I’ve always wanted to write a videogame – it’s on my list of things to do before I lose interest in writing videogames. Therefore, I look forward to interviews with the Heavy Rain writer and director David Cage and I’m always keen to listen to his storytelling philosophies. I managed to catch up with him outside the showfloor at gamescom, away from the gunfire and heavy metal that is still ringing in my ears.
I didn’t get to play the new scene in the end, partly because I acted like a headless chicken and partly because I want to take in the whole game in one sitting when I get hold of a copy, but it looks stunning. If you want to check it out for yourselves, head on over to US PlayStation.Blog to see David Cage walk you through the new level.

After watching scott shelby in action, im genuinely excited to play heavy rain … what ive seen really shows an interesting combination of elements that reminds me of those classic rpgs of the 90′s (Bladerunner pc, multiple endings, randomised ai variables eg who is replicant… if your character was etc) Also I loved the ambition of dreamcast’s shenmue, the chance to live a characters life virtually! With Shenmue you could spend hours absorbing detail, looking through desk drawers in the main characters accurately realised home, multiple npc interaction with various story branches to trigger. I for one hope this story driven experience breeds a new genre of next gen gaming

The game looks great…but there are many flaws that Quantic Dream really has to focus on if they want to attract the attention of a much wider audience.
The controls are one of these flaws and the graphics don’t look like they pushing the ps3 hardware. They take too much emphasis on characters, faces, animation e.t.c ( which they look great )and they don’t focus on environment that makes it a little bit uneven.(most outdoors environments we’ve seen so far don’t look good)one last thing i noticed in a scene where there are people walking the street is that the framerate looks awful.
The game has what it takes too be a GREAT game that it will attract many to experience it but in order to do so it still needs a lot of work…otherwise it will be another mediocre game unknown to many
