As for the new Platinum games – a good thing for the Slim buyers, I guess, although the covers are ugly as a dragon’s butt.

i would pick resistance 2 but i’ve head that there are pretty big problems with the servers aka joining ranked games etc…

All right around the release of the PS3 Slim, too. New European PS3 users should love these! Especially Motorstorm and MGS4

@chrysus – all those games were available in my local stores for £20 within a day or two of the slim console launch. in fact most of those stores are selling the non-platinum cover versions at the platinum price (at least for KZ2 and R2).

@instantnoodlez – i’ve never had any problems with the R2 servers, except for a couple of times when it couldn’t get enough players to balance the 60-player game. but usually it runs smooth, but i think the co-op is a bit more fun – mostly because i suck at R2 multiplayer. my main problem is that there seems to be so few europeans left playing the game..

I got a couple of PSP Go questions.

I wanna know what’s happening on the UMD to Download exchange programme.

I also wanna know if I can download maps from the store and now that the PSP has Bluetooth, can I pair it up to a Bluetooth GPS Unit for it to work? I hate the ugly PSP GPS unit, and would be ideal if it could pair up to any NMEA bluetooth GPS unit.

heh, thore shouldn’t be the final designs.
I though that all the new games will loose that horrid Spidey font spine and use the beloved new PS3 logo layout.
And please, somone tell the designers to use the RED layout like the US platinums, those yellow one are simply ugly.

I’m actually quite interested in some of the these games now. I need to fill in this horrible gap until the big guns come out towards the end of the year so I think I could pick some of these up.

I love the way the sparklies on the XMB jump when you launch a game, and how the games now boot 3 seconds quicker now the PS3 logo sequence has been removed.

Good range of games.
I already have the ones of those that I’d like though, but good for people who don’t yet! I’d urge them to hunt down the copies with original box art than the terribly ugly platinum boxes though unless they’re the sort that don’t give a monkey’s.

apart from the quite horride yellow casing that the Platinum games have (hopefully whoever designed those were taken into Killzone and shot repeatedly, right? ), all quality games… and MGS4 too :p (ok MGO rocked at least ).

Does it really matter what the Platinum boxes look like?

Most people are capable of reading game previews/reviews before purchasing a game, it would be a bit stupid to judge a game by its cover. The amount of rubbish that some fellow PS3 owners have been posting here is starting to make me feel embarrassed to be part of the PS3 world.

Bottom line is those four Platinum games are all top-notch products, the style of the boxes isn’t going to change that.

I have MGS4 on my shelf and not played it, as I know I will have to play it again when trophies come out, and I ‘aint got time for that. Focusing on games that do have trophies.

I also have all this titles, but im glad about it, because when a game becomes platinum i always think: oh no my god!! why this yellow?

I don’t like my games with this platinum style, i think it couldn’t be a worst design.

the cover doesn’t really bother me, not when it means i can save money on a game.
but one option for these titles might be a reversible cover, the platinum yellow cover on one side and something that is more like the original cover on the other, you’d have to still have the platinum logo there pretty big or some unscrupulous stores might try to sell them full price, but if you tie it in with the original design it should look ok still.
i guess it’s too late to change the cover to a more platinum like colour instead of yellow so a reversible cover could be a good idea.
i’m sure i’ve seen dvds and games that have done that before.

I am a big fan of platinum titles just don’t like the difference in boxes and covers. I do have issue with pricing though for example I live in the Netherlands and pay with € when I convert:

€ 29.99 to £ 19.99 I would get £ 24,13 and the other way around this means.

£ 19.99 converted to € means the people living in countries that pay with the € should be paying: € 21,06.. SCEE this right here is a € 8 difference.

A total rip off if you ask me.. could you please look in to this issue it is just not fair to us € paying countries.

I would like to recomend Killzone 2 if somebody have to select one,
online and offline mode are great, on graphics is the best game on by the moment.

i luv the feature of the K2 website too and hopefully they will push out some new content. its a shame they didnt make more noise about some of the feature like how to have custom soundtracks when playing games online etc. only gripe with K2 is not direct to youtube recording. more PS3 games need this and just think of the free PR. reckon if K2 had it alot less people would still be playing COD4 as youtube would be full of K2 videos instead of COD4 vids. remember Sony youtube videos = free advertising.

Unfortunatly they don’t care, US and UK will always be the “my baby” countries for sony, will always have games/accessories cheaper then Europe in general. You see, UK is being treated as an continent and not as an european country as they are. It’s not my fault, our fault European countries, that UK didn’t wanted to change their currency.

Sony, if you wanna stop with the Import, price your stuff correctly for ALL regions/countries, stop being so gredy and ‘steel’ from Europeans pockets. Oh, and please don’t give that old story of “different tax rates” bla bla bla as an excuse.

Quick questio but how much does a standard PS3 game retail for in €?

OK I see it’s around €60 so cut the price in half and you get €30… seems that’s their reason.

You can pick up Killzone 2 Platinum for €25 on Amazon right now though which is roughly £22.

See look how many people are complaining at the cases of platinum.
I don’t know how much it would cost, but I bet I’m not the only person whos never going to buy a platinum because of it.
You don’t even have to design a new case, just use the americans amazing blood red cases and replace the words “greatest hits” with “platinum”.
PLEASE! Tell someone important at SCEE that we’re not happy with them.

What are you talking about? Of course they’ll cost no more than £19.99. Have you ever seen a Platinum range game retailing any higher than that? No? Didn’t think so.

I cannot wait to see the answers to our questions today.
I just hope that they are our questions and not those that the SCEE marketing/management team have cobbled together to try and appease the masses and cover up firmware3.0gate with smoke and mirrors.

To all complaining about the cases…. this is called marketing, they have to look cheap and they have to stand out on the shelf of a gaming store. The people buying platinum are not the type of people who are intrested in the look of the case.

A friend of mine bought MotorStorm Pacific Rift Platinum for £15 at Zavvi, but I was surprised he had to download 650MB of patches though! Is there some specific reason why the latest version of the game isn’t included on the Platinum disc? Is it because it would need to be reapproved as a different title, or is it just too difficult to get the game to patch off the disc rather than downloading the update?

Also for people complaining about ugly boxart – isn’t that sort of the point? They need to stand out and be instantly recognised as cheap titles, if people like the game enough to be concerned about the boxart they should buy the title at full price.

For me it is a good trade off between buying the title at full price and buying it on platinum – yes you could wait and get a cheap re-release, but the compromise is you get big yellow budget bin stripes on it!

Out of interest, having never owned a PS3 Platinum title, are the discs still plain with just the name printed in black? I remember on the original Platinum range the printed artwork was removed from the discs, and they were just plain with the game name printed on. Is that still the case? I assume it’s to keep production costs down to reflect the reduced price.
