Hello everyone, its Penrose Tackie here with more news from the beautifully rendered world of Gran Turismo.
Today we take another step closer towards the launch of GT-PSP as we officially reveal the pack image. The car featured on the packfront for those without an encyclopaedic knowledge of cars is the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
The choice of what to feature as lead vehicle of a release as big as GT was a carefully considered process.
The resulting selection of one of GMs’ cars is clearly a reflection of Kazunori Yamauchi at Polyphony’s respect and admiration for the global motoring industry and the American giants in particular.
And it certainly hasn’t escaped the notice of Yamauchi-san that these are difficult times for the global and American motoring industry.
In a recent interview that he gave to the PlayStation Blog he expands on this theme and also the inspiration that he has drawn over the years from motor manufacturing Mecca, Detroit.
Kazunori Yamauchi
This spring I visited Detroit a few times, mainly to see the factories of the Big 3, and their museums and archives.
What I came to realize in those visits, was that the designs and mechanisms of American cars, in all eras over the years, have always been aimed towards a bright new future that all little kids dream about, and just seeing them makes your heart race.
I found that when I’m surrounded by these generations of American cars, it just simply makes me happy.
There is a different experience in European car museums. In Europe I am more enveloped by a humbling, almost holy experience, in awe of the existence of the Automobile that was born out of practicality, and usually appreciate its rich, diligent history of engineering in silent respect.
And so I’ve really come to realize more and more lately, that “American Cars have always been looking straight into the future, and have always been full of dreams – and quite wonderful after all.”
With all the automotive industry in the world at a crisis, I know that North American automakers are especially in a very difficult situation, and I understand the background and the reasons behind this.
And I can easily envision these things affecting our works as well. After all, as you well know, the game Gran Turismo is a video game that grew thanks to the insight and vision of the automotive industry, and in effect nurtured by its kindness, in its very womb.
And that’s why I wanted us to make something, that could cheer up those in the industry.
Many GM cars representative from the Autorama days have really helped build the foundations of my adoration and sense of value for cars. And something that had always been deep within my heart over the years, is the long line of Corvettes.
As long as I’ve known in every era, even from when I was a very small child, the Corvette has always been one of the coolest cars around.
And that is the reason why the newest Corvette ZR-1, was selected for the package cover of Gran Turismo for the PSP that is planned for release.
Also, there’s a fun little bit at the ending of this PSP version Gran Turismo, that is in concert with this package image of the Corvette.
I hope you’ll look forward to its release.

I have had my PS3 since launch but only recently bought a PSP for 2 reasons:
LBP and GT PSP – I love GT and had to get a PSP so I could play it.
Hopefully GT5 will be dated for Nov/Dec this year too.

American cars are horrible! Worst car choice ever.
I expected a japanese car.

For me, PSP has a really strong line up, LBP, GT, MGS and I’d love to play china town wars.
But really, Gran turismo PSP is great, but I’m sure most people here will be waiting for GT5?

We may be waiting for GT5, but GT PSP will more than keep me happy! The PSP lineup is looking pretty sweet.

thats some sexy looking packaging there, love the light trails (oh yeah, and the car
). sounds like a great choice of car to represent the game with, given its history, style and just the design of it in general.
hopefully the game will live up to the casings frontcover hehe.
ps. Penrose Tackie is the best name ever!

Those pics are from GT5. Though the El Capitan track looks like it’s from GT4 but with a GT5 car.

Having a Maserati GTS as your profile pic instantly increases my respect for you – I have that exact picture as my desktop
I’m really looking forward to this game, and this article is only increasing my anticipation

This comment isn’t really linked to this entry, but it is indirectly.
Seriously great job in just the last few days guys, I’ve really enjoyed the posts, to be wowed by just yet another follow up, thinking that it’ll be about 3 or so days before something else interesting comes up.
I’m not going to be an ahole and expect that weekly, daily, but I can tell this blog overall is defiantely going somewhere. I think it will be tremendous just to have the more candid dialog we’ve been having with u guys, let alone the great articles and some more direct interaction with the developers of some great games themselves.
It goes along way to hear, unfortunately we don’t have anything new on mgs yet, wish i could tell u more. The latter is the most important part of that sentence. Keep it up and keep it real!

Yay!! Only 4 years after the PSP was launched!!!
Stop making stupid BMW launch videos and get on with GT5, and make sure that it’s worth the wait!!

This a very nice cover. Having waited for this game for ages, it’s good to see it’s so nearly here. So is it called ‘Gran Turismo’ or ‘Gran Turismo for PSP’
Now SCEE, can you please not ruin it, or any future PSP or PS3 cover for that matter, by including your ugly PSN circle on the front. If you want to advertise PSN, include the smart bar that SCEA uses at the top of their box covers, OR use an actual sticker for the PSN circle, so that those of us who do not like it can take it off.

ZR1 urgh! now do we get a date on GT5 as Forza 3 is going to be dropping around the same time as GT-PSP and seeing as GT-PSP has ‘connectivity to the PS3′ it would be stupid to delay GT5 any longer.
unless you plan on packaging it in a PS3-SLIM/GT5 bundle ;P

Can we have this as a digital download from PSN? If so you just sold a PSPgo
41
Posted on 31 July, 2009 at 8:21 pm by Zippi-
Still not sold to GT for PSP. I need some hard evidence of its looks and feel through, say, a review maybe? And kinda backing up some cos of the GT5, if it releases not too long after GT for PSP, I might have no need for portable driving experience.

Before this blog post I had a PSPGo on pre-order, well I’ve just cancelled it. Already I can see Sony will leave it behind and we’ll be seeing stupid prices. Plus, why would I not want to own box art that looks as good as this?
Do you know what would be brilliant? If you could buy the game on UMD and have the ability to download to a PSPGo at the same time. Because right now, I’m waiting for Sony to announce their secret PSP 4000, no, not the PSPGo, but an even slimmer model of the current PSP.
Until the PSP 4000 is announced, I won’t be playing GT PSP.

Absolutely no way are these screenshots rendered by the PSP, let alone in-game. More like GT5. Don’t be fooled, guys.
