Hi everyone,
I just wanted to update you all on the current issues we know some of you are finding with SingStar at the moment.
First of all, I am really sorry to hear about the problems that you encountered after our software update (4.2). I am grateful to you for alerting us to these problems and I am aware that several serious bugs seemed to have slipped through our normally rigorous Quality Assurance (QA) testing.
These bugs included:
- SingStore songs being deleted from the hard drive
- Game crashing in the middle of a song
- Media file corruption
As soon as we were aware of these issues, the senior SingStar development team came together and have been working flat out to fix these issues with the aim of getting a patch out as soon as possible.
Due to the severity of these bugs there was a very real possibility of a “quick fix” actually making these problems worse and that is why we have opted instead for a very thorough development and QA test process to ensure that the problems that you are experiencing are resolved.
The good news is that the bugs have now been fixed and SingStar v4.30 is currently with our First Party QA (FPQA). The patch should pass by the end of this week. Once passed the patch will be sent to our Format QA teams (FQA) in Europe and America for final sign off which takes approximately 10 working days. After FQA approval is given the patch will be uploaded to the servers, this will take a day or two, and will then be ready for you to download. This gives us a target release date of the 1st of December (but, as always there could be a delay of a few days if FQA find any issues).
With regards to deleted songs some users unfortunately have been experiencing a reoccurrence of this bug preventing them from re-downloading their content. I wanted to emphatically reassure you that you have not lost anything. We have a receipt of everything you have bought and you will be able to safely re-download everything once SingStar v4.30 is released.
Whilst this has been a really unfortunate experience both for me, my team and especially for you, the positive side of this story is that we have now put in place several steps to ensure that this does not happen again, including a more vigorous QA period and, starting next year, a Closed Beta where SingStar fans will be able to experience new features before they are released.
I really am genuinely grateful to you for keeping the faith, and I would really appreciate your contribution to participate in future closed Beta sessions and feedback on these thus helping to identify any problems before the release of any future SingStar update. More details of how to participate in these will follow.
I sincerely apologise for the problems you are experiencing. This has been our top priority and the team and I have been working all hours to resolve these unfortunate issues.
In a bid to be as open and honest as we can with you, the team and I are online now to answer any questions you may have about this, and we’ll be here all day, so please let us know your comments below. We’ll do our best to answer as many as we can.
Thank you once again for being patient,
best wishes,
Dave Ranyard
SingStar Game Director

SingStar is not my genre but I want to comment on copy protected save games:
Copy protected save games are one of the most annoying things. I understand that you don’t want people to cheat on the trophies.
But other games show there’s a better solution:
Bind the save game to the PSN account. Usage with other accounts is not possible or at least trophies can only be unlocked with the original account.
Motorstorm 2 and Resident Evil 5 were shipped with copy protected save games. The devs listened and removed the protection with a patch.
Spread this to other devs!
Thank you for coming here.

Hello from the USA. If you are still taking suggestions I have one. Something needs to be done with the Rap Meter. There is little to no feedback on what you are doing wrong.
Also we are dying without the UMG artists over here.

Just a little thing but is there any chance of a vocal warm-up update? Perhaps a bit like the vocal warm-ups in one of the Disney Sing It games.
Would be nice to have an estimated difficulty rating for each song too like Rock Band does.
Probably mentioned loads already but Singstar should really have an online sing-off feature. Rock Band 2 has this and the ability to hear what the other person is singing if they press R2 (even with the lag it is still good). Now Activision have followed suit and have a feature in Band Hero where singers can battle for the highest score. Another feature in Band Hero is that you can have up to 4 singers all at once. Isn’t it about time that Singstar had these feature?

Another vote here for Singstar Musicals.
Also, I don’t think it’s on in the UK yet (correct me if I’m wrong), but the new TV show ‘Glee’ is ripe for some Singstar treatment. Ideally the songs featured in the show each week would be available for download from the store as they’re featured (they release the songs this way on iTunes), but any way of having the songs & videos would be great.
I’ll also back up the comments about DRM. I understand that it needs to be there, but it’s very restrictive at the moment. I recently purchased an additional PS3 (one in the home theatre and one for the main TV downstairs) and wanted to move the content onto the new machine. It’s not really an issue for me to have the content on multiple machines (although it would be nice to be able to have all my songs on both machines), but if it must be tied to a single machine, it should be easier to choose which machine it’s on.
I would provide an option to make all content available for download again, which would at the same time delete all content from the current machine. Would certainly ease the calls on support to sort out these issues too.
Besides that, keep up the great work!

Hi. The disk swap capability is great (being used to the PS2 functionality). How about allowing swapping of out-of-region PS2 SingStar disks (so my UK PS2 SingStar collection doesn’t collect dust on my US PS3).

hello
I’m having problem with switching disks…all PS2 disks works, besides original Singstar PS2 disk (PAL), after I insert the disk, it will load to 100% and then hangs…only way to quit is push the “Playstation” button and afters that ps3 will do automatic restart

hello,
you got many good customer feedback & ideas in this singstar blog.
Perhaps you should implement a “customer feedback & ideas” page. On this page the fans can vote for the ideas.
You can see an example on: http://wdtv.uservoice.com/pages/17442-general

Can I suggest an RPG-like system of how many songs you’ve played co-op etc, time you spent online, songs bought. I love watching at that kind of stuff.

It is nuts that have download same update again and again for SingStar 1, 2, Queen. So wouldn’t it be possable if we could stop having updates per each Singstar tittle disk. Wouldn’t it be a better idea to allow each disk to go one central update file on PS3. Now for the older Singstar disk all you have to do is release an update that makes it look for this central update file and use this.

Hi,
I think that one of the worst bugs / problems comes from Singstar´s Servers. We usually get errServer SS-7 while trying to access MySingstar Online, while try to open Galery window, while watch media…
I wrote a post on English PlayStation forum about four big bugs with WarData account, some of them maybe get solved in future, but I didn´t find anything about SS-7 error Server saying it will be solve…You will try to do anything with that?
Regards and thanks for begin to hear Singstar users,

I logged on to my SingStar game today and all the songs I have downloaded are gone? When I look in the transaction history I can see the record of the songs. If for some reason they were deleted from the hard drive…. is there anyway to get them back?
Thanks

If we have had our songs deleted from the update… while we are waiting for the release of the new patch, can we re download the songs we had purchased that were erased?

Dave: “another good idea… we’re getting some great suggestions on this blog today.”
Well Dave, we do that all the time (a lot of these ideas date back from the start of the blog) but there hardly ever changes anything.
Great to fix the mess you guys made but the proces is soooooooo slooooowwwww! I won’t be playing or downloading anything until 2010 so I’m sure there are no stinkers is the fix.

Hi Dave,
Just a quick feature request:
I have been playing Singstar since it’s inception and have scored over 9500 points on literally hundreds of songs.
Since the scoreboard rates at 500 point increments, there really should be another level for 9500.
Informally my friends and I refer to 9500+ as ‘SuperSingstar’ but feel free to call it what you like.
Also, it would be cool to see song stats on the carousel when choosing songs, ie: highest placing in the UK or US charts, how many weeks there, year of release etc. good trivia for non-playing guests.

Hi Mike.
I’m also finding myself being locked out of all the latest 12/11/2009 update songs. I’ve tried the logging out and back in to PSN suggestion, as well as the other suggestion of going in and out of the locked tracks several times.
Any other possible workaround?
Thanks.

Hi Dave
I have a few ideas you might like to discuss adding to singstar.
>>Could it be a option to have a categoes menu like on singstore with the choices like pop rock r & b etc but also song decades like 50′s 60′s 70′s 80′s 90′s,00′s.
>>Switch songs on a off (such as christmas songs for the rest of the year) and retain them on the hard-drive.
>>When highlighting a song would it be possible to say little bits of info like how many days since the song was last sang and how many times in total it’s been sang, top score on easy/normal/hard.
>>Have the leader boards split so you have 6 instead of 3. 3 long and 3 short leader boards.
>>Only 1 Identy on the leader board. Some of the board as full of just me or my partner and we forget how high are own top score is. Or could be listed at bottom of board on board screen.

Just a few request and I it’s early for christmas songs but I know you need time to get though all the red tape.
>Aerosmith – I don’t want to miss a thing
>Meatloaf – You took the words right out of my mouth (already on PS2)
>Pink Floyd – Another Brick In The Wall
Christmas songs
>The Pogues – Fairytale of New York
>Wham – Last Christmas
>Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You
>Shakin’ Stevens – Merry Christmas Everyone (Avalible in general store not just song pack)
>Band Aid – Do They Know It’s Christmas?
One last thing would it be possible to to be considered for the beta team I have over 400 songs on singstar if that make a difference (including discs).

Hey guys
Thanks again Mike for the heads up. Unfortuntly I couldnt get all 400 downloaded in time (the house where the party was didnt have internet) but tis was due to the fact my little brother turned my PS3 off after I had spent half an hour re-downloading all the songs!
Which brings me to my suggestion, on the purchase history a filter of songs already on HDD and not would be useful, and possible a ‘download all’ option? Its only a minor thing but would be very helpful for people like me who either buy a new PS3 or upgrade the HDD.
Cheers

Hi Mike, Nina
Wanted to start by saying a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to you both. Not many game developers would take the time & effort to keep their fanbase updated, we really appreciate it.
- I only own the Volume 1 PS3 disc, but have then bought 200+ songs, I like having everything on the same carosel. Will the older PS3 discs (like mine) continue to get the software updates for the forseeable future?
- Could you please introduce a way to filter medleys out of the carosel?
- The ability to create your OWN MEDLEYS from purchased songs would be awesome too!
- On licencing, we all see the likes of Guitar Hero & Rock Band increase their online libraries very quickly, sometimes with much more varied content than SingStar. Do you ever get reservations from Record Companies/artists to cooperate because this is a singing game, and maybe they don’t see it as ‘cool’ as the band games? It’s frustrating that licencing has to be different for both SingStore & discs, and I really hope you do everything you can to close the gap between the 2, and vary the content away from pop.
Keep up the great work!!
Mike

hi there,
good to see you’re starting to take community feedback onboard. this is an awesome game but the additional support would really keep the fans happier than they are right now i guess.
this isn’t feedback per se, but more of a suggestion, which i’m surprised you haven’t thought of already…(?)
there needs to be a mode whereby you can just use singstar as a video jukebox, with the option – of course – to randomly jump in and murder it with your own interpretation of the vocals =D
oh and while i’m here – why no more U2 than two songs? that back catalogue is one seriously juicy cash cow waiting to be milked, again and again…
ps – you can send me a cut of the profits from my video jukebox idea, i won’t be greedy; let’s call it quits at a nice even 20%

My question…When are the servers going to be able to cope with simply going from screen to screen in the online menus? It has been terrible since launch as the game waits to stream the content for each menu. (btw, it’s not my connection as everything else is fine!). This has frustrated many people who I have played Singstar with as we try and download more songs.
You can’t even quit to the Singstar main menu if you realise it is going to take forever, you can only sit there and wait.
Thanks
Paul

Hey,
i got another suggestion for you guys. I’m not the only one who would love to see a tool to make your own (micro-)medleys for Singstar. It would be awesome to mix both disc and singstore songs. Maybe you could take a look at that or pass it on to your colleagues…

Singstar sucks…. we got so many lags and yet Sony accepts it. About time you guys are doing something about it. I am not planning to purchase anything from the store anyway. By just logging online with constant lag was a very bad start and a poor sign of reliability. Maybe Sony should stop ripping us fellow consumers off too with the purchasing of online music. Honestly Sony I would rather invest my money on games rather than the music for singstar. I am not planning in the near future to purchase anything on the singstore or whatever its called. I don’t know why I bought Singstar in the first place because Volume 2 has a bad collection of songs and 92% of them are boring as hell.
Bleh thanks Sony! Boring start with Singstar

Hey Singstar Team,
Can you please release more details to the US Singstar Community about future releases? To be honest, the lack of support is poor compared to Europe, and I don’t even care about the fewer new releases we get each week.
Given that, would it be possible you guys to do something like this post on the US Playstation Blog?
Finally, I had preordered Singstar Motown for the October 13th release here in the US, and was very disappointed when it was pushed back and then canceled.

I also have a dlc request for songs from artists already on the Singstore:
Duran Duran – Come Undone, A View to A Kill
Killers – Human
The Clash – London Calling
Tears for Fears – Head over Heels
Spandau Ballet – Only When You Leave
David Bowie – China Girl, Modern Love
Thanks again!

Hi
Thank you all for your feedback and questions. Although we could not reply to everyone we have read through all of your comments. There have been some fantastic ideas, some of which the team already have planned for the future and some new ideas that our design team are looking at now. The SingStar 4.30 update is progressing well and we hope to be in Format QA by Tuesday night. We are also upgrading our servers around the time of the 4.30 release and this is also on schedule.
Thank you once again for being patient
Kind Regards

Hi Dave,
I am from the US and was wondering why our Singstore updates are so small and not as much to pick from as the Europe updates. Is it because of the small install base in the US? I tried posting on the US Playtstation blog about it but never got a response. We just need someone to shed some light into this situation because I am not the only that wondering why our updates so small.
Also why is the wireless Mics not released in the US yet? I imported mine and I think they are great mics even better than the wired mics. My friends want to get them too but do not want to import them.
Love the game but just a little disappointed with the US updates.
Thanks
135
Posted on 16 November, 2009 at 8:57 pm by Rockstarmd
Yeah, I completely agree with Dragon_Freeman the amount of updates are very, very small. If they at least updated the store with songs that were on previous ps2 discs that would already be a vast improvement. Is there any reason why those ps2 songs are not on the store already you should already have the rights and stuff to the songs. Also when will US get the wireless mics you would think they would have rolled this out to all the regions I have been waiting for them since they first announced them in april. Appreciate you guys getting feedback from the community it was much needed. Biggest thing is better music selection and better support of US users we play the games also.

I wish the highscore tables only had each player’s best score. My wife and daughter are much better than the rest of us and soon monopolise all the highscore tables. So we never get to see our personal bests

Also another thing with Singstar…. Why cant we get an option to purchase microphone with SingStar Volume 2 either wireless or wired microphones… what if someone like me wanted wireless ones? What we have to purchase an extra two for the sake of it? Come on give us an option!

My wish list:
1) Sort SingStore tracks by date released
2) Optionally link player names to PS3 profiles on the PS3.
3) Speed up the servers.
4) Tweak the voice recognition to be able to understand ‘Leona Lewis’!
5) fix ‘auto calibrate’ lag – whether the mic is 10cm from the tv speaker, 30cm or 0cm – it simply states that calibration was unsuccessful
6) Allow pictures to be added as player photos – we don’t all have Eye Toys.
7) Allow SingStar discs to be downloaded onto the PS3 HD (in the same was as GH5).
9) Fix rap scoring – way too hard and not fun.
10) Lower the requirements for all online-based Trophies – having trophies we can’t control is unfair.
11) Add a Stats screen to show us how many battles, duets, solos we have played.
12) For each song, show when itwas last sung, and how many times.
13) On the leaderboards, show whether a song was achieved on the ‘normal’ or ‘short’.
14) Create online leaderboards.
15) Add me to the SingStar beta / testing team

Hi! ANASTACIA RECQUEST
I Would really love some more song from Anastacia! She has so many good nr 1 hits, but only one song in Singstore. There where two more songs released on singstar games to PS2, Left Outside Alone & Sick N Tired why are they not available on Singstore?. What about a Anastacia pack or two? Its Really time for uploading more of her song to the store.
Would love some more of her songs like:
Cowboys and Kisses
Not That Kind
Why’d You Lie To Me
You’ll Never Be Alone
One Day In Your Life
Sick N Tired
Left Outside Alone
Heavy On My Heart
Welcome To My Truth
Pieces of A Dream
I Can Feel You

Quick question, has the dodgy patch been pulled? What with Christmas coming the ol’ singstar is going to get an airing again but I don’t want to download the patch if it breaks things. Was it removed when the bugs were discovered or will it still prompt me to download the patch?
I just want to know so I can play offline if need be until 4.3 comes out.

Hello, I would like to suggest some major improvments to Singstar.
Being a fan, I buy almost every version of singstar, so, here it comes:
1) The new discs should be available in the singstore – I have lots of them and can’t play – in the same game – songs from two of them.
2) We should be able to create our own playlists from our carroussel. I have some friends who just want to sing rock, others R/B, etc.
I think those two are major improvments that should be made.
Thanks

Is there any news on version 4.3? I can no longer log in to my account through Singstar and all tracks saved on my HDD have been wiped. A ridiculous situation considering the amount of money I have spent on this game, and with Christmas around the corner too.

I did exactly what I was supposed to with lost songs from update I deleted & re-downloaded. Every song I downloaded prior to 2/18/09 is gone out of my purchase history. How am I supposed to get those songs back? I don’t think I should have to pay for songs I already paid for because update deleted all my stuff.
