Hi everyone, PSP (PlayStation Portable) firmware update (v6.00) will be available soon. This is a minor update, but here’s quick head’s up on what to expect.
- For those of you looking to customize your XMB, a few new colors will be added under the Theme Settings.
- A security patch has been added.
- [Network Update] has been renamed as [System Update].
As always, we look forward to reading your feedback.

Adam,
Thanks for the update for most any update is good; for the minority any update is bad.
I did notice that on the PSPgo there was a clock on the interface will this be coming to the older PSPs?

The only feature that I’d really like added to my PSP would be for the MP3 player to store play counts on my memory stick.
That way I could use my PSP with Last.fm.
Seriously, that’s all I want!

While updating my PSP, I just noticed that the first line said –>
“Games can now be grouped and displayed in folders based on their expire date under [Game]”
Are you guys bringing in Game Rentals soon?

The XMB now seem to cache all game icons so it feels much better/faster to browse around in it.
Nice work!

I wonder why the Badman demo requires 5.50 firmware since US version only requires 5.0?

Nice to have more colours, not a very exciting update though.
Oh well at least you haven’t wrecked the PSP’s XMB unlike its big brother… I’m grateful for that much!

Yet another blog post, yet another SONY bashing. People on here seem to love to complain. Get a grip people.
I am happy with my PSP, I will be buying a PSP Go, and there is nothing to complain about.
Life is good.

A bit disappointing, if you ask me. A major release should be just that: major.
Yet all your “major” (and minor) changes are “security fixes” and “increased playability of content”.
As a costumer, I think you’re only paying attention to piracy. Not ending it, juts giving it more visibility. Do you want to stop it? Then release demos more often, firmware updates (worth updating) more often, American prices…
I don’t see Microsoft complaining. And they actually pay developers to make the games, so they’re the ones losing money…
But of course, I’m “just a costumer”, not a market research specialist. I think, however, that it’s not market research specialists who buy and own PSPs.
I’m not going to buy the PSP Go: every digital release costs MORE than the physical game. And in Portugal, those are already expensive. I can only import them from UK, really. I import them and cry like a little girl, looking at American prices, but I do import them -_-
(I don’t buy them from America because of the taxes, sadly)

Update is UP. There is one other “feature” listed upon installing the update:
“Games can now be grouped and displayed in folders based on their expire date under [Game]”
No idea which PSP games have an expire date.

It’s a minor update alright, so minor it’s hardly worth mentioning. How about more firmware to allow access to more sites, view more types of moviefiles and have a regular update on the Flash player. Seriously, those thing update all the time. Within a month the Flash 8 player you provided was useless.
How about more dynamic picture viewing settings, or a pdf reader?
That’s just the console itself, the games available leave alot to be desired. The Nintendo DS has hundreds of games to choose from and you’re bound the to find something good each month. PSP owners would count themselves lucky if you release more than 2games a month, which seems to be the average. We’d think we won the lottery if the games happened to be good. Best out just recently, Final Fantasy Dissidia, is fun and it has longevity. The game before that was Patapon2, a whole 8 month period of useless, easy to finish crap. Since the release of the PSP it has been badly represented in all areas. All your focus is really on the PS3, the PSP GO is just a newer look model which will suffer the same mediocre supply of games and firmware “updates”.

x.00 update to add new theme colours and a menu rename, hahahaha!

I was wondering why the blog didn’t mention the game folder sorting, now I’ve updated I see why, its a terrible feature. Here I was thinking you’d get some freedom like PS3 to sort them by PS1 Classic, PSP Game, Demo etc or even make you’re own folders but nope, all you get is 3 folders ‘With expire date’ ‘Expired’ and ‘Without expire date’… and right now everything just falls straight into ‘Without expire date’, wow what wonderful sorting… and whats with this idea anyway? Are we going to be renting PSP games from the playstation network soon, how ridiculous.

Auto update when your battery’s charged up to a safe level is a nice feature of a previous update I’m just noticing now.

Please, people, it’s just a firmware update. Already we have the usual selection of unnecessarily irate fans whinging about Sony doing everything wrong AGAIN, and ignoring their customers AGAIN. Take a chill pill.
I totally agree with Grauwsaur.
Oh, and btw, firmware 3.0 for PS3 really ISN’T that bad, bar the dodgy grey boxes. Everyone banging on about how HUGE the text and icons are…yeah about 1 pt bigger.

I think the reason it’s called FW6.0 is because it’s the first firmware which supports the PSP Go! Now for the old systems that won’t change a lot, but FW6.0 is seen as the introduction of the PSP Go! into the firmware… And that on itself is quite a major thing…

I just installed the update – my demo for Numblast had expired, so that was listed in the ‘expired’ section when I sorted my apps on the memory stick.
I’ve also noticed that now I can’t download the Dissidia demo from the store – it fails with ‘Installation failed.’
Anyone else have this problem?
So far, I like this update – the faster loading of application icons from memory stick makes it worthwhile in itself!!

6.00 – Epic Fail…
3.00 – Epic Fail…
C’mon Sony, what you doing? I don’t understand…:(

- Can’t seem to find the new colors
- Don’t like the new maps in the music section, you see less of an album’s front cover
- Still miss the ability to order your games on album, like on the PS3.

Sony continues to shoot itself in the foot. Could this seriouslly not of waited and just got added to a more impressive future patch?
Releasing many patches with ridiculous updates doesn’t fool us into thinking it is progress. Quality remember, stop wasting our time and taking us for fools.

Why does everyone complain so much about these updates? People seem to expect something major every single time. All these updates are free, on the DS you have to buy a new system to get any updates. I barely look at the comments on this blog since pretty much every article is filled with spoiled brats whining.

If this is a jump to 6.00 with very few features, it must mean that there is a lot of background changes with the security patches. Hopefuly with the hackers out the way the PSP will become more viable for devs. More games = best update yet?

You should already know, that’s because the firmware of the psp bring practically nothing.
It’s that long since run out of space in flash memory (32MB) PSP.
So do not expect anything great for the future.

Wow. 6.00 – isn’t that supposed to be a major update? If you don’t have anything useful to add now just leave it below 6.00.

Thanks for not adding the new colour’s to PSP 1000 models.
Can I have a reason why or are you gonna ignore my question like every other question I’ve posted on this blog?

@77 well your flagged as an american so why are you here anyways, if you do know our constant whine is almost substanciated like the bad ps store we have which failed to get into everybody brain after FW 3.00 faq came out, sure sometime we critice the fonts and whatnot but its more from the lack of support in our side then anything else.
Oh and people 6.00 is the first of psp go firmwares hence the round number remember that when round numbers come out it means either a big update or the release of new hardware, now the question is: why buy a psp go if there is almost none items in ps store…

if this is what the 6.0 ( Major Update ) has to offer, then i’m really not looking forward to what the 6.0 will do for PS3, you need to fire whoever is working on the firmware programming and give some fresh minds a crack at it, it seems to be going nowhere besides patching holes, oh and let’s throw in a few extra colors for the themes to keep the kids happy. lol

@ SiRobertson – “it’s difficult to tell whether you’re extremely conceited or incredibly spoilt”
Agreed. Though you missed out “incredibly stupid”.
These people clearly have no idea how things work. Major firmware updates don’t have to introduce major features for the users – there can also be major changes behind the scenes.
And while I can understand that most people may be a little disappointed, constructive criticism is always better than a rant. If you’re not happy, at least attempt to make some recommendations on what you’d like to see, rather than useless comments like “WOW IS THAT IT” or “EPIC FILL” (sic).

@83 I didn’t realise I was logged in on my US account. So yes, I do know what the EU store is like since it’s my primary one, but it’s really not as bad as people make out. Stuff like MGS not being on the store is entirely down to the publisher, and it irks me seeing people getting angry at Mike every week on the store update posts. As far as first party content is concerned we get it at the same time pretty much all the time.
If you so desperately need something on the US store then make a US account, it’s not hard and a better solution than just crying over it week in week out.

Ah, good old PS Blog comments… final and clinching proof that the general population gets dumber by the day.
Version numbers to me were always something for internal development usage. I must have missed the point when their meaning became so much more.
To those people using terms such as “epic fail” for anything other than ironic humor, please get out of the gene pool.
To the few people on here with valid points and sensible things to say (you know who you are) – keep fighting the good fight guys. I suspect there are a lot out there like myself who simply don’t have the patience to deal with it any more. Come to think of it, with the exception of Apnomis I don’t spot many of the old TS lot on here these days… although that might simply be that I don’t recognise their PSN IDs.
Back on topic – cheers for the heads up Mr Grant. Be sure to ignore 80% of incoming comments.

sony dont really understand what a full version number means.
now for a quick enlightenment, a full version change has ment for everyone else, something happening, even for windows, they changed the skin, still you can see there is a change
