Hi Guys,
We have now released the latest PlayTV software update (1.21) for you and here’s what it will do -
- Play TV now lets you Watch, Pause and Record High Definition TV for DVB-T standard broadcast. In countries that are launching free digital HD channels you will now be able to both watch and record them through your PS3 with PlayTV.
- Aino remote play support. If you get the new Sony Ericsson Aino mobile phone with PS3 remote play features, we have optimized the user interface of PlayTV for the mobile phone screen so that you get the best mobile PlayTV experience possible.
- Update of the PS3 to System Software 3.0. The update 3.0 for your PS3, if you haven’t done it already, will make sure that you have the mobile phone function in the remote play settings. You will need this if you want to experience PlayTV on the go with your Aino mobile phone.
- Better standard definition upscaling. We have managed to improve the SD upscaling feature of PlayTV so when you are watching SD channels on an HD screen they will look as good as they possibly can.

Good work guys – very impressed with it so far. Now if only I didn’t have the original PS3 which uses so much power
Damn, wrote a long comment but small limit … so short, blunt, anti-grammatical version follows:
- OSD is too high (hdtv;why overscan?), and stays on too long (or forever). Lower, and a shorter timeout that always applies would be lovely. Most annoying thing so far.
- Button repeat too slow in guide.Use same as xmb speed?
- All Popups should allow ‘o’ to close.
- Printed manual is really awful, just as well you don’t need it!
- Consistency! Now have 6 completely different menu systems for multimedia on ps3 – xmb, internet browser, playtv, photo viewer, horrid ps2-style overlay for xmb media players, and eye-create. Feels like a personal computer running 3rd party apps, not an intergrated solution from a single vendor. I would really love just having xmb as the `desktop’ and photo-viewer main menu for all apps, with xmb dialogue `boxes’/'wizards’ for settings, plus 1 consistent `on-screen remote’.
wishlists:
- transcode to save disk space and to transfer to psp.
- start faster!
- upscale frame-rate as well as size. 25fps non-interlaced -> 50fps, like newer tv’s.

My TDT receptor box died so I bought PlayTV as a replacement. It’s ok but startup is far too slow, unless I have not set it up correctly. The latest 1.21 download hasn’t helped.
1)When turning on TV I have to select ‘input AV4′ each time to connect with the PS3. Didn’t have to do this with the previous TDT box. Is there a way that I can get the TV to start up automatically connected to PS3? Am currently using the connector with 5 colours – Would another type of cable help?
2)Is there a way for PlayTV to startup automatically without having to manually select it in XMB. I would prefer to have to quit PlayTV to do something else rather than have to select PlayTV on startup. I have already set it up so that LiveTV starts automatically once PlayTV is manually selected.
Also have the following questions:
a)Is there a way to sort programmes into the order I want?
b)Why isn’t there a volume control or on/off button on the PlayTV remote?
c)When is the next Download scheduled?

Since there seems nowhere else to send these things – there’s a bug in the recording schedule.
If you set a show to record with say ‘end recording 10 minutes later’, and then after the shows normal finishing time has passed (but not the 10 minute extension) you then set it to ‘end recording on time’, i.e. set it to the ‘past’, the recording never finishes.
Got 10 hours of infomercials last night.
