Hello all – you’re all lucky people this week; you get a double dose of me (hooray I hear you cry)!
Following on from the post on the blog last week detailing the new PSN Cards, it made sense to us to compile some of our best loved content available on the PlayStation Store that may have passed you by – and being the kind, caring, and considerate person I am, I’m here to guide you through that content
I’m pleased to say that we now have over 130 games for your PS3 available via the store; and that number covers a wide range of genres, well known titles, smaller self published titles and a vast amount of protagonists to play as. From faceless blocks, to ships of differing guises blasting though waves of enemies, via ‘boy’ and his ability to eat everything around him (including his own tail), a Persian prince who has been given a new lick of paint, and soil living creatures with a crazy arsenal of weaponry, I think gaming on the PSN is looking like a veritable feast of goodness!
There are many great titles that deserve to be mentioned, but I don’t have the space to list them all (and you probably don’t have the patience to read them all) – so here’s a mere snippet, a taster if you will, of what you may have missed in previous updates.
For Your PS3
War should definitely not be glorified, however, when a multiplayer game looks this good it’s hard not to resist getting online and jumping into the trenches and taking the fight to the enemy guns a blazing! With a range of weaponry and vehicles to fight with, this is a great opportunity to challenge your friends to some brutal online action (made less brutal by the fantastic scenery and ever shining sun) and claim some bragging rights.
Flower is just as much an experience as it is a game, by using the sixaxis motion controls you glide with the wind collecting flower petals as you go. Peaceful, relaxing, and sometimes chaotic, this game is a unique demonstration of beautiful graphics and freedom, where you can complete each levels aims, and find the mysteries, or you can simply explore and float around to your heart’s desire.
Take control of Bruce and survive wave after wave of the zombie onslaught. The key to victory is linking massive combos, and utilising the various weapons scattered about the levels to ensure your success. Baseball bats, shotguns, lawnmowers and chainsaws are some of the tools for your victory, but there is also the use of fire to work with too! Fire makes the zombies faster and more dangerous, but also leads to better pickups and much higher scores; therefore, you need to manage the flaming zombies to master this quirky game.
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Commander’s Challenge
For the RTS fans out there this game is a great choice – this standalone game from the Red Alert 3 world sets you 50 unique challenges to work through in order to lay claim to being a world class commander. It’s not often you’ll get to test you wits against Ric Flair (well actually he’s playing Commander Hill) so take the fight to him, and various other commanders, with a range of troops, including new ones such as the Giga Fortress, Desolator, and Cryo Legionnaire.
Take a thief, knight and magician, a magical trinket that binds them all together, and you’ll get the premise for Trine. Combine the talents of these three ‘heroes’, who all have different progressive skills, to discover hidden treasures, solve physics based puzzles, and battle various enemies. This is a stunning game which uses a physics based engine that ensures the game plays out with true physics based interactions, and it’s also a lot of fun to boot!
Others to try: Shatter, Outrun Online Arcade, PixelJunk Eden, Prince of Persia Classic, Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty, Worms.
As for the PSP, we have over 140 full games available at the moment on the store, and that number will be rising as we release more content each week, with more brand new releases coinciding with the retail release, as well as getting more legacy titles onto the store as the weeks roll by.
For Your PSP
The Forest Defender is back, only this time he’s portable. The game mechanic is the same, as the Forest Defender you need to save your offspring from the hordes of monsters; however this version brings with it new weapon towers, a new island, new music and a new mode. That’s not all, once you feel like you’ve mastered the single player modes, you can join a friend online and fight together in Co-op.
What needs to be said about our favourite god of war Kratos that hasn’t been said already? He’s the epitome of bad-ass, and you wouldn’t argue with him over the remote control that’s for sure, let alone trap Helios the sun god in the Underworld and risk the wrath of Kratos coming along to free him. Well that’s what has gone and happened, so join Kratos in this epic adventure and slay many a mythical beast in the process.
Pon-pon-pata-pon. Seriously, once you’ve played this game for more than a few minutes, you won’t be able to get the rhythms out of your head. Control the Patapon tribe with the ‘sacred drums’ by keeping a steady beat and you’ll excel in battle. However, if you lose the beat, don’t expect your tribe to pay much attention anymore. This game is a true test of rhythm, but is also a very unique take on the strategy genre. Pata-pata-pon-pon.
Another title that really needs little by way of an introduction, you should know the drill by now; start with a low ranked car, drive some races, win some cash, get a better car and start entering more challenging races, until you rise to the very top of the circuit. With over 800 cars available, and 35 tracks to test your skills on, combined with the glossy sheen of the Gran Turismo franchise, this is a great racing game to take with you whilst on the move.
Build your mental muscles with this portable version of the quiz show Buzz! You can test your wits in the Solo Quiz Challenge, or host your own six player quizzes and play with your friends on the same console. With over 3000 questions, it’ll take some doing to find all the answers, and will also stop your family cheating by memorising all the answers off the back of the cards (Trivial Pursuit will never be the same again, thanks Dad!).
Others to try: Fate/Unlimited Codes, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Numblast, Sega Mega Drive Collection, WipEout Pulse.
Finally, as a sneak peek into tomorrow’s update, I can say that Ratchet & Clank will be joining you via the medium of a dynamic theme, and as an added bonus, you can check out the video below:
It’s impossible to do justice to every single title on the store at present in one blog post, and that’s where you all come in; what are your favourite titles available via the store? Discuss your favourites in the comments below, and let me know your thoughts.

I know you all want PSone games – every week I reiterate the point that I am in total agreement with you all, it’s just not as easy as dropping them onto the store unfortunately (if only it were that simple).

Burn Zombie Burn shouldn’t have been on there.. huge waste of money in my opinion.
Pain? that’s pretty good, apart from the never ending add on content i guess.
Warhawk, i still play that occasionally with my friends.
Bomberman – excellent multiplayer, especially if you’ve got friends over.
Crash Commando – Can’t for the life of me play this game well, but i enjoy it
Does fallout 3 DLC count? – I <3 fallout 3
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 3:56 pm by Mike Kebby
Fair enough Phuquit – we’re not all going to like the same things
I thought BZB was good, and I had a lot of fun with it.
Of course Fallout 3 DLC counts, I LOVE this game!!

Hi Mike,
It’s nice to have you on the blog, it seems you like fallout 3 a lot so I dare recommend you Demon’s Soul’s. This game so addictive that I put Uncharted 2 and ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on hold. Hopefully, Importing games from America isn’t prohibited by SCEE as it is from Asia and some company have more faith than SCEA and SCEE for games distributed by SCEJ.
PS: I have about ten psn games stil waiting to be played or finished, so please, go easy on the next updates
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 3:58 pm by Mike Kebby
Thanks sambuque – it’s a pleasure to be here
I’m scared about Demon’s Souls because by the sounds of it it’ll take over my life, I mean I’m still playing Fallout 3, and my first game save is from October 2008!

I am under no doubt that these games will perform really well if released on our stores.

Bought a fair few PSN titles over the past year but the ones i’ve had most fun with are 3 on 3 NHL arcade, Fat Princess and Bomberman: Ultra though i haven’t really been disappointed with any so keep up the good work
Any news on NBA unrivaled yet Mike!?

Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 4:30 pm by Ikkarus
I like the method of this Mike.
Also it would be great going forward if you could show a preview of all the dynamic themes when they get released every Thursday. The Ratchet one looks great!
Nice Avater as well, but sadly I think we can all agree that Sully is the one you should have instead of Tenzin.
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 4:53 pm by Mike Kebby
Pah, Sully’s okay, Tenzin is king

So when can we expect the PAL store to update its storefront?
Better category sections (ps1/ps2/ps3/psp/demo/addon content), a proper search, maybe some toplists ala US store?
When will the What’s New section actually link to a proper store? (linking to Fallout3 DLC thats still not available come to mind)
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 4:54 pm by Mike Kebby
There is a proper search function, and we won’t do the toplists as the US store does because we prefer the cleaner look of our homepage to be honest.
The What’s New section does link correctly to the store, however on the occasion of the Fallout 3 content you do have a point.

Psn games is just a wayste of money . exept Battlefield 1943 but 3 maps its too little they should add some new maps. PSN is too expensive ur spesial offers sucks .

Hi Mike!
Great job on the blog here!
Somehow, i’ve been strangely captivated by the intense HD beauty of that game, ever since i saw its E3 trailer. Also, there’s been no news about Hustle Kings since E3. The fans need to know!
Do you happen to know when Hustle Kings is going to be released? Or at least, if it’s going to be this year?
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 5:00 pm by Mike Kebby
Howdy, and cheers shaksnet – I do know the date, but I’m not allowed to say anything just yet (gotta be careful). As soon as a date can be shared you’ll see the info here on the blog.

Actually, there is once again a broken link in the What’s New currently – (at least here in .NL ?)
Theres an icon ‘Playstation Forums’ that links to the PSN store (and obviously returns and error)
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 5:02 pm by Mike Kebby
Hmm – you got me there, I’ve just my Dutch account and you are indeed correct
78
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 5:05 pm by Bloody_Marcel
What is that PlayStation Forums icon supposed to link to anyways? The forums web page I assume. Right?
Oh, and I’m following you.
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 5:07 pm by Mike Kebby
That’s what I presume (I only nominate all the store content for What’s New)
Another stalker to welcome into the fold, muhahaha

Haha, I also want that Tenzin avatar!

We should start a Tenzin fan club!!

Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 5:09 pm by makingdamage
Yep, that´s a lot of games! If only there were a lot of demos for those games too…
81
Posted on 21 October, 2009 at 5:12 pm by makingdamage
And I also think that Oddworld is one of those ps1 games that are actually worth (to me) putting up on the psn-store because it´s not dependent on the graphics like other ps1 games.

I have a strange fixation on anything that involves knocking balls into holes so my vote goes for any good billiard, golf and pinball games – I’m heartily enjoying Zen Pinball and think it’s great that they can release new tables through the store and at reasonable prices (hope they release some more soon!)… Plus there’s a demo to win me over. Unsurprisingly I’m looking forward to Hustle Kings and Zen’s Planet Minigolf.
As for PS1 classics, Mike you say in your response to 61 that they’re on your [wish]list… – you may regret that. There’s a list? How do we add to it? Why won’t you publish it?
For my money, there’s the obvious JRPGs (Final Fantasy, Vagrant Story etc – my other weird fixation) and I’d love to see some of the games that never made it to Europe, especially Wild Arms 2 and Chrono Cross. But my left-of-field addition would be RollCage Stage 2 – what a fabulous game that was. Equal parts Wipeout, Mario Kart and FlatOut (though preceding FlatOut by many years) with some gravity-defying personality of its own and some great mini-games – Rubble Soccer kept my brother and me mesmerised for hours.

Temzin? Bah, Sully’s where the action’s at my friend
Sully fan club assemble! En garde!

If only we could play a map with five Tenzins against five Sully’s – that would be cool…
Naughty Dog make it happen please!

Why is Thexder Neo hidden away? I didn’t even see it on the store front, I had to search for it on the day of release (October 1st) and that’s still the only extent anyone will ever discover the title it seems.

Hello there, Mike
I’m sorry but I’ll have to say Battlefield is a really bad choice, it doesn’t even work well on PS3 (VOIP). I would certainly be an addict if I could talk to my team members.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s update
I wanted to buy GTA, but seeing as it’s 40$ on America, I’m afraid we’ll have the 40€ roundup again. I really pray not…
See you tomorrow!

Nice, Hey Mike. Any chance that Prinny’s pricing will come down? £31.99 for a small PSP game is beyond a joke.

Good guess
Mike, as a fellow Fallout 3 fan, what do ya think of Borderlands? I’m gonna pick it up on Friday, I think it looks pretty good. Similar enough to Fallout 3 to make me want it, different enough to convince me its worth buying!

Shame you mist of Wipeout HD and Wipeout HD Fury, Mike. Probably the best exclusive racing PSN title of all time. You just look at it and hear it and you think ‘Must buy now!’.
Do you know if the Motorstorm: Arctic Edge demo is coming to PSN in tomorrows update, Mike?

ODDWORLD ODDWORLD ODDWORLD ODDWORLD!!
SCEE should really read some of the opinion pieces out there on the net about how [DELETED] it makes playstation customers when the different SCE territories work against each other when it comes to releasing content on the stores. Shameful really. Credit to Micro$oft – they have their act together when it comes to digital distribution(I cant believe I have said that!)

Well, I’m sure my list would include Critter Crunch on the top, if it were out, but it’s not so here you go:
- Trine – Bought recently, and WOW is it pretty! And I need to get some friends over and play it co-op, because that looks fun!
- Warhawk – Old now, but a lot of quality!
- PAIN – I had some issues with my accounts, because I bought it through a US PSNID, but it was a great game, and all the new content, that came out since I lost mine looks even better!
