As promised, here’s our TGS interview with Team ICO’s Director, Fumito Ueda. Our TGS coverage will continue throughout the week with more interviews coming soon. So keep an eye out for those.
If you missed the new The Last Guardian trailer, make sure you take a look, then watch Jeff natter with one of the industry’s great names in our video interview below.
Day one of TGS was a bit out of hand. While Jem was downstairs digging into Valkyria Chronicles 2, I had the opportunity to meet with Team ICO’s Fumito Ueda. Decisions, decisions.
Though Ueda-san wasn’t up for spilling *too many* details on the upcoming The Last Guardian, he did give some interesting insight into the way he and his team make games. He also hints that maybe we don’t know how this game is going to play out, after all.
Oh, and there was one pressing question that I didn’t ask – because Joystiq and Kotaku already beat me to it (“Will there ever be a PS3 remake of Ico/Shadow of the Colossus a la the God of War collection?”). Check out their stories for his answer.

LAST!
Excellent interview! I hope they remaster Ico and Shadow… so that I don’t have to play them via backwards compatibility.
I’m so looking forward to this game.

Great! One of the best devs for playstation, once TLG comes out it would be amazing to get a more in depth look into their studio and how they work.

I’m just dying to see all ICO TEAM games on ps3
By the way, SCEE could hurry a little bit with releasing GOW Collection here – no one is gonna wait that long, it’s not hard to import those games

I would hope that this game is a raving success, financially. That’s really the only thing I missed in the interview: the past two games were classics, but didn’t have financial success. It would be interesting to hear if that has influenced the making of the next game.
That’s also why I hope the first two games are reissued for the PS3. I would love to hand over my money to these people, if only they would let me, instead of having to buy Ico for 30 euro on ebay.

Also: lol moment of the day from the Joystiq interview about the meaning of the original japanese title of the game: [A literal translation of the title, as suggested by Sony in the presence of Ueda, was "Man Eating Giant Eagle: Torico."]
I totally love that title! I can’t see why they didn’t go for that! I would love to walk into Gamestop and ask if “Man Eating Giant Eagle: Torico” has come out yet.

This is the first time I’ve seen in-game footage of The Last Guardian and I’m almost lost for words, the motion of the big dog thing and the animation is general is incredible. Another stunning game that makes me proud to be a PS3 supporter.
Does this game have a release date yet?

This is looking really great! Definitely going to pick it up and I do hope Ico and SOTC get the remastered treatment as the God Of War series is getting (and also hope those come out in the AUS/EU market as well).

I will be picking TLG on day one for sure. ICO/SOTC collection needs to happen with a demo of TLG. lol I already own both on the PS2 but that won’t stop me buying them again.
games like this and Demon’s Souls, Valkyria Chronicles etc are the reason I bought my PS3.

Ever since gaming sites unveiled the GOW Collection, there have only been two other titles that have consistently popped up in the comments section ICO & Shadow of the Colossus, Sony and TeamICO would be mad not to remaster these clearly in-demand editions.

Thanks for the interview. I’m really excited for this one. As I have read a couple of days ago, they are planning to launch the game simultaneously around the globe, so I hope they will finally do it.
I already have Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on PS2, but I wouldn’t mind purchasing a God of War collection-like bundle remastered with trophy support on PS3 again.
Regards.

I’ve never played ICO & SotC, although if they remastered it like the God of War collection, consider me sold

I bought Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on day one back in the day and I would happily shell out for a re-release on the PS3.
I’m incredibly glad that Sony has supported Team Ico and its creative vision even though the games have generally been sleeper hits.
