Hello all. After our experiment to go out early last week, we’ve decided to revert back to providing the store updates on the blog on a Thursday, to ensure you have the most accurate information possible. However, we will make sure that the content updates are provided nice and early on a Thursday morning so that you still have quite a bit of warning as to what will be available later in the day. I think this is a good middle ground between the test from last week, and when we used to publish the content updates after the store was updated, so I hope you’ll still feel this is an improvement on how we used to do it.
I apologise that the Wednesday test was so short-lived, but it turns out that it was more difficult than I’d first anticipated for our teams to confirm completely accurate content that much in advance.
Okay, so onto the content this week, we have another mixed bag available for you, from the quiz game TV Show King, to the demo version of Batman: Arkham Asylum, via a trial for Rag Doll Kung-Fu to the third map pack for the ever popular Call of Duty: World at War.
The Waldgeist expansion pack for Savage Moon has also arrived, as well as additional content for LittleBigPlanet, and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. That’s not all though, for a complete list scroll down for more!

@194 I don’t mind things being cheaper or more expensive. There are good reasons and I expect them.
But when two games are released for $14.99 on the US store and end up completely different prices on the EU store, on the same day, I think we deserve to know why.

Question: now how do we know when the update is coming out, since the post doesn’t say it, or does it?
Because every thursday afternoon I check the PS3 ten times or something, but can’t you guys find out when the update is coming out?
Last week it took this long as well, and I wanted Fat Princess so bad, and now I want the Batman demo so bad…
Posted on 6 August, 2009 at 3:35 pm by Mike Kebby
Because when the store has fully updated I update in the comments. This pre-launch updating on the blog has only happened these last two weeks, previously once the blog was updated with the store list it was live, now these updates are a ‘heads-up’.

Store’s have been published, so your consoles should show the refreshed store very soon.
There were two pieces of content that didn’t make it this week, Extreme Pinball, and the Fight Night Pack has now been pushed back to the end of August I’m afraid. Apologies.

I’ll echo what a lot of EU Playstation fans feel. We know SCEE are trying to update their services and the such, but its not happening fast enough. I know you are PR and won’t admit that we are getting mugged off, but we are. As a rather large and longtime Playstation fan, I’m starting to get sick of the lack of improvement. Its all very well having an EU blog, but we aren’t seeing the improvements required. Andrew House needs to sort things out, and fast.
1. Demand better PSone games from Publishers. You know, the actual good games.
2. Get the Movie and Music stores out this year.
3. Add more clothes and accessories to Home.
4. Get Cross-Game voice chat as a REQUIREMENT in every game this year.
Three out of the four, we have been pleading for, for at least a couple of years. If we don’t see some progress on these issues by the end of the year (preferably solutions at the Cologne GDC) then you might end up losing a lot of your fans.
Posted on 6 August, 2009 at 4:10 pm by Mike Kebby
Let me say again this week that I do not work in PR! I am part of the store team, and yes a new part of my role is to write on here and communicate with you all, but I do not see that as PR (as most people think of it), it’s more a community service provided by someone who works very closely with the PS Store content
All four of your points are very valid concerns, and I hope we start to see a real improvement in those areas too!!

Batman Arkham Asylum. Finally. I can’t wait to get my hands on the demo later tonight. I hope it really is as great as it looks in the past gameplay videos.
also great to post the content of the store update before it actually goes online, so we know whats coming at us. you should keep it that way.
This update also shows me that somehow i think i have to take a look into the offical guitar hero boards. these guys are really unable to release any useful dlc content for their game. im so jealous of the rockband updates every week.

Thanks for the fine update this week Mike, I’m downloading the Batman: AA update as we speak. Ever since InFamous I’ve really been interested in comic books, which made me go out and buy the Nolan Batman movies on blu-ray, I loved them. Obviously a lot more realistic than the originals & the comics, but still great. I can’t wait until AA, I’ve preordered it and when the demo finishes downloading (35 minutes) we’ll find out if I keep my preorder of the Collector’s Edition
Other than that, still a good update of DLC.
I’m almost tempted to stop reading these comments every week, I get so annoyed at people whinging about not have a new game every week. But when we get one (or three one week!) they still whinge. I’m sure you of all people know that you guys just can’t win sadly.
Oh and Mike: more exclusive interviews with developers! More Uncharted, more MAG, LOTS more Heavy Rain, and more PSN game news – I can’t think of any PSN games I’m looking forward to other than the upcoming Pool game. Get an announcement out of David Jaffe for Eat Sleep Play’s new game too

im really starting to give up on SCEE, the lack of content is getting tiredsome its same old same old each week, i want to see new games for ps3, yeah its great to have ps1 classics or content for other games, but were always last here in the EU and its a joke.
if u look at the overall of the store it seems we have a total content of 830 you may say wow thats good but think how long the store has been out im sure the US content alone is more then double of ours.
what i dont understand is why games such has metal gear solid which has already been translated need to be retranslated in order to be put on the store makes no sense if you have a answer to that mike? i would like to hear it
Posted on 6 August, 2009 at 4:58 pm by Mike Kebby
Actually if you add up the amount of content across the PS3 and PSP stores it amounts to over 2500 individual items.
Please understand that just because a game does not release in Europe it does not mean it is down to the languages or translations, this is very rarely the case. Yes we require different language versions, but publishers manage this usually without problems. So many people make this incorrect assumption.
There are many different laws for each region and legal issues that the publisher may need to iron out before they can even begin to think about submitting content (licensing issues, payment rights for voice actors, artists etc, in fact there are a myriad of various reasons why content can be held up because of legal issues). Also, couple this with whatever marketing reasons a publisher may have for releasing content at a later date, and then the longer QA process we have and this all can be attributed to the delays we can see in content releasing in Europe.
This is NOT to say I don’t feel your pain because I do, but sometimes things are just out of our hands, no matter how much we want content onto the store.

@guyvernoid22 Mike has already said the absence of MGS is down to Konami, not SCEE.

Quick question about the Savage Moon DLC.
I just bought the DLC and it installed no problem, but now when I boot up the game it shows as a trial version. And the I can’t redownload it from the store (the buy/download button is gone).

Hey Mike
here is another idea from the content armchair theorist (me).
If you don’t go to GamesCom, you’ll get it on the blog, hehe.
I really like how you give us a little bit more insight into the processes involved in releasing stuff on the PSN.
So how about this:
In addition to dev. interviews, give us some more insight about the people behind the scenes at Sony by doing some mini-posts (or better videos) that interview people at Sony.
Maybe follow a standardized format going like this:
What’s your name?
What are you doing at Sony?
Tell us why your job is fun…
Tell us about the typical challenges you got to deal with..
245
Posted on 6 August, 2009 at 5:34 pm by dnadns
…continued
Not only would that help us understand what’s going on a little bit better, but actually it might be of real value for some of the younger folks (I think I surpassed this line myself now) that want to get involved with the industry. Can’t hurt to bring some more human touch to the big corporation that Sony is and have some recognizable names there.
If you want to aim high also go with the big shots like Kaz Hirai. Even though most of us know what they do, it would be cool to get something like that.
Now with two suggestions for today, I tend to keep some for the next shop update

All the European branches of the consoles lag behind the others in terms of content. Look at Xbox updates, or Nintendo updates. Compared with America and definitely Japan (If its Nintendo or Sony), the content is almost always behind. I’m sure there have been reasons for this as stated in these comments and other places. Until the entirety of Europe is ‘united’ like America and Japan are, and the laws are the same across each individual country, we will likely play catch up most of the time.
