Sounds like Halloween all over again doesn’t it? I hope you all had fun frightening each other over the weekend. It really is the only time in the year that you don’t even blink as a man dressed up as a bleeding priest chases after a girl dressed up as a viking down your local high street as I did.
Things to watch out this week… MASSIVE SLAYER COMPETITION and EXCLUSIVE PRODIGY INTERVIEW. Be excited… Be very excited.
But first, I have some important info…
We are all working really hard to get all these new countries live in time for the end of the year, and everything is going really well so far and we should be able to announce some dates very soon. In order for this to happen we have to make some changes to our infrastructure (for all of you none techy people, that basically means tightening screws and bolting bits on). This means that the service MAY be interrupted periodically for 48 hours starting at 00:00 GMT on Tuesday 10th November. Hopefully this shouldn’t affect you too much and we will try and keep the outages to the veeeeeeeery minimum.
Ok… important stuff over…Let the fun stuff begin…
Homepage Feeds
Slayer Greatest Hits & Competition
Original 80’s American thrash metallers are a mildly scary but very giving bunch. Not only are they willing for their greatest hits be available as one of our homepage feeds but they are giving y’all a chance to win 3 pairs of backstage tickets, a pair for each date for the English leg of their World tour or a signed copy of their new album “World Painted Blood”. To enter go here and sign into your PSN account and answer a multiple choice question. Good luck!!
We also have similar giveaways for the German and French leg of the tour, check out the competition area of PlayStation.com on Friday 6th November for details how to enter. Good luck!!
ARTIST OF THE WEEK
Prodigy Exclusive Interview (All VidZone Countries)
These guys don’t talk to anyone… apart from us!!! Liam, Keith and Maxim. We get up close and personal with these dance music gods. I’m sure you must agree that this is pretty exciting and if you don’t keep reading I’m sure there is something to get your heart racing.
Wolfmother – (UK, Ireland and Australia)
“WOMAN, you know you, WOMAN” etc… Remember them?? Of course you do!! The Aussie rock’n’roll trio are fighting back onto the scene with their new album “Cosmic Egg”. Personally it’s the best album title of 2009 . We give to you a playlist including all their hits and their soon to be a hit new single “New Moon Rising”
SingStar Take That Special
In honour of one of Europe’s hottest acts, SingStar is releasing a Take That disc to sing along until you can’t sing along no more. Just in case you forgot… or if you just love them with all your heart… this playlist will make your day
Back to the 80’s
My favourite decade ever!!! Synthesisers , strange outfits and stupid hair… and probably the inspiration for your favourite bands today. George Michael to Cyndi Lauper to Pointer Sisters. Have an 80’s party all by yourself or with your friends.
Reccomended playlists
21st Century Rock
OK, so it may not have been possible to have the rock of today without the old school of rock… but forget that for a minute and get your air guitars out of the cupboard for the new style.
Hottie Videos
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… Hotties…
Interview Room
We have changed the homepage feed into a full playlist so you can search though all the juicy interviews we have on VidZone.
Next week’s Hompage Feed
Artist of the week
Leona Lewis – With a voice as surprising (but a lot less disturbing and a lot more amazing) as finding your toothbrush covered in marmite, Leona has constantly has wowed the whole world with her towering inferno of a voice and that s no different to her new single “Happy”… You will be after you have heard it.
Indie Disco
You know it’s cool to mash genres together like slamming and apple against a mango. Indie disco is the new black and we have all the videos you need to keep you dancing all the way to the record store.
Award Winning Artists
To coincide with that ultra flashy annual affair they like to call the MTV Video Music Awards (The VMA’s if you wanna be cool about it) we have all the videos from all the winners.
Other Things
Genres
Loads of requests for new genres to be added so you will start seeing new ones being added sporadically over the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for them and let us know what you think.
Think that’s it, no doubt I will think of something as soon as I hit publish.
Ben

Posted on 5 November, 2009 at 2:54 pm by Ben Creasey
Hi Deadrest
You trying to use reverse psychology on me so I reply? Well it worked, but I would have replied anyway.
Pink Floyd are on EMI which we are still working on licensing, we will very soon hopefully. Even when we get EMI, Pink Floyd may not give the rights to the service, its up to them. But we will do everything in our power to get them for you and are usually pretty good at persuading artists.
Hope that gives you a little insight into the inner workings of our licensing.

Can we expect EMI and Warner deals by the end of the year? Should we email requests of artists from these labels?
Posted on 5 November, 2009 at 5:41 pm by Ben Creasey
Hey Sully,
Always request artists and labels so we can hit the ground running when we get the labels. Not sure about by xmas, but maybe… would be a great xmas present heh?

I can’t wait to see it in the netherlands!
Good work! The positive thing from the delay in other countries is that we have a lot video’s to watch!
I Like the way you feature so many exclusive video’s! I hope there will be more in the feature. Maby it’s fun to create some playlists on countries.
For example: Dutch Playlist (With dutch artists), and English Playlists, French, Spanish, ect…. I think that would be cool!
But keep on the good work!
(Sadly i can’t count the day’s to the release in the netherlands because I don’t have a release date to count to, but I cant wait! really, music is great! And in combination with the PS3 it’s even better!)

It’s obvious you guys do a lot of work on vidzone and i respect that but I’ve been a bit disenchanted with vidzone recently. However news of possibly getting Pink Floyd on it has piqued my interest.
I would also like to see The Stranglers and The Strokes and Dire Straits, all of which currently show up on the list of artists when i do a search but when i click on any of them it says ‘no matches found’.
Oh and any chance of getting the other version of Coldcut’s ‘Timber’? It was much better than the one currently available.

Wolfmother isn’t a trio anymore… they’re four now, with only Andrew Stockdale as the original member
Posted on 5 November, 2009 at 5:32 pm by Ben Creasey
Hi Demadred
Yeah, I got told off by someone in the office for that one… Whoops, and I thought I was a fan enough not to have to check my facts… obviously not!

Hi, I noticed this yesterday, wastn’t really sure where to post it…
But when you select “The Middle” by “Jimmy Eat World”, it streams “Lazy” by “X-Press 2″??? weird, LOL, might wana fix that. The other thing is, there are 2 versions of “Shut Up And Drive” by “Rihanna”, one is widescreen, one is not. Again, wierd, LOL. And once again, you might wana fix that.
Other than that, Good work, btw… I LOVE THE KEYBOARD TYPING for searching, admittedly it was a BLUDDY obvious feature that was SORELY missing, and EVERY1 i no noticed, but now its there, so i’m happy! But still, GOOD WORK ^^.
Posted on 5 November, 2009 at 5:39 pm by Ben Creasey
Hi Kicorro
I will have to look into that, thanks for the heads up.
The keyboard thing does make it a lot easier hey, I have to test videos all day sometimes and it used to drive me crazy too. Glad you like it.

Are you still getting “error updating catalogue” messages? We hope these issues have been fixed but please let us know if they haven’t!

Hi Ben,
There are also two versions of “My Band” by D12. Was hoping one was an uncensored version but both look to be the same.

Posted on 5 November, 2009 at 9:21 pm by Biker_J
First off, thanks for the update
, I love Slayer’s music!
Brilliant band they are, been listening to them for years!
On that note, while in vidzone today, I noticed, it does loose sync quite often huh? it didn’t seem to do this pre-update. (1.20 or something? latest one), by out of sync, I mean it’ll play a while, and then stop to load the rest, this is rather annoying
(If your head-banging, you may end up having to be half in headbang, and pause a minute..). It never used to do this, is this a known issue? and will it be fixed?
Folks, who have the cannot update catalogue error, I got this also, but I found a fix, just delete vidzone from XMB, re-download from store, and stuff, it should work after
worked for me.

Posted on 12 November, 2009 at 8:33 pm by Bullet_Ride474
Hey Ben
,
I’m glad to see you’re working on new genres, but could give me the status on genres like death metal and deathcore being added? I know you might not do it for a while because they’re fairly underground genres, but they have a wide userbase and you’re probably missing out on some downloads or visits because of the people who listen to this.
Any reply would be appreciated
