The time has come, folks! The countdown’s over – we wait no more!
As promised, the FINAL FANTASY XIII developer team put together a special message to celebrate with you the history of the series and reveal new details of its latest – and long awaited – chapter.
But I won’t say more and leave the stage to the game Producer himself, who wanted to write a few lines for the occasion, exclusively for the PlayStation blog.
Enjoy – and let us know what you think about it!

You’ve got to be kidding me? This must be the worst choice of a theme song EVER. Terrible. Ugh.

Will the scene with Leona’s song be skippable?
It is awful, even more so when compared to the vastly superior Japanese theme. I’ve tried listening to it on YouTube but I have to give up after a minute.

1. Sorry…you lost me to White Knight Chronicles based on your lack of support on the PS3 for the first 3 years.
2. Why isn’t this on the US blog? Oh yeah…you’re cooking up exclusive marketing rights with Xbox in the US… and look…you’ve already have an Xbox Exclusive item to win *http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/splash/f/finalfantasyXIII/

firstly, yeah shepinator, i post a lot on thesixthaxis, well i’m not the most prolific but i’m one of the most opinionated, almost militant you might say.
sad face.
secondly, there’s a lot of people who don’t seem to like leona lewis, personally i think she’s amazing.
sure she got her start on a talent show, but you don’t win a talent show if you don’t have talent and you quickly get forgotten if you’re not good enough, but i think leona will be around for a long time.
i’ve heard the song they’re going to be using and it’s a beautiful song sung beautifully.
and i can’t wait for the game.
but i have to
still, not as long a wait as we had with previous final fantasy games, good to see square is now thinking more of their eu fans.

Meh… I thought the guy is going to introduce himself at the end of the video, I guess I was wrong.
Either way, great video and good to know the release date. Now I can plan my 3 weeks holiday next year.
Here’s still hoping for a dual-language voice over. And yes, I know it’s been confirmed already thanks to the “other one”.

I’m sorry but the song has no place in FF13. Unless you remixed it at all, it is far too light in comparison to the mood put by the song in the JP release. The energy is completely misplaced, changing the song changes the mood of the game by a simple theme.

Please. Square enix staff reading this blog: hear this SINCERE and unified reaction by the fans. Please. Understand why it was not the best decision to put Leona Lewis’ song as the Game’s theme song. It does NOT fit the game. AT ALL. IN ANY SENSE. AND it lacks the epicness of usual Final Fantasy songs. One listen to FFX’s suteki da ne and “to Zanarkand” and you know what I’m saying. It is powerful. “My Hands” is not.
And Please, if you really hear us, the fans, reply back. Don’t just keep quiet. Thanks so much for what will be an EPIC rpg otherwise

Will there be duel audio at all? even as payed DLC? i don’t care if the lips are out of sync the English dub sounds horrible with the damn accents they try to put on. Also i very much hate the change of theme song. Why has this been done? Normally the theme song would just be dubbed in English and for the most part sound decent. At least do what NIS or Atlus do when licensing issues arise for the song and give us a instrumental version, but the amount of money square enix has backing it i don’t see how they couldn’t afford to license the song over seas. Do they just hate the international market so much they would give us such a messed up version of the game? Why do we deserve an inferior product? I am not trolling in my questions, i really do wish to know the answer to these and would very much appreciate a person of higher power responding to comments that aren’t just good.

Dear Square Enix.
WHY FREAKING LEONA LEWIS?! That has got to be the worst decision you have EVER made >_>
君がいるから Was perfect for the theme song, why this crap?!!!
Drop the BS and use the original theme like you’ve done with the past.

This game needs to be released with custom soundtracks available so we can play the correct theme over the top of this daft replacement, at the very least.
Westernising the gameplay in FFXII was bad, but now Westernising the music too? Absolutely awful.

Microsoft is paying for that March 2010 release to give it something to go up against GoWIII and GT5, otherwise this game would have had worldwide Dec 2009 release on the PS3. No thanks SE, enjoy your money hat.

@ taurus82
No. I would’ve preferred an English cover of Kimi ga Iru Kara, similar to what Square Enix had done in the past with FFIX, X-2, XII, Kingdom Hearts and KHII.
Having Leona Lewis doing FFXIII’s theme song here hurts my SOUL, as the song is un-emotional, and nowhere near as epic as Kimi ga Iru Kara.
Uematsu had worked on this song for some time before he had to do FFXIV, so to see something that he partly worked on scrapped in favour for some soulless song by a talentless hack is insulting, not only to Uematsu, but also to Masashi Hamauzu (The person who made the OST), Sayuri Sugawara, and all the orchestral staff who worked on Kimi ga Iru Kara. An entire orchestra helped make Kimi ga Iru Kara. Like I’ve said, it’s insulting, their work has seemingly gone to waste.
It seems SE is basically giving us the finger and saying that they can’t sell the game on it’s own merits, so they have to rely on some talentless R’n'B hack’s merits. Put yourself in the music staff’s shoes and think about how they’re feeling right now.

A new type of trailer on video games, the presentation was gorgeos and wonderful like a anoucement of FF should be. Congats Square Enix for remember the history of FF showing the others logos from other episodies. The music was so cool and the final very excitanting. The Theme music is good, anyeway we know that theres many other musics in the game. Again, Congrats and we will see on MARCH 9! http://www.gamesreflexoes.blogspot.com

Even though moaning about this won’t change anything but I would still like to voice out my opinion about the Leona fiasco.
Looking back at previous FF games there isn’t any extra audio options so I think its safe to say that everything is decided and no matter what people say now, it won’t really help much =p.
Speaking as a fan I would much rather have the original Japanese score/audio/themes as well but I understand with the themes bit there is this licensing etc and that this is intended for a western audience. But I feel that nowsdays games from Japan are been westernised/altered so much it doesn’t feel like I playing something from its origin anymore (if this makes sense as its feels like I’m playing a changed local version). Like in other words I don’t think I can call this a “J”-RPG anymore since it has been altered so much. I have nothing against Leona, but she is intended for western so using her on this game that is of eastern origin doesn’t appeal to me. So having the original voices/themes would make more sense to me as I will be experiencing something in it’s originality instead of something that appeals mostly to the western audience.

*** Exceeded Character Limit ^^;
I will like to add as well that dubs of the voices in western releases aren’t done very well too (I understand the issue of people not understanding JP since I do, well spoken but not reading and writing =p. So this is where subs come in right? And also the audio change option for those who don’t like, this is the originality bit I was going on about before as I prefer something of its origin). A particular example is Yakuza 1 which was terribly done and while I was playing it, it felt it has lost its feel (A Japanese Yakuza speaking in a way like a westerner doesn’t go well right?). But I do admit in the rare cases some dubs are done very well and go with the theme, e.g. MSG4. For the record I still haven’t even finished FFXII yet (still something at the start) because I remember some English voices annoyed the living daylights out of me T_T.
There is also another theme Eternal Love sang by the same person in the JP version, is there any confirmation of another song in the international release?
Sorry again for the long post but this is just my thoughts =p

Will not be buying unless it has the option of Japanese audio. The English voice actors Square chooses for their games are so terribly bad. If Square cares for their loyal PlayStation fanbase, that being all the people who have bought every PlayStation Final Fantasy since VII, the LEAST you can do for these people (the customers that have made you the powerhouse company you are today) is add the Japanese audio. THE LEAST. Aswell as terrible English voice acting we now get a terrible singer in the game to pain our ears even more.
PLEASE SQUARE-ENIX THINK OF YOUR LOYAL PLAYSTATION FANS AND GIVE US WHAT WE WANT! JAPANESE AUDIO! IF YOU WANT THE GAMES TO BE THE SAME IN EVERY WAY ON THE TWO PLATFORMS, JUST OFFER THE JAPANESE AUDIO FOR XBOX 360 OWNERS AS DLC. I CAN GUARANTEE YOU THIS WILL MAKE ALL YOUR FANS ACROSS THE GLOBE EXTREMELY HAPPY, 100% ASSURED!
PLEASE!

For f*** sake people, It’s only one song!
A song that would probably only be played during the credits.
What’s with this constant stream of complaints?
How could one song ruin Final Fantasy?
And just a thought… Wouldn’t the song have to be approved by Hamauzu and other higher ups of the development team? You know, people who actually KNOW the game and it’s themes. You people know NOTHING about this game, what gives you the right to judge it like this?
NOTHING PLEASES YOU PEOPLE!
Also to people complaining about the 360 version “compromising” the PS3 version because there is no dual audio, they had never planned it in the first place. How can you take something out that wasn’t there in the first place.
It’s amazing how people react to the little things. A couple of months ago, everyone hated the Japanese theme song, saying it ruined FF. Now, apparently it’s what made FFXIII a great game.
You people need to grow up and actually think about the nonsensical ramblings you come up with before you say it. Maybe then you will realize what idiots you really are.

“What’s with this constant stream of complaints?”
As a fan all people has the right to express their own opinions. The audio/music/soundtrack is another signature component in the FF series, thats the reason for my moaning and for many others. I don’t mind the Leona song but personally I think it just doesn’t fit. As I’m playing JRPGs because I like its genre and by westernsing it like this, it feels that I’m going to be playing a tailored version not the original. Like with dubs for most games, the actors can’t express their roles and emotions as good because they are acting for something that is of another culture like a good example is yakuza 1. So I don’t think this is nonsensical.
“A couple of months ago, everyone hated the Japanese theme song, saying it ruined FF.”
Never heard anything about this =p
The only nonsensical complaining I think is idiotic is fanboys complaining about this being on the 360. I don’t see why this is a problem since more people/fans who don’t have a PS3 can play a potential good game.

Finally I was a release date.
I was hoping for a december release of Final Fantasy XIII.
The soundtrack is great.
I have a question for Antonio.
Does the Japanees release have English audio, text and suptitles?
If it does i’m going to import it.
Can’t stand the wait.

On PlayStation 3, we have blu-ray discs so i hope we will be able to change the theme song and vocals in general.
I don’t hate Leona Lewis but she must not do the FF XIII theme song.
A FF theme song must be WONDERFUL with a lot of emotions.
However, about the release date, i’m happy to see it in March but my wallet isn’t agree with it, GT5 and GoW III

Absolutely awesome!!! Can’t wait until 09.03.2010:-) I know Square Enix have more than outdone themselves on this release (as they always have:-)) It’s a good video too, well structured with some of the masterminds behind the project, game footage and presentation! It’s what we’ve all been watiting to see:-) Right Volcane7475 – FFXIII + GT5 + God of War III = mindblowing bliss, joyful insanity, sleepless nights, I could go on but, uget my point…hehehe:-)

Iv seen a lot of comments that have said what does one song matter or such to similar effect. One song makes a great difference. A great soundtrack can make or break a game. If the music fits the scene perfectly then people can be moved to tears, how ever if the song does not fit it will ruin the scene and depending on how critical it is to the plot potentially ruin the game. There have been a few games that have gotten rather low scores over all that iv really enjoyed simply because the music was perfect for it even if the game play wasn’t steller the music helped pull me into the game and make me feel how the characters feel.
In short one song can very much make a difference.

Hi everybody,
I think I know why you guys don’t think “My Hands” from Leona Lewis does not fit.
If you did what I automaticly did, that is refer the song to lightning it doesn’t fit and your right.
But reading the lyrics when listening to the song made me realize it probably refers to Snow and not Lightning.
Think of it, you will see it fits quit well.

**Exceeded limit
It is do-able, note FF7 AC, anime and films with original language and voice-overs. I’m sure others will agree with me that you will get a totally different atmosphere/feel/mood when watching a original compared to a dub. Plus wouldn’t adjusting lips to make it easier for voice-actors in the west waste more time instead of asking them to adjust to the original.
Plus it would be nice if SE actually makes some sort of answer to its fans questions like a simple no with brief explanation would suffice instead of us all guessing/ranting.
But despite me saying this and others moaning we are still going to get the game but which version =p?

PLEASE ADD JAPANESE AUDIO if possible, many of us just love the japanese language, especially when playing jrpg’s, plus it’s just always cooler to be able to play a game in it’s original language..I know it’s gotta be possible, lost oddysey on xbox360 did it too, atleast on the ps3 version where u got blu ray (would also be a great add-on for the ps3 audiance who had to ‘cope’ with FF13 not being exclusive anymore..)
