in any case, my points were : try to make the games platinum faster, so the game isn’t dead (multiplayer) by the time people get it platinum, plus it’ll just sell more copies in general, so everybody wins..

secondly : the covers..why are the platinum covers so disgustingly ugly (and I know there’s a lot of people who think so)..some people suggest you guys might even do it just so we would get the original (more expensive) version of the game :d Just so we wouldn’t have to get it with the ugly cover.. I mean c’mon, grey and yellow :s It’s just ugly..make them look more like the original see-through boxes or use more mature colors like black and grey?

regarding pricing of games – there seems to be fixed price points which are £40-45 (UK), $60-65 (US), €60-65 (EU). this actually makes some sense economically, for what currency could you set the fixed price and vary everybody else?. it would be madness. set it in $US and the UK/EU would vary all the time. set it in pounds, and the US price would be all over the place (it would have varied from $85 to $55 to $75 in less than 12 months) which be very annoying to consumers. these price points are common to all the publishers, EA, activision, konami, ubisoft, etc. not just sony. for inflationary measures, it’s not good to let prices wander up and down erratically. the UK has been getting shafted on prices for years, so i don’t really feel much sympathy. at the time of the PS3 launch £40 was more than €60 and way more than $60, we’re just getting some benefit from a weaker pound at the minute. however, some reckon the £55 price point for MW2 could be a market tester to see how it reacts (my guess is badly, probably not for MW2, but certainly for other titles) as a prelude to higher prices in 2010. another consideration is that the UK has the lowest sales tax in europe (it differs by 10% compared to some countries).

ya them yellow boxes are horrid, great games & i already have them, but if i didnt id rather buy second hand ones with pics on the disc and a nicer looking box, you should do away with the yellow and just slap a silver\platinum border round the edges

Lots of things good and bad with the 3.0 update, so i wont go on about what other people are saying. but what i will suggest is this!!!:

The ONE thing I want from the XMB (and have wanted since launch) is the option to GROUP MY FRIENDS LIST…I have lots of friends/different clans/teams, and grouping would make life a lot easier!!! we can group music and videos so why not friends?!?!? if this is possible already then please tell me, if not, then can you add the option in 3.01 please!

A friend of mine bought MotorStorm Pacific Rift Platinum for £15 at Zavvi, but I was surprised he had to download 650MB of patches though! Is there some specific reason why the latest version of the game isn’t included on the Platinum disc? Is it because it would need to be reapproved as a different title, or is it just too difficult to get the game to patch off the disc rather than downloading the update?

Also for people complaining about ugly boxart – isn’t that sort of the point? They need to stand out and be instantly recognised as cheap titles, if people like the game enough to be concerned about the boxart they should buy the title at full price.

For me it is a good trade off between buying the title at full price and buying it on platinum – yes you could wait and get a cheap re-release, but the compromise is you get big yellow budget bin stripes on it!

Out of interest, having never owned a PS3 Platinum title, are the discs still plain with just the name printed in black? I remember on the original Platinum range the printed artwork was removed from the discs, and they were just plain with the game name printed on. Is that still the case? I assume it’s to keep production costs down to reflect the reduced price.

To all complaining about the cases…. this is called marketing, they have to look cheap and they have to stand out on the shelf of a gaming store. The people buying platinum are not the type of people who are intrested in the look of the case.

But yeah, they look ugly
