Hello everybody,
I am very happy to announce that adhoc Party will soon be launching in Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Lots of PSP games feature Ad Hoc Mode, which allows two or more players – each with a copy of the same title – to play together or share content via a wireless connection between their PSP systems. Before the introduction of adhocParty, players had to be in the same place, with their PSP™ systems no more than 10 metres apart, to enjoy Ad Hoc Mode. adhocParty changes that. Now you can connect your PSP to another PSP system in another location using your PS3 as a server to bridge the geographical divide. This means that you can make the most of the Ad Hoc Mode functions in some of your favourite games even when none of your friends or fellow players are close by!
adhocParty on PS3 also acts like a communication platform where players create “houses” where they can chat (via voice and text) in order to align themselves for the game play on their PSP. When entering the application 10 worlds are displayed. Every world is made up of 64 lobbies which the player can enter in form of an avatar. Up to 32 avatars can be within each lobby where houses are displayed. Each house represents a group of players who communicate around their specific game mission. Gamers can create their own house where they act as hosts and decide on the topic and the avatars entering the house.
Compatible games include Gran Turismo, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Dissidia Final Fantasy and Resistance: Retribution. The full list of compatible games will be announced nearer release.
To use adhoc Party you need to simply connect your PSP to a PlayStation3 system via a wireless network connection, then access adhocParty to find other players who want to play the same game as you. Just to note that to use adhocParty, your PlayStation3 system must be connected to the internet via a wired broadband connection.
adhocParty will be available from the PlayStation Store to download to the PS3 for free. So join the adhoc Party!
Thanks!
Adam

As a South African I am amazed that we were mentioned in the story.
Thanks
Question, will we be getting Vidzone? (dont think we have it)
Also, will SCEE try and put more influence of the Sony brand in SA? Seems like Europe, NZ and AU get some presence but little marketing in SA.
THanks again, cant wait to try out this feature when it debuts.

Will it also launch in North Africa and Middle East which are also SCEE regions ? Why do you always choose to ignore us ?!

You are right lazy–zombie, it is for owners of BOTH PSP and PS3, not for owners of psp. I think that the thing SONY is doing with the psp is converting it in a complement for the PS3. A shame.

Considering Remote Play allows the PSP to connect to the PS3 directly EVEN WHILE the PS3 is connected to a WiFi router, without using the router, I am baffled as to why all the talk is that the console must be connected via Ethernet?
I can connect my PSP to the SSID for Remote Play PlayStation(R)3 locally and browse the internet, or use the PS3 store, and the PS3 is it’s self connected to my router with the SSID echelon. So however it is done, the PS3 is capable of connecting to one network while also reacting a second.
Can we have some explanation as to the nature of this please, because it sounds like some poor communication internally if the rumours are indeed true.

reacting/creating. Dunno how that happened…

@nailerr
This is what I also want to know as well….

This may not be needed but should anyone not grasp what I meant above, I took some pictures as an example:

Blurred some details, but it will be clear what I (and lazy-zombie) mean.

I think we need offical word on why does are PS3′s need to wired….. plus couldn’t we just use the PSN on the PSP (because we can access the PSN store on the PSP can’t we. So we wouldn’t need ad-hoc because we use the PSN on the PSP instead…… Or am I wrong ?!?

I take it you’ll need up-to-date firmware to use this?
Might be time for me to buy a new PSP then (I have a Japanese Launch 1000 model, the UMD drive is on it’s last legs so I use CFW to run backups off the memory stick… I was holding out on details for turning my existing UMDs into legacies for the PSPgo but as that seems to have gone away I’ve held out on purchasing… though I might pick one up next year anyway).

I’d like to reiterate what t’others are saying…
Nice idea, good to have it coming at last, but there’s no way I can connect my PS3 via ethernet. Just noooooo way.
Such a shame that this great idea is hamstrung by such a massive drawback.

Well those interested, talking to some people the best reasoning I have heard so far is that a single WiFi radio may connect to one Infrastructure (WLAN) network while creating another, as it is the same sort of networking being done. AdHoc on the other hand is a separate aspect of WiFi networking and a single radio may not bridge Infrastructure to AdHoc.
I just wish this has been said from the start.

YEAH!! Now I’ll buy the new Monster Hunter because I’ll not booring in the single palyer campaigns, but I’ll be able to play with others!!
(Q.: Why so late? Europe is doesn’t matter so much as … ?)

@ 69
To be fair, the US only got their announcement on the same day as well. It’s late for both territories in relation to Japan if you argue that way…

I just would like to be able to move around my bedroom instead of being tethered to my PS3 :/
Why can’t I connect my PSP to my PS3 wirelessly then the PS3 connects to my wireless internet ????

@lazy-zombie – Unless what I said was wrong, the explanation I gave in post 68 should be the reason. If so it is a technicality and no-ones fault.
It may not be the reason, but I am trying to find realistic information to help here.

Hi Adam, When is the Playstation Network going to be available for PS3 owners in MOROCCO ?

Awesome! This sounds like it’ll work better than the multiplayer functionality built into some PSP games and make it much easier for some mplayer fun. Can’t wait to try it out

I don’t tget the WiFi issue. Why people would use that instead of the Gigabit Ethernet the PS3 has? Why limiting the max network speed to just 1/20 of what the PS3 can do?
Makes no sense.

Seriously, why isn’t it on the store yet? It’s been out in Japan for months, the Americans have, so why don’t we have?
I was excited to read this post originally and thought we were going to be getting it soon, not a month (or more…) after this blog was posted.
Not to say I’m disappointed that you told us about it, but it’s just frustrating to see PSN store updates go by that don’t contain Adhoc party.

Am I missing something, or is this still not in the EU PSN store yet? If it’s not out yet for whatever reason then fair enough, but why no updates regarding a release date when other regions already have it?
