so seems to go on for ages.
Its quite ironic as people were praising that the adverts were not disruptive on VidZone and now suddenly, they are. I get the need for adverts, but having banners popup every minute or so AND video trailers between songs seems a bit overkill. One or the other please as even TV is not that bad.

make it work with the ps3 remote control. it’s frustrating that can use the remote control for photos, music, videos, playtv, internet… everything except VidZone which require a controller

Hi there!
I’d like to see videos of bands like Faith No More, Primus, Megadeth, Testament and other bands like these…
When could we see videos of that genre?
VidZone is AWESOME…

Hey guys, will you finally fix the remote on vidzone, please.
It’s a bit frustrating. Same that you can’t come back to main (front) page of VidZone to change set of clips, and also some times changing them from list doesn’t work so I have to quit program completely and run it again, and it would be great acctualy if you could make it starting quicker on my ps3 it takes sometimes couple of miutes or so.. :/
