Hi everyone,
I’m Olivier, I work for Nobilis as the product manager of Trine and I’m really happy to be able to tell you that it’s now available on the European PlayStation Store!
This long-expected innovative action / platform game that combines 2D gameplay with 3D graphics is finally here! Acclaimed by players throughout the world and designated as “Best E3 Downloadable Game” by Gamespot.
Three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil and the player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle.
Trine is balanced between action and puzzle solving sequences which are just fantastic to play. Thanks to an extensive use of physics, you’ll be able to solve puzzles in many different ways, whether you play alone by switching characters or alongside with a friend (up to 3 players simultaneously on the same system). Just take a peek at this trailer and you’ll get a sense of what I’m talking about!
For those of you who always on the hunt for trophies, rest assured! I’m thrilled to announce that Trine has full support for Trophies and also features a Platinum Trophy as the ultimate reward!
I realize that many of you have been waiting to get your hands on Trine for some time. I’d like to assure you all that we are deeply sorry about this delay. We worked really hard in order to give you the best experience possible playing Trine and we really hope you’ll enjoy it.
One more thing, don’t forget to get all the experience vials that you can pickup throughout the levels! With them you’ll be able to improve the abilities of your characters and become an even bigger threat to your enemies!
Trine is available for download today on the European PlayStation Store for: €19,99 and £15.99.

Same here, I was expecting £9.99 after the developer was saying its going to be 50% cheaper than on steam.
I even bought 2 x £20 top up cards, I wont be using them on this now
Think ill just get Warhawk instead and a few little games.
I think ill just go get it on PC. Will be 2 years before this drops to £10. GT5 Prologue is still £20 on PSN and £8 in shops and no sign of a price drop on that and its been out for a very ling time.

I hope we get this next week in the USA. About the game, it’s beautiful, deep, challenging, has replay value and offers a Platinum trop. I do think the pricing is worth it.

Arrrghh, I wanted this so much and had accepted the price of £16.99/€19.99, but someone decided to completely f*** Denmark over exchange rates. And now some of you are saying it’s £15.99?
By the rates of today £1=DKK8.35 and €1=DKK7.44. That means the danish price should be somewhere between DKK135.00 and DKK148.80. Let’s round it up and call it an even 150.00.
Anybody care to gues the danish price? Well it’s DKK199.00! That’s £23.83 or €26.75! So I’m holding off buying this until someone corrects the pricing error. Please reply to explain if this is a mistake in the danish pricing or it is the correct price.

The trophy icons are really dull. It’s just the standard trophies. That’s gotta be a record in laziness.

OH MY!!!!! We had Trine before USA….how can it be?
just joking, great game, this game is really worth 20 euros…i tried the demo on pc and felt in love with it. I just hope it will be possible a multiplayer game not-on-the-same-machine.

Hello Torence,
I’m glad you liked the game.
Concerning the online co-op mode, I’m afraid it won’t be implemented but your remarks are being noted and we will consider it if we ever work on a sequel

This is a retail standard (and length) game which even features a Platinum trophy – why should it be sold at the same price as some 5-minute puzzle games or retro fighting games?
I can’t believe people are complaining when PC owners have to pay £19.99 for it?!
£16.99 was a mistake (unless SCEE have the brass neck to change the ex-rates again in their favour) as the standard conversion from Euros to GBP on the store is 1.25, so €19.99/1.25=£15.99
Of course if this were on Xbox it would be 1600 MS Points and so convert to £13.60 using their ex-rate conversions, but that’s another story…
In the US, based on SCEE’s ridiculous 1:1 conversion of USD to Euros it will be $20, compared to the Steam price of $30 on Steam so it’s not half the price over there either.
Oh and one last thing, I too bought a PSN card to buy this – but that is because they were selling £20 cards for £15 online, so just like with retail games it’s now cheaper to shop around online…

Is there a demo for the PS3? If not, why not!!!
As for £16 for an online title that has no resale value, stuff that too.

Hello Capeview,
There is no demo for Trine at the moment but your remarks are being noted and we’re going to see if we can do it

Thank you for bring this fantastic game to PSN. I have played the first level and I say it was worth every penny even if it is €20. I don’t buy much off PSN but this was well worth the money and the wait.
I hope you will publish more game on PSN in the future.

Hello Lucreto,
Thanks for your kind words, i’m really happy that you’re enjoying Trine !
Have fun with the rest of the game!

Developers, give us more platform games like this! I hope platforms make a comeback!
Regarding this game, i think it’s great and if it’s a full-length game i can even accept the pricing, but why no online co-op? That’s a standard feature nowadays!
Also it should have come out earlier. If it came out last week i would have bought it for sure. Now i have the Uncharted 2 beta, and i’ll soon have the MAG beta. So i’m not sure anymore if i’m buying it or not. We’ll see.

Hi,
The game seems to have a few performance issues, like ocasionally 1-second freezes. Are you aware of the problem? It seems to be related to disk/data access.
Posted on 22 September, 2009 at 4:26 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi DarkFame,
I will ask the production about this issue and see if something can be done about it.
I hope it’s not too much of a problem to appreciate Trine!

Hi Oliver and hi to your team as well!
I wanna thank you for “TRINE” – from the bottom of my heart!
It’s so nice and brilliant – and so “calming” and lovely – there’s no “real” hecticness or bloodiness in it… and I love that and beeing really thankful for this pleasent title.
The acoustic of the enviroments is so fine and the soundtrack enchanted me; and the gameplay is so original and combined with the “good old”-2D-gameplay; the textures and cool visual effects – they just look fantastic; and all this little details in the leveldesign are diginfied and has stunning looks, the lightning is awesome and fulfill the ambience with spirit; the story is “thin”, but sweet and reveal a true magical tale, which combines the game with the player on a imaginable way.
„TRINE” is the best game of this year, so far! (For me)
A lot of game-developers can take a leaf of this masterpiece
Thank u for giving me such a positive feeling by playing “TRINE” and bringing me the faith back, that there are still “other” games on this console-generation,… not just the harsh shooter-genre
Bless you, Team Nobilis.
Yours
Olli (28)
PS: The trophies could have been more individual

Thanks for believing in this game

I like what I’ve seen of the game, but TBH I’m a bit hesitant to put down €20 without getting to try it first.
Nice to see another Finnish developer making games on the PSN though.

It’s nice to see this finally being available.
But with such a high price, a demo is essential for many people. It’s not like you can sell it on if you don’t like it.

I’ve been looking forward to Trine since it was announced for PlayStation. I downloaded it when I got home last night and played through the first couple of levels.
I have to say that I’m very impressed. The game looks absolutely stunning, and that’s an understatement. I’m quite intruiged by the physics-based gameplay and it’s interesting to see what is possible watching the video above. I can’t wait to play some more tonight and further my skills. I do have to agree that the only minor niggle is the trophy icons; I was expecting something a little more appropriate considering the attention to detail in the rest of the game.
I think the price of £15.99 is perfectly acceptable. This is a complete retail-quality game available on PSN. I mean really people, it’s 16 quid, not a King’s Ransom. I really can’t think of anything else I could get for the same price that would have similar entertainment value. And if it’s possible to get full PS3 games like Trine and Wip3out HD/Fury for this price, I really think the price of PSP games on the PSN Store needs reassessing.

Hi SD1979,
Thanks for your comment! I’d have to agree with you on the gameplay. I was stunned by the last trailer when it showed thing i didn’t think were possible in the game, like that part when you can surf on a plank using the Thief’s arrows

…continued
I’ve been wanting to play a decent platform game for a very long time and Frozenbyte have certainly delivered the goods. It’s a million miles away from Super Mario Bros., but it’s a very (very!) long time since I was 7, and it’s great to see how platform games have evolved.

What? No online coop? and 199 DKK?!
Does it at least have multiple account support like Resistance 2, so we won’t have to earn all the trophies twice or even thrice?
Oh and:
When online coop’ing each player needs his own copy of the game, when local coop’ing only one copy per three players are needed… I’m not seeing how this is sound business?
Probably still gonna buy it though.
Posted on 22 September, 2009 at 4:53 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hello JetaR,
I’m sorry to tell you that but Trine does not have support for multiple accounts.
I hope you’ll enjoy playing it though.

Got this for the PC and was looking forward to playing it on PS3 with better graphics (med/low – end PC). However not at this price.
Great game, if not incredibly short. Although I did wind up agreeing with zero punctuations review regarding how most puzzles can be solved with the floating platforms.
I’ll wait for a couple of years for the price to drop

Hey Olivier, been following Trine now for a while now and was aware that you guys had bug issues with releasing it on psn but all i can say was that the wait was worth it this game is brilliant and i hope you do some more to expand it like maybe a bit of DLC or a Sequel. On a side note i agree that the trophies are a bit lame but then again there only trophies just wish they had a cool piece of artwork instead any chance of a patch for this?
Posted on 22 September, 2009 at 4:56 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hi Wraxend,
Thanks for your comment. It was never in our attention to keep you waiting for the game but we wanted to deliver the best experience possible. I know it sounds like “marketing” talk but it also turns out to be the truth
I have currently no information on DLC or a sequel.
Have a good one!

£15,99 on the UK store, 199 NOK on the Norwegian store. Whoever decided on those exchange rates need to lay off the lead paint.
1 GBP = 9,61 NOK (18.09.09), and it has been under 10 for quite a while.
It’s not the actual price of the game that’s a problem, it’s the exchange rates that annoys. And enough not to buy this game. What will the US guys pay once it goes live over there? Probably $20?

Am a bit disappointed that the trophy-icons are SO boring after all the graphics in the game are great, it’s a full game so I think the price is about right – even though I used 300 SEK lst night
Trine and Red Alert Challenges.
I didn’t expect that much from this game, hadn’t read that much about it, but after playing for an hour it took me right back to the old Vikings game, which I loved, it’s already doing my tail grey as there is one bottle of experience I can’t reach, but I’m determined to get it, so up and onwards
Congratz on doing what in my mind and beliefs are what the PSN really needs – good and cheap games.

Any news on when online co-op will be available? I have been looking forward to this game for awhile and was going to get it on release but am disappointed about it being same system co-op. My bf and I have our PS3s set up next to each other so don’t really want to have to play on the same screen.
Was a bit surprised at the AU$30 price too. Anyway am happy to pay that price when there is online co-op but until then will just wait for a patch.
Posted on 22 September, 2009 at 5:05 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hello PurePoison1,
Concerning the online co-op mode, I’m afraid it won’t be implemented but your remarks are being noted and we will consider it if we ever work on a sequel
As for this game, co-op is still an amazing feature on a platform game and it’s really fun to play when you can annoy the people sitting next to you on the couch

No demo = No sale, no way in hell would i spend £16 on a game that i can’t return/sell off to someone else if i don’t like it.
Not having a demo on a game this price is just wrong.

I’m having a problem with Trine. I get to the same section of the game and my console shuts itself off. It shuts down immediately and the red light blinks. I understand that this red light means that the console is overheated, but this event only takes place when I play this same section of the game and only this game. It also might be worht noting that i only had the console on for 5 minutes, so I don’t see how it could be over heated anyways
Posted on 22 September, 2009 at 5:06 pm by Olivier Vermeille
Hello Liamario,
This is odd, i’ll talk to production about it and see if something can be done for this particular problem.

Hyvä Suomi! Great game, keep ‘em coming.
I think the price is right. People, this is no crappy Wolfenstein 3D remake, it’s a new, full game.

@Liamario
Are you playing on the PS3 or the 360?
42
Posted on 18 September, 2009 at 3:29 pm by CloudStorm87
@Ziggy-Moff:
Perhaps you’re right. I’d like to have a demo for anything above £10-12 especially as with so many big retail games coming out that will undoubtedly put a dent in my wallet. I guess a compromise for not having a demo for every game is being able to share games. If you have a friend who might want the game, you could split the cost or something and both download the game.
43
Posted on 18 September, 2009 at 3:30 pm by CloudStorm87

Took me long enough just to get the supplied codes in correctly that I was well out of it.
Never mind – the missus will have to wait to play this until I see a full review of it on the PS3 (rather than the PC).
