Ratchet week continues today with a rather cosy sofa interview between myself and James Stevenson, Community Relations Manager at Insomniac. I asked you guys for some questions, and you certainly delivered. So excuse the length of the video, but I didn’t want to cut out any of your great questions.
James was on the last leg of his European media tour, having shown off Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time to press around the continent. I asked him to put together a diary of the trip for the blog, so look for the first part of that in the next day or so. In the mean time, check out this interview and prepare yourself for the release of the game later this week.

Nice interview – good questions. James’ answer to the multiplayer question was interesting. You can’t really compare multiplayer gaming on PS2 to PS3. OK, only 1 or 2 percent of players bothered with ratchet online on the PS2 but that’s because hardly anybody was online. PS3 is different – most people now play online. Personally I would rather they put their resources on making the game multiplayer (I’ll take a shorter adventure anyday since a game with online multiplayer will keep me entertained for far longer). Look at how many people are playing Uncharted 2 online even though the single player game is awesome in itself!

Nice interview, good questions, cheers.
Although I must say, Jem, you like tired, or maybe just overwhelmed by James’ presence, eh? ^^
@7 reakt: Agreed, with the PS3, a lot more people have online access.

Actually I was still recovering from a rather nasty cold when this way filmed. Not to mention it was not quite at the end of a very long day (right after this video was taken I rushed back to my computer to get the Dragon Age liveblog started).
So, er, there.

i really would have loved to know if they were going to do anything multiplayer related in the next year, which is a shame.
and knowing that this possibly could be the last game kills me!

well the only reason i didn’t use online in 3 and deadlocked/gladiator was that it was on a PS2 and without the wireless internet it was too complicated for me when i was that age.

@thealp
gald you feel the same, they should relase something new in the next year and a half, a multiplayer expansion would be awesome.
also hoping that the GOW collection sells well…that may mean that the R&C series can come on PS3!
i hope….

The argument of “3%” of players having played R&C UYA on PS2 is not a solid argument I think… simply because today, players who own a PS3 can play online for free, without need of buying any kind of adaptator or wifi set. So, lots more of players are able to play online in 2009 than they were able back in the PS2 days.
Anyway, I still agree on the fact that a great Ratchet game is before everything else a great single adventure.

@NeodeosX
yep, i bought the first PS2 and never got online, but after i got a PS3 i play online all the time (i also played Size Matters on my PSP online but i could not find the paper with the code to register my online user thing (before we had psn users) and i even called sony and they said they would send me one but i never got one : / ..

@10_reply Jem: Sorry, I meant “look”, not “like”…anyways, now I understand your little fatigue, but, hey, you’re doing your job greatly, bringing a good service to the fans out there, it has it’s price, I guess. ^^

I went to Gamestop to pick up Ratchet today, I live in Sweden which means it suppose to be released today November 4th. When I got to the counter and the clerk said it would be released November 6th, wasn’t that for UK?

@Omega932000
the official release date in EU is the 6., at least that what they told me in Gamestop this Monday, first it was the 28. Oct, then the 4. Nov and now its the 6. i hope its not going to get moved any more than that.

I got the same message from Gamestop as Omega932000. This is getting me very angry. I want my Ratchet game today. Can countries just change the release date as they want or can we direct Gamestop to some offical information that the release date is today.
They always give [DELETED] that they cant release it because they will get a big fine if they release it before the release date.

On Insomniac’s website yesterday it said Europe/PAL’s releasedate was indeed November 4th.

I would love an offical reply here which I could relay to Gamestop so that I can go there and pick up my game today. Already paid for it so very annoying that they refuse to give it to me

As far as I know, games release on the mainland on Wednesdays, and in the UK on Fridays. The Swedish office may have decided to have the game release on Friday there, instead, but I honestly don’t know. Sorry.

Thanks for the post Jem Alexander. But very dissapointing that they can do so. Especially when there cant be any sort of positive reason behind it. They even have it in store.
I thought that when a EU release that was set it would be so in all countries. I have talked to Gamestop and they were going to look into it. But I guess it is looking grim and I will have to wait until Friday. Sucky part is that some people that have ordered it online have already gotten it and I know one store in my town that is selling it.

Good interview guys, looking forward to picking the game up on friday. On a side note does anyone know if the uk will be getting the awesome looking 3 Dot Game Heroes released. SCEA has said that the localisation for the USA is inevitable so I’m kinda hoping we can get the same treatment over here. Thanks
