We’ve been teasing you about this for a while now. But we’re good at it, and we can’t help ourselves. Now you can relax… the teasing is finally over.
The response from the Game Developers Conference in March was great. The E3 reactions were even greater. And, finally, coming to PlayStation Network on August 27th, it’s SMASH CARS from TikGames / Creat Studios!
So, just what is Smash Cars? Why, it’s is our tricked-out single or multiplayer online RC toy car racing game. With real-time physics simulation and vehicle customization, players can twist and turn, grind and gear up, perform aerial tricks and stunts while racking up points as they knock friends off the track and race to the finish.
Everyone can download all the high-end action and six-player online multiplayer competition starting Thursday, August 27th for €14.99/£11.99. TikGames and Creat Studios are very excited about this launch, ‘cause we know you will have a blast playing Smash Cars.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. A great action racing game at a great price might be cool, but… what about trophies? What about downloadable extras? What about a contest to win a convertible sports car? Here’s the deal:
Trophies, trophies and more trophies. Rack ‘em up and brag to your friends.
Downloadable content is being discussed. Stay tuned to this space.
Oh, please! We’re not giving you a car. We’ve already worked hard on a great game… sheesh!
Thanks so much to our fans for your support. We really appreciate all the kind words and helpful suggestions. Please share your thoughts about Smash Cars. We just know you’re going to love it.

@48 Scott is the “Director of Business Development”…sounds to me like a person near those in charge of pricing.

You gotta be kidding with 11.99?
Not even going to give this game a look in at that price with those reviews.
Loved Magic Ball though Tiki, just a shame about this.

So an average score of 6.5 based upon review scores, no demo and inflated pricing.
I’ve spent my fair share of money on the PSN Store but if the pricing structure continues to rise I’ll be spending less.
£9.99 is THE price that people are willing to pay and for that cost I can buy a full retail game.
Example being that I can go into GameStop (UK) and they have a few titles that are priced at £11.99. Many more at £14.99.
So the cost of the PSN titles can get ridiculous and the complaints stem from the Battlefield 1943 pricing and 2 weeks later a sudden price hike, which looks like it’s here to stay.

@ Scott Hyman
I don’t need a degree in anything to know that, when one game priced at $15 is £10 (Battlefield, Watchmen), and another is priced at £12 (Fat Princess, Smash Cars), something is wrong somewhere.
Sony suck at pricing across Europe, not just in the UK. Tru fax

Game looks nice as a racer, but the stunty stuff isn’t my cup of tea.
Ditto the price.

This game looks pretty fun, but it’s simply not worth 15 euro’s.

Basically what #1 said! Micro Machines rocked – and I’m sure this will too!

I was considering it because it looked cool.
Then I saw the price…

The game reminds me Stunt GP–nice game with RC cars..but this…looks A LOT more fun and more hardcore (if RC cars can be hardcore
)
Only wonder how much PL Store will want for it…
And I hope there gonna be demo/trial soon.

how many tracks? how many cars? it’s incredible, I can’t find any info even on the official website… no demo, I see… after three years of PSN we have to hope for a demo, when “others” offers demos of EVERY SINGLE game they sell.

€15, Seriously!?
SCEE is making its way to a ‘stand up’ contest? feels like…
Keep on making me laugh with this prices for worthless gameboy games.

Smash Cars £11.99?
You would have to have absolutely no concept of the value of money.

Interesting looking title, bad price.
I skipped Fat Princess completely, a game I was looking forward to for the better part of a year, because of the £2 extra price point, and I’ll skip this one completely too.
It is -extremely- disappointing to see publishers, and devs releasing titles at that price point, when one such as £8.99 or £9.99 would be much more pleasing.
It sounds like such a small amount, and it is, in terms of cash, but in principle, it is quite massive.
Sort it out.

It better have a demo/trial version as I am done buying games off PSN that sound cool but I hate once I play them.
I made that mistake more than once and will not be doing it again.
Sadly there seems to be a lot of PSN games that sound good but are shallow poor excuses when you actually play them. No wonder you buys do not want demos as standard.

Looks like Super Sonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars but in a racing format which is great as I loved that game.
Only problem being that it was fairly priced at £7.99 unlike this £11.99 issue and I only bought SSARPBC after randomly downloading the demo. I cannot afford to stick down £11.99 on the idea that I might like it so no game for me till after a demo

The first thing I thought of when I saw this game was “Re-Volt”, a classic RC toy racing game back in its day. Re-Volt had some very cool racing environments, Smash Cars appears to fall flat on its face in that area unfortunately, the tracks seem to be very mundane and unimaginative.
I might grab a copy of Smash Cars when the prices drops below the £5.00 mark but not before then.
Good luck with it though.

Looks like Excite Truck mixed with Micro Machines!

I can’t afford it right now tho. This will have to wait..
Is it just me or are PSN games getting more expensive lately?

Looks like it could be a funny game. But if I can´t try it before I buy it, unfortunately (for TikGames or me?) it´s no buy for me.

This is really bad (not the game, but the pricing).
14.99USD does equal 23.95AUD which we know it will cost.
14.99USD = $18.15AUD
What a rip.
Mike Keeby said publishers set the price, not Sony.

The game looks good, but I cant justify spending $24 on a PSN game. If they keep getting more expensive, I’m not going to buy them
.

no split screen

Posted on 27 August, 2009 at 11:29 am by Rushy
No demo, no purchase. And the lack of split-screen for a game of this type is disappointed.
Whilst I really want to give this game a go, the price point doesn’t make it an impulse purchase. So I’m going to have to rely on reviews to decide for me, and hopefully if a demo ever arrives I can make my own mind up.

Very interested in the game but would like to know how many tracks there are, bye the way it does look fantastic

Sure! I’m thrilled, and I think everyone is. The price drop makes the device accessible to more customers, and the new slim design looks quite cool.
I think everyone is excited to see more customers take advantage of the power that the PS3 holds. I still think that the best is yet to come from the PlayStation 3.
