Nice to see a lot of those are available on PS3. Hopefully God of War 3, Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 will be seen next year.
Also, does sony have any plans to do any promotion with activison over modern warfare 2?

I’m with icmnick, who voted for Activision?? Really??? They’re more deserving of the worst publisher of the year award.
And Fallout 3 as GOTY is a con. There have been many games that were far better

shame there wasn’t a worst publisher category as well as best, mind you activision would probably have won both
clearly the marmite of game publishers.

Well done guys – you deserve it!

@AcidCrashX – I don’t think Uncharted 2 was in the running for game of the year because it was released too late in the year to be counted. It should have won “one to watch” though (and should do well at next year’s awards).

i think games released between july 2008 and june 2009 are eligible, that’s why fallout 3 was in many categories.
personally i thought killzone 2 wiped the floor with CoD online, it’s just a much better and more stable experience. littlebigplanet definitely for family game of the year.. 29 years worth of gaming if you played everything available/created for it. by the way, anybody who like star wars, check the levels created by julesyjules, they’re great.
as for activision, they’re pros at milking franchises and bleeding consumers dry. i went to game on saturday to pre-order MW2 and was told it was going to be £55 – i told the assistant to forget it, and apparently it’s been a common response.
@nickdude – i really doubt sony will do promotion with activision for MW2. at best some footage (along with several other games) will be included in TV ads for the PS3 coming up to christmas. and sales figures show it’s not nearly as big a franchise for PS3 as it is for the 360. football is big with PS3 owners it seems, fifa outsells by 150% on PS3 and pro evo soccer by 300%.

Nintendo game of the Year: CoD World at War made me chuckle. Not a bad list, I loved Fallout 3 and have played it a ton. I’m also having a blast with Chinatown Wars PSP this week although this award is obviously for the DS version which I did not play.

I nearly cried when I found out the evil fun-sapping money-grabbing mega corp that is Activision Blizzard won publisher of the year. I don’t think people voting actually understood that category.
Yes Call of Duty sells like hotcakes, and yes people love plastic instruments, but that does not make Activision a good publisher – just look at any quote take from their CEO Bobby Kotick to know that.
These people are all about less creativity, less innovation and less fun, and more price increases, more profits, more sequels, and more overpriced DLC. In short they are everything that is wrong with the games industry.
This award should have gone to a publisher with strong community ties, a proven record in customer support and free or good value DLC, and trying new IP’s to push the boundaries of the industy.
The problem with these awards are that because they’re voted for by the public they’re subject to fanboy warfare and popular multiplat games like Call of Duty win due to shared fanbase even though they may not actually be the best game.
Although that being said I’m surprised and impressed that LBP beat off all the Wii’s heavy hitters to win Family Game of the year…

Congrats to LBP and Killzone 2, worthy winners.
The ‘Soundtrack of the year’ winner seems to lack imagination – surely it ought to be original music ?

I wish that Left 4 Dead was on the PS3
But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Valve are xbox fanboys and can’t be arsed to develop for the PS3
I don’t see how a company like Evovled Games, who are not as big, can develop for the PS3, yet Valve who are obvisly bigger can’t.
Oh well, at least I have the full 1250G on it lol

Where and when did “we” vote?
“Nintendo Game of the Year: Call of Duty: World at War”.
This makes no sense. At all.

That list isn’t even worth the bandwith needed to see it. Metal Gear Solid Touch best mobile game of the year? Come on, 90% of the games on the AppStore are better. And the average quality of those games isn’t high….

lol. Fallout 3? Hahahaha. Horrible.
Anyway. So I voted for Killzone 2. But I did it on the condition that GG would remove the COD/twitch-option from the controls (so people can play on equal terms on any controller), put back the instability when aiming, and kick out the people with more lag than you would get when playing against people at the other end of the globe.
So get to it, please. :p

I agree with almost half of the list… The other half (Blizzard, Guitar Hero, CoD…) is very… odd :/

Retailer of the year: GAME
[DELETED]!!
GAME are horrible!
Shopto.net were nominated and should have won… they offer discount prices on all the latest games PLUS FREE next day delivery!

What a terrible list!
GAME as retailer of the year. Game the worse place to buy games ever, there rubbish and hugely overpriced or they don’t have the stock.
The only reason I use them is for the exculsive special edition games. I which other stores could sell them.
+ fallout 3… yeah sure, whatever. The game that when I played it, I nearly died of boredom.
This made me happy:
UK Developer of the Year: Jagex
seeing as I may do some work experience there, if I’m lucky.

the awards are rigged and/or changed for other developers sakes i.e. microsoft and activision, just look its all non-exclusives except for family games and the elusive playstation game of the year.
and fallout game of the year!! hahahahaha thats a joke! really it is. how can something that poorly made win awards??
and where was MGS4 in those awards? it qualifies for these awards?!
rant over

Bobby Kotick is more deserving of man i hate so much i’ld pay someone to beat and stuff ya so when i wake up in the morning i can punch you in the face of the year but not everyone’s that “lucky”
though seriously who would vote activision as publisher of the year when they overcharged modern warfare 2 and they praticly have the second most evil man in the world second only to bill gates as their C.E.O does bobby have to start sending people off to concentration camps before the voters who voted for him to see that he’s the devil?!

Retailer of the Year: GAME ?????
Goes to show there must alot of people who have money to burn still, I’ve bought 1 game from these in the last 2 years as they are always better deals elsewhere and some of the prices in store are just shocking!

Fantastic job guys! There’s a couple there I felt you should have picked up as well as the two you got, but I guess games are different for everyone. Seems strange that Uncharted 2 got missed out from being nominated – did the Golden Joysticks judges forget about it?
Anyways, enjoy your well-deserved victory! *pops the champagne*

When they say “IPs” in this sense…”PlayStation’s most popular IPs”…what does it mean??!
34
Posted on 3 November, 2009 at 7:03 pm by AlexTheStampede
IP should be “Intellectual Property”.
35
Posted on 8 November, 2009 at 1:19 pm by Darlo88
Intellectual Property, it just means a new game that they haven’t thought of a name for.
