Hi, I’m Keir, you may remember me from such official forums as Tomb Raider: Underworld, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men and now Batman Arkham Asylum. Yep, I’m lucky enough to be Group Community Manager at Eidos. Batman: Arkham Asylum (which is out now!) has pwned my waking hours (and some of my sleeping ones) over the last few months. It’s been a genuine delight to work with Rocksteady’s masterpiece (in case you haven’t seen any reviews, check out IGN 9.3/10, Gamespot 9/10, 1up A-, Gametrailers 9/10, Eurogamer 9/10, gamespy 5/5) and I’m here to tell you about the epic PS3 exclusives…
Along with the awesome ‘Play as the Joker’ PS3 DLC in which you control the Joker in Challenge Maps (with some great special moves including my favourite: the kick in the nuts) we’re also giving PS3 owners the chance to get their very own Batcave Outpost in PlayStation Home. Available exclusively on PlayStation3, the Batcave Outpost is a faithful recreation of the Batcave under Arkham Island. Featuring the BATMOBILE, BATWING, and tons of other nice features, the Batcave Outpost allows fans to call the BATCAVE their own home within Home.
The PlayStation3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum unlocks the Batman: Arkham Asylum Batcave Outpost in PlayStation Home.
Check out the trailer…. HOLY PS3 EXCLUSIVITY!

I would like to say thank you for what is probably the most smooth, fun and polished game i have played on the playstaion since I bought it back in early 2007.
The graphics, sound and gameplay are great, and the game is challenging enough without being frustratingly hard.
10/10

I note you stated that “the Batcave Outpost is a faithful recreation of the Batcave under Arkham Island. Featuring the BATMOBILE, BATWING, and tons of other nice features”
What nice features would they be then?
Dont get me wrong I like the space. But all I see is the display cases for the Batarng, Batman Suit and Grappel Gun, 3 items does not constitute tons really. Also of note that the monitor to the right of the Batarang in the US hHome displays a trailer for the aforementioned “Play as the Joker” but it does not play in the EU Version. I havent tested it ont he Japan or Hong Kong version yet.
However apart from that slight mix up Its a very good game (I am not a Batman fan really) but the game is quality and the Batcave outpost was a real suprise and the DLC Exclusive is damn good although I havent used it yet.
Tt would have been good to provide the Figurine trophies from with in the game as a Home object after achieving them with in game. Its such a shame that this oppotunity was lost.
Overall a very good game.

Thanks for the comment. I was indeed referring to the Batsuit, the Batmobile, the Batwing, the Batarang, and Grapnel Gun that you can check out along with the screens. So perhaps ‘tons’ wasn’t the right word exactly, but the fact it’s free is a pretty cool feature.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the game and thanks for your suggestion.

Finally a developer other than Capcom understands. Owning the game actually unlocks content inside Home. Usually you see people walking around with Reaper and Helghast costumes who have never played Killzone or InFamous. While Platinum holders who’ve bought the game get nothing.
So this just unlocks for inserting the game? There will be people sad enough just to rent this for the Home content. Have a look on the Official forum if you don’t believe me. You should have tied it into one of the trophies, I want to earn rewards and have them mean something.

I’m not entirely sure, but I’ll ask for you.

@herepoler
I see no reason why it shouldnt. It works on my US account, so If you have use the EU Home I see no problem.

The game is indeed awesome, perfectly balanced gameplay, great gfx, Joker amost steals the show with all the quips.
The Joker DLC and Batcave are icing on an aready delicious cake, but i was a little disappointed by the Batcave, not entirely faithful to the game and it seems strange to watch a trailer for a game you’ve just bought. I’m intrigued by your ‘tons of other nice features’ comment, is this stuff that will be added later?
Anyway, it’s no biggie as the game ROCKS!

Thanks for the post. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the game. There’s some more DLC on the horizon, keep an eye on the Official Forum.
The features are the Batsuit, the Batmobile, the Batwing, the Bataran and Grapnel Gun along with the screens. At least it’s free

Yes Keir, I remember you!!! Thank you for keeping the promise of giving us the TR:U trophy patch! Any chance the the next Tomb Raider will be as good as Batman now that Square Enix is in charge? And what about Crystal Tools? Will be adopted by you guys as well? Last but not least… It would be GREAT to have the Soul Reaven back in the PS3!!!!
Posted on 1 September, 2009 at 10:43 am by Keir Edmonds
Huzzah!
Hiya
Yeah, I’m pleased we (eventually) got that Trophy patch out for PS3′ers, thanks for remembering.
There’s no news on TR at the moment I’m afraid but it will of course be dripping in awesomesauce!

Bought this game today. Dipped slightly into it but I’m waiting with the main course until tomorrow (when I acquire my PS3 Slim). Introduction seem to promise great things (and I was surprised the demo wasn’t the beginning).

Pre-ordered Batman Collectors Edition months ago and has yet to arrive. Am now drooling to play this game. Did not even download the demo as I want to be surprised. Having the Batcave as my Home space sounds awesome and look forward to future content. Go make AA2 if the reviews and comments left here are anything to go by.

Cool added extra, I’ll be sure to visit Home and unlock it – I’m loving the game so far, and I’m not even a comic book fan! You guys have really done an amazing job on it, it’s refreshing that a developer has put real effort into delivering a very polished and complete game full of nice little touches, rather than just doing a quick licence cash in on a tight deadline and basing it of the movie or something. It reminds me of a 1st party title in terms of it’s quality…
Hope there’ll be more DLC for this title in the future (not just Challenge maps but additional story).
Posted on 1 September, 2009 at 10:45 am by Keir Edmonds
Thanks for the comment. The Rocksteady guys worked on this for a loong time and it’s true that you can see the love they put into shining through at every turn.
There is some DLC planned, so keep your eyes peeled!

Completed this earlier today and I have to say it was absolutely excellent. It was dripping with quality. There was so much detail as well. You could tell a lot of time had gone into it. It was a pleasure to play. I’m playing it through a second time and I’m still noticing new things.
The only let down was the last boss (considering how brilliant the rest of the game was it wasn’t very inventive, or in character). Also, the lip syncing was a bit off. Both those issues were absolutely minor though. Definitely one of my GOTY and a game I won’t forget.
I loved getting all the riddles and the Spirit of Arkham tablets.
Also a massive thumbs up for Arkham’s constantly changing environment. I don’t remember having seen detail like that since Chrono Trigger. Massive well done.
I’m already eagerly awaiting the next time the dark knight has an outing.
Posted on 1 September, 2009 at 10:48 am by Keir Edmonds
Thanks for the comment and glad to hear you’re go back for a second trip!
The Rocksteady guys certainly did put crazy amounts of detail and passion in there… as for the lip syncing I heard a rumour they were watching a lot of Bruce Lee films during development so perhaps that had an effect (kidding
)

I have bought the Collectors Edition and I love this game. well done Rocksteady. Though, I think they could have done more about the bat cave. Put in some fun mini games or something so I and my friends can have something to do. just an idea if this happens again in other games.
To SONY and the Marketing team. make more things like this in other games. More great exclusive deal whit multi plat games and add HOME integration like this again. Great way to promote the PS3 brand and HOME. Hope you guys/girls at SONY continue to do this whit allot of more games. PLZ!

Nice little area. I enjoyed walking around and taking a look at the three or four things in there. After that though, there was nothing more to do or look at.
It’s strange to watch the trailer when you have to have already played the game to access the area.
Be nice if they can add an update or two to it as time goes on and they give us the DLC that’s supposedly on it’s way.

I don’t have AA yet, but as I love stealth games, I’ll probably get it eventually.
I just wanted to say that I hope other developers follow your lead and create more and more integration between Home and retail games (e.g., Home spaces, costumes, etc. which come on-disc). My hope is that eventually we will put the disc into our PS3s and a Home icon will appear on the XMB (in addition to the normal game icon); selecting the Home icon will send us directly to the game’s Home space, which will also serve as the game’s main menu and a fully-featured lobby system for online games (standard 2D menus and lobbies would also be available).

this has to be one of the best games on ps3, up there with infamous and killzone 2.
its true, if you put allot of time and hard work into something it shows.
by the way the joker has the best one liners ive ever heard, i had to stop my sides from splitting after that “should be concidered costumed and dangerous” line.
ive allways loved the jokers sense of humor and its portrayed perfectly in this game, congratz on a job well done.

wow, what a very nice game. good & very addicting gameplay and graphics are “holy moleys” even if this game is a multiplatform…..
u guys put real hardwork on this game *gives a hi5*
but what im wondering right now…..
did u guys put “extra add-ons” to the ps3 bcause the fact that bluray has higher memory capacity than dvd? so u guys can use up more memory spaces on the bluray format of the game??

Hi Mr Edmonds,
First off, I would like to congratulate the team at Rocksteady & Eidos for a fantastic game that is on the same level as the what ‘The Dark Knight’ was to alot of fans.
I have a small issue & am hoping you can shed some light on this. I recently purchased the game from the USA while abroad, & when returning to London, England, I downloaded the Joker DLC for the game on my PS3, but when I play the challenge maps, I cannot select the Joker. Is there something that I am doing wrong, or does DLC in europe not work with games purchased in the USA?
I thought that all games for the PS3 were region free, with also the DLC being able to work no matter where downloaded or located?
Many thanks sir
