Also £8.99 to buy an SD/compressed download full of DRM? Please, I never pay more than that for a top quality, packaged, take anywhere, BLU-RAY!
Looks like I’ll be sticking to LoveFilm and the 3 for 2 style Blu-ray offers for the foreseeable future. I was expecting as much, but I was hoping Sony would surprise me…
I would ask if/when TV shows would be available, but I can’t see the point – I’m guessing it will be £1.59 per SD episode rental based on the ripoff movie rental prices. Let’s see now, 23 episodes a season x £1.50 = £34.50 to rent a full season. I’ll take the £17.99 nicely packaged DVD boxset to keep forever thanks…

judging from the uk playstation video store website both Transformers and The DaVinci code are both £6.99, so I suspect thats what back catalogue titles will cost (probaly sd) and £8.99 For HD.

These cost far too much – £9 for a download SD? I could nearly buy a BD for that.
Renting, fine, but i can’t see myself buying anything from here if they all cost that much

Why do the UK, France, Germany and Spain always get things first. Don’t you p*ssy out now. Tell us NOW! It makes me real angry!

Great fun for some people, not so fun for others like myself. But hey, what can you do but wait. And wait. And wait some more.
But at least we start to see some progress when it comes to implementing new features. You got to enjoy the little things. Like Woody Harrelson said in zombieland…

if we buy a movie what means “forever” in comparision to a movie in blu-ray disc? can we still see the movie in the future on the next playstation systems? i hope so, otherwise i prefer to buy a movie in disc format. please answer.

I think this has already been asked, but not answered. When you say UK does this also mean Ireland as it does in so many other circumstances?

I don’t get why people are getting annoyed that new users get a free copy of an old film. If it was Transformers 2, I might understand…

I hope announcements to other countries aren’t too far behind (especially since you took TVNZOnDemand away from us kiwi’s!)

Oh please god, let Transformers be a free download for existing playstation 3 users. If not I am going to turn the lights off and cry.

And then they found out it isn’t working right away even in the big countries. And they don’t put much effort in it any longer. Then they release it in other countries without any new movies.
Sorry but if you release it, release it all over europe please..

How come no buying option for HD? Will there be 5.1 audio on the films? Atleast on HD films? If only stereo, i’ll stick to the almighty bay thank you very much.
And as usual, Norway, or should i say Scandinavia is left out again. For how long? Is it 2 or 3 years ago Tretton said on E3, that Video Store was soon coming to other countries than USA? How come Microsoft has been able to launch theire service here already?
Scandinavian release date for Video Store please.

Yeah the pricing is a problem. When Tesco are doing 2 for 1 on Blu Rays and many of those disks are priced at £15 each, then selling an SD film with no extras and tied to one console for such a high price is commercial suicide. Lots of people will try it as a novelty (as I did with the 360s new 1080p instant-on service, which works extraordinarily well but is similarly ridiculously overpriced) but I can’t see it catching on unless the prices are hugely reduced to reflect the lower value of the product being provided.
If Blu-Rays can be bought for £7.50 (i.e. 2 for £15), then an HD download without extras and with restrictive DRM is worth no more than £5.
Consider another example, the Blu-Ray of Star Trek can be picked up for about £18 in the first week of release. It contains a disk of the film, which can be easily transported and played on any Blu-Ray player in the world (it is region-free), it comes with another Blu-Ray loaded with extras, and it comes with another disk with a digital copy of the film which you can tie to your iTunes account which can be activated on several computers and portable devices simultaneously. That really puts into perspective the ludicrous price of £9 for a single SD download.

So Transformers for free only to new customers? Existing users won’t get some love too? A bit dissapointing if that’s true…

Over priced (£8.99 for an SD film – I can get DVD’s for £1- £3)
Plus shunning those who have stuck with the PS3 since the start.
Why can’t the “hardcores” be rewarded for once?
Cheers Sony

Like game downloads, retailers are a consideration here.
Prices are higher than they really should be because they have to balance value with keeping disc retailers happy.
I would never buy a film download anyway, and I can’t see myself renting either…. would like to, finally, see Angels and Demons though.
As for no rewards for people there from day 1, Sony sent me a copy of Casino Royale on Blu-ray for being one of the first to sign up to PSN.

I have to say this doesn’t interest me, and I don’t understand why anyone would want to risk downloading a movie to their PS3 HD when a DVD/BlueRay disc is much more stable (doesn’t fragment) and portable (not limited to playback in PlayStation hardware).
The service might be handy for PSP owners wanting to rent and watch a movie on the go, or for extremely lazy people who can’t be bothered to visit the local movie store, but I can’t think of other uses for this service.

Free film for new users, already existing users get nothing. Nice one sony way to say thankyou to the people that supported you from the beginning.

I wish you’d given a better choice of films for the freebie for existing users. Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons are naff.

Quick question here.
Can I buy a movie and have it on both my PS3 and PSP at the same time, or is it only available to be played on one device or the other?
92
Posted on 18 November, 2009 at 10:31 pm by geddesmond2
Well if Ireland isn’t included in this release date, then Sony can start giving us games on a tuesday like the rest of the people who have to wait. I’ll be very [DELETED] off if we arn’t included. I’ve been waiting 4 monthss for this store and even topped up my wallet for it.
93
Posted on 18 November, 2009 at 10:31 pm by Pure_Mind_Games
so people who’ve had a PS3 since launch get 2 naff films, 1 of which we have to buy but new customers get a good film? hardly seems fair, who thinks up these promotions? cos they’ve got a screw loose somewhere
94
Posted on 18 November, 2009 at 10:40 pm by Frini
How long we have to wait? That’s the same with VidZone

ohh yess a video store for europe… finally…..ohh wait
96
Posted on 18 November, 2009 at 10:48 pm by majorRaj
LOL so it’s true existing customers don’t get Transformers or any free movie. This just really shows how bad Sony are with promotions, I mean new customers may not even know about this promotion unless they advertise on TV. I don’t think new users come to this website to view blog posts. I don’t know why Sony come up with these promotions, its always the early adopters who end up being shafted. It happened with the PSP, now it’s happening with the PS3 (including the GOW III demo). Maybe I won’t be an early adopter next time.
I think that in Europe each country needs a PlayStation team so that it’s a unified service. Its just not hapenning for Sony this generation.

You gotta laugh…today we Facebook..well ummm..we did not!
So I wouodnt bank on getting this service tomorrow…I think its some kinda in house sony prank on the consumers…and why is beyond me?
Treat consumers like dirt and they will bite back…so what happened to Facebook?
I serioulsy doubt this is coming at all and the movies…well…you got some games…….

@S-E-G:
“about PlayStation, different features and options around the world, with xbox, everything is in sync world wide”
lol!. zune marketplace is only available in 7 territories, and XBLM is only available in 15 european countries, whereas there are 25 european ps stores, as well as PSN being officially supported in another 23. what it might do better is coordinate its content for territories where they have same offerings.
