Does this feature need a special HDMI port or can it just be updated with firmware? Any A/V tech geeks wanna answer that?

Are you shure about that, will the PS3 not just reset itself, not a shutdown..? And if so, then the button will have 3 funktions on/off, reset, shutdown..hmmmm would rather have the old power button, its also faster to use, rather than having to sit with your finder on the power button for 20 sekonds.

I am sure as hell not gonny buy the new slim version just for that feature, but i could sure use it…

What I missed were some local details – for me for instance it was very interesting to see that we’ll get BBC iPlayer and such directly supported from the XMB, but not only that, a lot of other countries get links to their equivalent services (including Dutch NOS, Australian ABC, Spanish rtve, and several others).

Ditto for vidzone – Benelux was specifically mentioned as well as Scandinavian countries to get it before the end of the year, but most European countries should be getting it soon.

Why not go see the conference for yourself in Home, in the Presentation Podium? It streams pretty good, and it is followed by a whole bunch of interviews. Though I’m guessing we’ll get these here and/or on PSN soon as well, but this is the place where you can watch it already (as of yesterday morning I think).

Is it only PS3 Slim, or is it in Firmware 3.0 ?

Give the people what they really want: Backwards compatibility.

If it’s not announced soon for PS3 I’m selling mine, because the PS3 games and the pathetic online service aren’t worth it. I only got it because PS2 emulation had to be right around the corner and I wanted better picture quality from PS2 games on my LCD TV.

1# You will have to buy an extra PS3 stant to get our PS3 upright, witch is extra money out of your poket.

2# Still only two USB ports.

3# Bad idea to remove the power contact behind the PS3, now you will have to crawl down behind your setup to pull our the power cord from the power outlet if your PS3 frezzes.

4# Gone are the touch buttons, this was one of the greatest things about the PS3, it gave it a feel of quality.

5# Linux is gone.

6# The nice black finish is gone, witch also gave it a quality finish.

7# Frontdraw to harddrive is unnessesary, because with 120GB, most people wount need to change harddrive, so this space could have been used to something better, like more USB ports.

So the only positive things about the new PS3 Slim is the lower power comnsumption and the smaller size, but thats not much of a remake, it more like a step backwards.

Looks like Scandinavian territories, or at least Sweden, get to pay the same as for the current 80GB (no price drops announced, most retailers still sell it for the equiv of €360, and pre-order prices are on that level for the Slim also.)

– the emotion engine code is already in the old 60gb PS3s, but they have some PS2 hardware components for the graphics synthesizer chip, which have not been in any models since (including the slim) in order to reduce the manufacturing costs, and thus keep retail costs down. it’s all very well saying, “add what everyone wants and boost sales”. however, simultaneously everyone’s been saying “your console costs too much you need to lower the price or sales will suffer”. it doesn’t work both ways. if software emulation was a trivial matter i’m sure they would have done it, but apparently it is not. sony believes it can increase the install base on the PS3′s own merits. time will tell..
