First of all, an apology. You might have been noticing an increasingly frequent and increasingly annoying amount of adverts in-between videos recently. This was due to a bug and was certainly not intentional and we have been working like dogs to fix it. We would never overload you with adverts like this and we apologise for any annoyance and also ask you to keep using the service (and tell your friends) as this has now been fixed.
Now to the fun stuff…
Since VidZone launched back in the summer of love 2009 (Wow time flies when you are having fun) we have been asking all of you to let us know what you think of the service. What you liked, what you hated, what you thought was good but needed improving what you thought was rubbish and needed getting rid of completely, what you loved so much that you can’t live without… etc. We have had teams of people compiling all correspondence from the various tweets and blogs and Facebook messages and worked out what you all wanted the most…
Long story short we have a major update for you that makes VidZone better than ever!!
Pre-roll advertising will be shown no more than once every 15 minutes – No more adverts after every video, guaranteed!
16:9 support, true full screen display – This means that if the video is shot in widescreen, it will display in its full widescreen glory on your TV.
Virtual Keyboard is now supported in Search – Use your external or the standard PlayStation virtual keyboard to type instead of scrolling through each letter.
Search is faster and improved – Faster searching and you are now able to search for special characters (ie you can now search for P!nk etc)
Start up time is reduced – No more waiting about to get partying!
Audio volume on music videos can now be normalised – Each video will play at the same volume meaning no more volume control surfing
PlayStation Network presence now shows the music video being watched in VidZone on the XMB™ friends list – Your friends will now know what you are watching so no more secret Celine Dion video viewing sessions!
Support for PlayStation Store purchases in Download menu – Videos will link to equivelant RockBand track in the PlayStation Store with more game/product links coming soon.
Default settings are now saved – If you have turned the clicker off, it will remember it for the next time you open VidZone.
Cache has been increased – VidZone will store more of your last viewed videos on the PlayStation’s hard drive so you don’t have to stream so much data.
Help screens are available in Settings menu – Having issues? Try the new help screens to answer your questions
Settings menu has been reordered – More logical ordering of the setting menu.
As well as a load of other little bug fixes to make your VidZone experience a much more pleasurable one.
So that’s what you have all been waiting for I think. Of course we will continue to update both content and the application until it is perfect but hopefully this will keep you happy until we update again.
We want you to keep suggesting improvements to the service so below are all the channels of communication for you to get requesting.
1. Reply to any blog entry that is posted here on http://blog.eu.playstation.com
2. Twitter us www.twitter.com/vidzone
3. Email us playstation@vidzone.tv
4. Facebook
For any problems you having with the service please e-mail ps-problems@vidzone.tv
That’s it I think, and this is me signing off once more. Let me know what you think and I will be back to write about more exciting stuff shortly.
Keep it real
Ben

Finally 16:9 support. Thank you guys, keep up the great work!
I wish there was some kind of SingStar integration. I don’t know how this should look like, but VidZone and SingStar feel like a perfect match to me.

Great update Ben, I noticed on Friday night that the adverts issue had sorted itself out for me.

Fantastic updates, slow search was really one of the things stopping me from using VidZone, vast improvements made. Keep up the good work.

Looking forward to trying this out when I get home tonight.

Great update, always loved the idea of Vidzone and it was only a lot of small bugs that stopped me from using it more, now this has been sorted I’m sure to be using it much more often!
One question, will this also add the ability to randomise playlists?
Cheers

Great update…but…I don’t have VidZone in my country
Ben, do you have any news when VidZone will spread to other countries (not the accurate date but maybe months or season)?

Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 3:41 pm by RingoSmith
Hello Ben
Can i ask, off topic. How can we suggest videos to be added to the playlist. As much as i like the current selection we could do with some more Videos in there( wont bore you with loads of names) but it would be nice to know where i could ask for certain vidoes to be added

Thank you for doing all this things.
16:9 Great and the support for the PS3 Remote and the PS3 Keyboard is a very good feature. It is one of the best Updates since this service has started.
But i have one Question. So on some Videos is this real 16:9 or do you zoom in the Videos because there could be some differenz between nativ 16:9 and zoom 4:3 Letterbox.
HD would be nice but you said it doesn’t make sense because only a small part of the productions are in HD now.
But an other Question deeling about Eric Prydz. Why i can’t hearing Panjoo. At this Videos there is the Yellow Danger Symbol. So was does this concret meening? License? USK? or exklusiv for UK and when why?
And it would be nice when Tiesto comes to Vidzone.
And at last could you make in Genre a Part for Elektro or House, or Trance, because i don’t know. When I wanted to search Armin Van Buren in the Dance Genre i don’t find him, so please make a Genre for Elektro it would be nice.

Now it just needs an HQ-Function for the Videos – available to choose in the settings – (and MADONNA-Videos) and VIDZONE will be the best Streaming Platform ever!

Been following vidzones progress as I wait for it to hit Sweden (any news on release dates for the countries you announced at gamescon btw?) and this is a quality update.
And as an avid Rock Band fan that store section linking to Rock Band track is nothing short of genious. Kudos!

Hi Almighty-Slayer
You can turn this off if you don’t want people seeing your deepest darkest music video secrets

You need to stop dragging your heels behind and release VidZone in all countries in Europe (Sweden!) now. And while you are at it release the video store. It’s been over a year since it was introduced in America.

WOW this is massive ! It sounds like you did a huge job. Most of the improvements are those I expected to get the service better than it is. Now we just need more majors involved to get more tracks … any news about that ? thank you and please Ben congrat the team.

Hi Ben, thanks for the update but i have to say we want native 16:9 support for all the videos.
I’ve tested a lot and some doesn’t match the screen or look in very poor quality, i hope you keep working on that.

Cool update. The only thing I think is wrong with Vidzone is no keyboard support and now we’re getting it, plus a load of other stuff. Great job!

Great update everything i wanted but one. the only over thing i want from vidzone now is the ability to listen to the music in game, now that would be sweet.

A simple question – does this update include support for the BluRay remote without having to alter the ‘port number’ its’ allocated to?

Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 4:24 pm by money_man
Great update.
A suqqestion for the next update would be the ability to save favorite searches. I like to check whether any more Weezer vids have been included. If I can save them as a favorite artist or search it would make checking a whole lot easier.

great update, well done & thanks guys!
i was really looking forward to this update (16:9 vid support, audio normalisation, virtual keyboard/better search function) but the XMB song display is great!
now all we need is some decent videos! haha
less celione dion types and more classics (i.e. madonna vids, green day, coldplay, daft punk, chemical bros, blur, the beatles, red hot chili peppers, white stripes etc)
also add more to the current artists i.e. more oasis vids, nirvana, the strokes. thanks and keep it up!

Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 4:36 pm by flora-16
adverts still seem a bit too frequent, approx every 4 vids for me

Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 4:37 pm by flora-16
also can you make the search so that you dont need to specify THE before a band name? I should be able to type “prodigy” aswell as “the prodigy” to find the band. thanks!

Posted on 14 September, 2009 at 4:50 pm by Apnomis
Wow that has got to be the best product update ever!!! You’ve addressed every minor quibble I had with the service – slow startup, lack of widescreen, lack of keyboard support, normalised volume level, and the adverts – and also added/fixed things I didn’t think of!
Limiting the ads to every 15 minutes is a genius idea, and was exactly the solution I was looking for – as someone who flicks through a lot of tracks having ads every X number of videos didn’t really work of me as I flick through so many.
You guys get a serious thumbs up from me and probably from every other VidZone user, you’ve listened to everything we’ve asked for and added it in a single update! For people without VidZone, this update would be equivalent to Sony adding cross-game invites, cross-game voice chat, and global in-game XMB music and internet support in the recent FW3.0 update – i.e. the Holy Grail of patches!!! lol

Ben,
my congratulations to you and your team. This is a great update but, more importantly, one can tell how passionate you are about your job.
Now if you could bring something by Ryuichi Sakamoto to Vidzone i’d be in heaven!

Do you know whem I search some artists… They come up in the search, but when I click their name, nothing is found. I’m from the UK. For example I search Juanes > It comes up with the name but no videos.
Is this to do with the language/country barrier?
