Hi everyone! It’s Scott from Creat Studios, back again to announce the launch of yet another PSN title, and ask: “How old-school are you?”
If you’re a fan of classic games, but not so much a fan of tired, ancient graphics, then you’re going to love Digger HD.
Creat Studios has reconstructed the timeless 1980’s PC hit, Digger, for the 21st century as Digger HD, available October 8 on PlayStation Network for €9.99/£7.99. The gameplay that everyone loved back when fax machines were considered hi-tech remains intact. All the visuals, however, have been given a better facelift than an ageing Hollywood starlet! The environments, sound, animations, music, menus… everything is fully updated to PlayStation 3 standards.
Control the feisty little construction vehicle and burrow your way around the dangerous underground world. Dig through the dirt horizontally and vertically to create paths, collect jewels and coins, avoid crazy monsters and falling bags of gold in single and cooperative multiplayer modes. Maneuver your way around 60 complex levels and find secret, hidden artifacts.
The playful, cutting-edge techno score features original tracks from up-and-coming artists Candie Hank, Gangpol & Mit and GNG. And as a bonus, you can return to those 1980’s roots with the Vintage mode that replicates the original Digger’s 8-bit vibe.
For a good throwback experience to the decade of parachute pants, hairspray, VHS tapes and John Hughes movies, you don’t need to dig up a VCR. Download Digger HD, and travel back in time in style!
As always, thanks to all of our fans and customers. We love making games, and we love your feedback. Please let us know how much you enjoy Digger HD.

Can i play custom soundtracks in this? I am now refusing to buy store stuff like this unless i can. Come on, dont let me down.

Hi funkymoose!
Yes, yes, yes you can indeed play custom soundtracks.
The music in the game is pretty cool, too. Candie Hank, GNG (not GMG as stated in the blog… that’s a typo) and Gangpol & Mit created some pretty cool techno songs. But if it’s not your taste, feel free to plug in some Kelly Clarkson.

Good good news on the custom soundtracks, i mean, i always run through the original scores first but for extra game life, bring on some rock! (How about a patch for cuboid, was you guys wasnt it? I love that game!)
Posted on 7 October, 2009 at 3:18 pm by Scott Hyman
Yes, Cuboid was us.
Digger HD is the sixth release on PSN from Tik and Creat this year.
Let me check with our producers about Cuboid.

Hi Sir Magnum,
Sorry, we don’t have a demo available now. As for the future, we’re always discussing such things. So, it’s always quite possible.

I always love playing retro style games with trophies, kinda feels like you’re getting a long overdue reward for all the time spent playing these games in their original state. Does it have trophies?
Posted on 7 October, 2009 at 3:56 pm by Scott Hyman
Lots and lots of trophies, FatScarf. Everyone at Creat and Tik looooves us some trophies. As I stated above, there are some secret ones to find, too. We hope you enjoy!

I’ll be picking this up, it looks like good solid retro fun! I preferred Boulder Dash back in the day though, but this game is the next best thing I suppose! Nice touch having the original game bundled with it too!

I remember this game (and how lousy i was at it lol). The update looks good but i’m just a little bit concerned at the price of these retro games
(i’m not being stingy as i own 45 psn games)
With the exception of Shatter, i’ve been a little let down by some of the retro remakes so a demo would help make my mind up.
I’ll wait

i’m sorry but 7.99 for a rehash of an old game is silly, i’ll spending my money on critter crunch thanks, why is it that price when games such as Shatter or Wolfenstein 3D are minus £6?
24
Posted on 8 October, 2009 at 1:31 am by Bloody_Marcel
I loved Magic Ball and Cuboid, but 9,99 Euro for this one? I think I’ll pass. Sorry Creat, but the soon to be released Critter Crunch (7,99) sounds like a much better deal to me.
Don’t get greedy!

what a surprise more paupers moaning about prices to someone who probably has no control over the issue, if gamings too expensive for you guys then go sell your PS3 and take up knitting ……and whilst you do i’ll be enjoying some old school fun with digger
” cant wait”

Sorry, but £7.99 is too much – I don’t really care who is responsible. It has to be something pretty special to justify more than £5 – perhaps I’m used to reasonably priced games on the iPhone. What are the chances that you’d sell twice as many if it was priced at £4.99 – you’d get similar revenue but a larger audience.

Posted on 8 October, 2009 at 10:21 am by Capeview
£7.99 for a game that looks just as old as the game its supposed to rehash???
I have Dig Dug else where and much prefer that to the looks of this game.
It’s all well and good rehashing Retro Titles, but they have to be something special to make them worthwhile, and at £7.99, it’s not worthwhile or a bargain.

if its too much for you its simple dont buy! and i disagree i love the old school retro games and know plenty of others who do. Im pretty sure it’ll sell well…..in my opinion £7.99 is well worth it, even if you only played it for an afternoon ….. there isnt many other activities you could do for a whole afternoon for £7.99 …..going to the cinema costs around £6 and your average film only lasts 90 mins, and the last time i went out on the town for drinks with my friends i didnt get much change fom 50 pounds. It makes me laugh to see people get so angry over this and say they’d buy if it was 4 or 5 pounds when it only costs 8 ……thats people not buying for the sake of 3 pounds , i spend more than that on lunch , cmon people!! lol

Posted on 8 October, 2009 at 11:27 am by s0602277
well rob dee, its good to know that you have loads of money lying around for a game that only lasts an afternoon, ibought super stardust for 6.29 when it first came out, and i’m still playing it, £8 on an ‘afternoon’ game is silly when there other games that can last months at the same price.

Posted on 8 October, 2009 at 8:22 pm by rob_dee81
if youd botherd to read my post properly youd of seen that i never said youd only get an afrternoons play from this game, my point was take a risk and buy it cos it looks great and if it is then thats 8 pounds well spent but if it turns out to be an “afternoon” game it aint the end of the world cos 8 pounds is a small amount and most other activitys actually cost more anyway.

Woah just noticed the price thats way too much for this game. Sorry but i’ll pass on this one i’m sure somebody will pay though
.

@rob-dee,
Sorry, but if you blow £8 everytime one of these games gets released on PSN, you could end up blowing an aweful lot of money on an awful lot of probably awful games.
Sorry, but £8 for this title just isn’t worth the £8, when there are titles such as Star Dust that are far better and it was bought for less. Hell, buying Wipeout HD for £11.99 when it was released is far better value that this game for £8.
I don’t mind spending money if it’s worth while, but not just blowing it for the sake of blowing it. If people just keep spending money for the sake of it, the devs will just keep releasing poor quality titles with stupid price tags.

i understand your point but surely its a matter of taste ? if you really enjoy these games then 8 pounds aint so bad . Ok the fanbase for retro games may be smaller and more niche but surely we deserve the opportunity to buy? if the store only tailored to 1 type of gamer then it would be pretty boring , dont u agree? Also its very unfair to state that the game is poor quality capeview if u dont own it , and if u do own it then surely that proves my point that people will happily pay 8 pounds for retro games. It may not be worth 8 pounds to u but that doesnt mean it wont be worth 8 pounds to every1 . I payed and im having fun playing, whats wrong with that?

@rob_dee,
I have and enjoy many a retro game because it’s my past gaming history and some of those games even today are hell of a lot of fun to play.
The problem comes when these so called rehashes really aren’t all that impressive and they are being released at a 3rd of the price of some full blown titles that will give hours of fun. Even some of the games that are in the stores cost £10 or less that are probably better than this game.
I’m all for retro games, but this £8 price tag for something that really doesn’t look any better than the original, is just cashing in on the Online Store.
I have seen much better games from the retro scene that have had a far better job done on them from the old Spectrum/C64 days.
The lack of demos for a lot of these titles is also something I think needs to be rectified. At least then people will know what they are getting, instead of dumping £8 everytime they think a game will be good, only to be stung on so many occasions.
I’m just not one of those people that will dump £8 everytime a game appears on the PSN just because it’s £8.

Posted on 9 October, 2009 at 2:35 pm by rob_dee81
with regards to the point about demos, i agree wholeheartedly and can see the sense in it and how it would rectify the issue to a degree , but i still stick with what i said about £8 being a fair price if you get alot of enjoyment from a game.I suppose it comes down to the individual, one person will enjoy it and be happy to part with the cash, whereas another wont as the game doesnt do anything for them. Anyway capeview atleast we agree that theres still a place in this modern era for retro games and that its important to keep the genre going with remakes that bring something new whilst keeping the origional “feel” of the game so the experience reminds us of our gaming roots but also feels fresh and new.
36
Posted on 9 October, 2009 at 2:38 pm by rob_dee81
I also agree that there are other remakes that look better, but in the end what really matters is gameplay

Posted on 11 October, 2009 at 3:03 am by FatScarf
Sorry to join the negative side but i’ll definitely leave off until this is on offer for half it’s price. £8 is way too much for a rehashed retro game.
