I’m incredibly pleased to be able to bring this post over to the European PlayStation Blog. Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 was one of my favourite games of last year and news that the PSP sequel is heading to the West is definitely very exciting. I’ll be doing my best to get some coverage of the game on the Blog next week at Tokyo Game Show. In the meantime, here’s what Sega of America‘s Valkyria Chronicles Community Lead, Aaron Webber, has to say about the game.
Hey all, and nice to meet you! I’m Aaron Webber, also known as RubyEclipse over on the SEGA Blogs, and I’m the community lead at SEGA of America for all things Valkyria Chronicles.
As of today, SEGA is proud to announce Valkyria Chronicles II – the sequel to the legendary PS3 epic – is coming to the West exclusively on the PSP! Join the battle once more in the next addition to the Valkyria franchise – created by the same team behind the original.
The year is 1937 EC.
Two years later, the ashes of the Second Europan war still glow in Gallia’s history. But even peace is a fragile happiness – and hearts that once fought side by side are not forever friends.
In the midst of this peace appears a group known as the Gallian Revolutionary Army, swearing to topple the current government – in a lightning fast coup, they arm themselves with the best of both Gallian technology and soldiers.
What was once a small but strong unified country is instantly plunged back onto the battlefield. But the day and age of the last war’s heroes is already fading out – with families to protect and children to raise, they are the ones who must now be protected. While numbers split and tensions rise, the spotlight shines to a handful of up-and-coming students at a Gallian Military Academy.
As civil war begins to rage across the country, morality and war clash with passion and ideals. But this time the distinction between blue and red is not so simple – nor will it ever be. Gallia once stood as a defiant beacon of hope against a giant empire… but can the country now defend against its own?
Valkyria Chronicles II will be arriving Summer 2010 – until then, you can follow all news Valkyria on the official Facebook and Twitter pages!
Finally, we’d like to give a special shout out to all the fans – those who put a fantastic game back into the spotlight, and continue to show their dedication and support for the series. This one goes out to all of you.

Totally agree with you man, looking at the rate of growing popularity plus the PS3 slim. I do not see why there cannot have another PS3 release. Yeah, I mean, PSP is fine; I can lead my squad on the go, but scale down graphic without sixaxis shock, feel much pieces missing.c’mon Sega, make my PS3 busy.

I would like to have kids eventually. And by that I mean, I’m tired of being kicked in the groin by game developers, Sega is just the latest in a long line of developers that treat their fans like crap.
When fans want a ‘sequel’ to a game, we want an actual sequel, with a good story line. Making a sequel on the PSP is exactly like making “Son of the Mask” without Jim Carrey. It doesn’t matter how much they say it’s a sequel, fans know the truth.
I won’t be buying the PSP version, even if they try to bribe me with a PS3 version, which I do want, very much so, but not enough to buy a sub-par game. The characters look laughable, and the story line seems rather weak. Battle system seems dumbed down, and of course the graphics seem horrid compared to the original. This is not the ‘sequel’ I’ve been waiting for, and wanting.
I do have to question Aaron Webber’s touch with the community if he believes fans are honestly “happy” about a PSP version, I know I for one was extremely let down, and felt it was a very unfitting end to a really good series. If/when Sony wises up, and gives the series the attention it deserve I’ll buy it with gusto, but I won’t be suckered into buying sub-par games.

@52 Super_sloth
Get over yourself…like seriously. It’s a VIDEOGAME for god’s sake.
& It’s the developer’s whom determine whether it’s a true sequel and not just a “dumbed” down PSP version.
Super_Sloth, I’d like to introduce you to Resistance Retribution,
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker/Portable Ops, Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7, God Of War Chains of Olympus, Daxter, Jak & Daxter The Lost Frontier, Motorstorm Arctic Edge, Wipeout Pulse/Pure, Ratchet & Clank Size Matters, Killzone Liberation,Little Big Planet, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Silent Hill Origins,3rd Birthday Parasite Eve, GTA Vice City/Liberty City stories,Final Fantasy Agito Xiii and Syphon Filter Logan’s Shadow/Broken Mirror.
All great and worthy SEQUELS or PREQUELS on the Handheld that DID NOT/DO NOT FEEL Like Dumbed down games. Perhaps you need to realize that a sequel on a mobile platform is totally possible. And is in no way a shaft to it’s loyal fans.
But most of all, you need to realize that ITS JUST A VIDEOGAME.
/end rant

You’re missing the point Ragnarok. Sega are turning their backs on their fans. You can’t just jump platforms like that. They might as well be making VC2 for the 360.
So what if it’s just a game. If Super_Sloth is a fan of the franchise and is [DELETED] off about getting treated like [DELETED] he doesn’t have justify that to you. And neither do I. Not everyone thinks the way you do, so get over yourself!
