Hello everybody!
Hope you are enjoying Fat Princess and your game experience got even better after the release of the patch update (see my previous post on this).
I have good news for all fans of the “cuddly” royalty. We are working on new Fat Princess content to come soon on the Store!
Do you want to know more about this new DLC?
Check out this interview between the US Blog’s Jeff Rubenstein and Craig Leigh from Titan and let me know what you think!
Hope you enjoy it
Chunky greetings!
Cristy
You might’ve already read about the newly-announced Fat Princess DLC level and future updates on the way, but screenshots can only do so much for you, am I right?
Last week at PAX, I ran into Chris Millar and Craig Leigh from Titan, who demoed the addition to this top-selling PSN game on camera. Unfortunately, the folks at Penny Arcade are creatures of the night, and it was super dark (you’ll see that in a minute) in the Washington State Convention & Trade Center. Fortunately, Titan scraped together some hi-def footage of the new level, which we edited on top of the walkthrough this morning. Technology, she is wonderful.
So take a look at New Pork in action, and if you miss what Chris and Craig look like, you can see them here

Yes, I know your questions: When can you play this? How much might it cost? I asked, and there are no concrete details at this time. When there are, you’ll learn them here.

When I try to update Fat Princess on my PS3 slim with firmware 3.0 the console restart itself. No other game have done this when updated.

Hi Lirion,
That’s strange,
have you tried to delete the file and download it again …?

I wanted to try a demo and after I saw three times “connection error” I gave up on this game.

Hope its more than just a new map guys… New maps are cool and all but I would much prefer a DLC pack with maps, new customisable stuff for your character and classes.
Eventually If you guys could make a 3v3 team mode and 4v4 that would be so cool too. Instead of the same back and forth gameplay it would mix things up being in a smaller team and 3 other princesses to capture.

I’d like to take the opportunity that the demo you released here was a bit “huh?”
At launch, it looks like you were running the game in an ultra-low resolution. Trying to go through the instructions on a SD tv was quite annoying – as there was this pop-in message in the bottom of the screen that was constantly overlapping with the instructions, making it unreadable. So I skipped the instructions and got in an online game, clueless.
Seemed to go alright from there on, untill I was greeted with a ‘lost connection with host’ message. Apparantly, it did find a new host and the game continued, but after about 2 minutes I did find myself playing all by myself, everyone had vanished, without notice.
I’d like to point out that these experiences put me off from buying your product. Cheers.

Excellent. I’ve been really enjoying Fat Princess since it was released. Any new levels will be great, and I’m still anticipating the addition of new classes: Chef, Pirate and Ninja.

Any chance in doing 4 player split-screen off-line mode for Fat Princess?

Hello Carl,
all community feedback has been considered including split screen multiplayer.
We will keep you posted!

It’s a pretty solid team game, could do with a targeting system refinement. It’s so hard trying to complete the Gladiate arenas, mainly because trying to aim for specific units is a tiresome affair.

hmm thats wierd the level looks like the top right picture in the background picture that appears when u look at the game icon in the xmb if u get what i mean. so i’m thinking you already had this level done but have held it back to release it as extra dlc with extra cost and having said that there are two more level design pictures a snowy mount location and a colourful town if these two turn out to be the next lot of dlc then its very fishy

I think there needs to be more work done on networking before any DLC, game sits largely unplayed as it’s still a bit of a hit and miss experience. Puzzles me why there doesn’t seem to be any client side prediction, LAN game sure but not on the internet.
DLC looks cool tough.

I assume it will be free since the majority of us paid £15 for a game that didnt work properly for 4 days before getting patched and never went back to it again?

i like the new pork thing. is there any chance of increasing the player cap to cope with a big level like new prok as it can seem like forever when trying to find enemies Also is there anyway that when you search for games that the preference is to join games mostly populated instead of bots. keep up the good work on fat princess and id like to see a definately see a pirates vs ninja’s themed levels playing to each class strength. id also like to see the classes have more levels with more extra abilitys to add a different dynamic and a reward or power up kind of item depending on the type of classes would be kind of cool if it was implemented. keep it up TITAN.

Looks delicious!
Kudos on also getting a demo out, hopefully it will now persuade more to part with their money.
Still best PSN game this year, so keep cooking up those ideas!

Great, they’re seeling a map they had finished months before the game came out. (Look closely at old gameplay videos). Seriously, what the hell. Also, I don’t like this game. It’s far too reliant on luck over skill in my experience. So, this game can rot at the bottom of my downloaded games list.

Posted on 13 September, 2009 at 4:35 am by CloudStorm87
Hopefully it won’t cost anything more than £3. I think the map looks kinda plain compared the maps currently in the game. Obviously it’s big and best suited for large number of players.
I really hope they release another patch soon to fix the constant disconnection issues and lag I have to endure in nearly every other match. I also hope they actually do something to improve the ranking system. Right now, they are useless to me. I have no real incentive to reach a higher rank only to see it disappear if I can’t play the game for a few days like all the other addicted players out there. I think unlocking new abilities for ranking up, similar to Killzone 2, would be really awesome and give people more reason to play.
Anyway, can’t wait for the DLC.

I won’t come back to this game until some neccesities are put in order like server lists and a smoother online experience (this and LBP are the only two online games I have issues with, probably due to P2P). Right now it feels like a waste of 15 euros.

Posted on 13 September, 2009 at 10:03 am by Dannehkins
Axis, I am interested actually as to what issues you are having online? There was a patch update quite a while I go I believe which made every thing rather smooth. I can now jump straight into a game without any hassle whatsoever.
It looks like an interesting map. I hope the price tag isn’t horrendously steep, because what I’m effectively seeing is just one map. That’s not to discredit the team though, I’m happy to see extra downloadable content and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for New Pork.
Just a quick question, are Titan Studies contemplating releasing new classes in future downloadable add ons?

I would buy it if the price was lower they should join the map and the game for a cheaper price

was that hand pointing to a ninja at 2:00 in the vid?
I do regret buying this, i said i wouldnt coz of the price, but i gave in and now realise its just gonna get milked for the dlc so what should be a £10 game will end up costing £20+ which it really isnt worth, it deffo needs some kind of balancing as at the moment its just a big mess, games take forever and end up feeling like a chore, in fact the only things i like about it are the taunts and little characters are quite amuseing, good idea just poorly executed, had this been on disc i could have swapped it for something else, wont be buying anything else of the psn unless it comes with demo from now on unless there games i already know, Eg:Bomberman .. where is that btw?

No euro price drop, no buy.
This game is gonna get “dlc-milked”, i know it, so better to wait the price drop.

Cool. Now make it a fair price instead of milking Europe for cah and i’ll think about buying it. For as logn as you persist to stick an extra £2 on this game compared to other $15 games, i wont buy it. And any other game in the same situation

Couldn’t agree more. I tried the demo and I liked it but knowing that US got the exactly same game for a lower price makes me not want to buy it.
I believe in justice and treating the customers equal. That is not that case here.

Any chance of a price cut of the original game (or bundle price) to go with this new DLC? I still maintain that £11.99 is too much for this game and I shall not be purchasing until it’s pricing is addressed. Unfortunately the recent demo did nothing to change my mind on this either.
I hope Sony will learn from this that as soon as you price your download over £10 you get into very muddy water and what might have otherwise been an impulse purchase becomes overpriced – regardless of exchange rates the psychology of UK pricing patterns dictates that more people will buy things at £9.99 than they would at £11.99 (for a start people that use PSN cards would have to buy £40 worth to get 2 games!!!). It’s the same with Rock Band tracks, people are more inclined to buy them at 99p than they would be at £1.19…
The problem is quite simple, SCEE at some point decided to stop basing the UK pricing off the exchange rate between $ and £, and instead convert down from the € to £, at a rate of 1.25 which given tax differences isn’t unreasonable – unfortunately the exchange rate between € and $ is a ridiculous 1:1 conversion, so because SCEE rip us off with Euro pricing, the discrepancy filters down to the UK too.

It is quite simple how the Exchange Rate convesions should work, and it baffles me why SCEE are dragging their heels with this issue – Microsoft, by virtue of their points system have managed this for years.
Current PSN prices covert as follows:
$14.99 > 1.00 > €14.99 > 1.25 > £11.99
What they should do, based on approximate hedged exchange rates taking into account any possible tax differences or local standards:
$14.99 > 1.20 > €12.49 > 1.25 > £9.99
It’s simple, it’s fair, it will stimulate sales, and it will keep your customers happy – this is digitally distributed content in a global age, the days of pulling the wool over the eyes of your customers when it comes to pricing are over…
It applies to other US pricing levels just as effectly too (rounded slightly for cosmetic purposes!):
$9.99 > 1.20 > €8.49 > 1.25 > £6.99
$4.99 > 1.20 > €4.49 > 1.25 > £3.49
$2.99 > 1.20 > €2.49 > 1.25 > £1.99
$1.99 > 1.20 > €1.49 > 1.25 > £0.99
$0.99 > 1.20 > €0.79 > 1.25 > £0.69
PLEASE STOP RIPPING US OFF SCEE!

LOL stop whining about the price… 2 pounds is hardly worth boycotting this awesome game! Anyway we always have payed more than america for like everything…
38
Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 10:56 am by Apnomis
Oh and one more (which I haven’t rounded), for full games like Warhawk or GT5:Prologue…
$29.99 > 1.20 > €24.99 > 1.25 > £19.99
It makes so much sense and is so painfully obvious what possible reason have SCEE got for not adopting this method other than blatant disregard for their customers and price gouging?

Just out of curiosity, why do some people believe that games from the PlayStation Store should all be sold at bargain-basement prices?
Games sold digitally don’t need to be packaged or transported around the World, so those costs can be deducted from the price of the games, but the costs related to server maintenance and bandwidth usage need to be added to the games. Overall, a game sold via the PlayStation Store should cost less than the same game sold via a brick-n-mortal store, but the price difference won’t be huge.
40
Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 1:12 pm by Apnomis
@ SiRobertson – we don’t want bargain basement prices, we want FAIR prices. You said yourself there is no packaging/distribution etc, so why should someone in the US get the same content for cheaper than someone in the UK?
What I object to is how SCEE think they can just replace the $ with a € and no one will notice! It may only be a few £’s per title but it soon adds up. On multiplatform releases for example something that costs £6.80 on XBLA costs £7.99 on the UK PSN store – this despite both releases costing the same $9.99 in the US.
All we want is a fixed, transparent and FAIR exchange rate system in place that means everyone Worldwide pays the same equivalent price – the reason both Nintendo and Microsoft use points systems. Sony made out that using actual currencies instead of points was in the interest of the consumer – but it certainly isn’t looking that way from where I’m sitting!
If Fat Princess was a full retail quality game and was priced at $29.99 I wouldn’t mind as long as in Europe it was €24.99 and UK £19.99, but what happens is Europe end up paying €29.99 and the UK £24.99! It’s not about the cost of the game, it’s about the conversion into local currency…

@36
I don’t have a clue what you’re complaining about! You think it’
s fair that you put 1€ = $1,20 and 1£ = €1,25??? Last time I checked 1€ = $1,40 and 1£ = 1,15€!!! So explain to me why do the UK people always get games a lot cheaper than the rest of Europe and still always complain!!
42
Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 3:04 pm by Apnomis
@ MatosPT, for the purposes of simple illustration I was working to an exchange rate that gave the same equivalent £ value on conversion as you get from MS Points.
To keep things simple I assumed a Europe wide VAT rate of 21%, and for the UK 15% – remember US pricing is pre-tax. So using your converstions…
$29.99 > 1.45 > €20.68 > 1.15 > £17.98
€20.68 + 21% Tax = approx €24.99
£17.99 + 15% Tax = approx £19.99
Give or take a few pence the result is the same.
The point is £ pricing appears to be converted down from € pricing, so a more accurate $-€ conversion, even with a more accurate €-£ conversion, will still be of benefit to UK consumers as well as Europe – we’re all on the same side on this issue remember!

@39.
I don’t believe that at all.
But when EA and Warner Bros (I think!) can sell Battlefield and Watchmen fr $15 and conver that to £9.99, but Sony sells Fat Princess for $15 and converts that to £11.99, something is wrong. And it sure aint EA and Warner!
