I bought a new PS3 Slim las Saturday because my old 60Gb PS3 broke the night before. So I registered my new PS3 with my account. Am I going to get the movie? Because I haven’t received any email with the download content, and I’m not going to create a new PSN account just to get the movie.
I already have it on BluRay, so if I don’t get the movie, I can live with it, but there are several problems with the Video Store:
- Very expensive, both buy and rent, and both SD and HD. With this prices, I prefer to buy a BluRay.
- The movies only include one language and no subtitles. I buy in the Spanish Store, so all movies are in Spanish. I like to see all movies in original version (with subtitles if I can, and if not, without them), so I don’t think I’ll buy any movie in the Video Store unless it changes.

Can’t believe the Video Store is such a screw up. All of the content you need to release is already on DVD, you just need to transfer that digital data to the store with full 5.1 audio etc. I don’t see how you guys need to wait for all of this when it’s readily avaliable on DVD and Blu-Ray already, especially your own films!!
Sorry, but I think someone at SCEE needs to step up and start demanding this content to keep customers happy and address these bloody pricing issues, the prices are pathetic
I wish someone there would have the decency to come out and talks to us about why these films are priced so high, and why SD sterio films cost more than a lot of blu-ray films on the market.
Someone, anyone, please respond, people are growing tired and you can’t ignore this, MANY people are dissapointed.

Plus, fifty movies a week? Why didn’t you say, fifty movies spread out across different territories? Very misleading and false advertising

I won’t be using this service myself until the prices are sorted out. Why would I buy a film in SD for £11.99 when I can order the same film online or go to a shop and get the physical disk for £3?
I can sincerely say that the future is not digital download if it’s going to constantly be overpriced.

Case in point: Ace Ventura costs less than £3 on amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ace-Ventura-Pet-Detective-DVD/dp/B0 0004D2Y3/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1259342443&sr=8-3
Or you can buy the box set of both movies for less than £5. You also get all the special features and Dolby Surround Sound.

Dear Olga,
Thanks for replying to my fellow countryman about Ireland getting the Video Store, but is it possible that you could tel us if it will be late or early 2010 please? I was really looking forward to this service and was devestated when I found out we weren’t getting it at launch…
I hope my polite comment gets me a reply…;)
Yours Sincerely,
Phillip Costigan

Can you please tell me, why is Harry Potter (and some others) more expensive than others (4,99 € for SD rental,…)? Even in the iTunes store their up for 3,99 €.
So, whats up with that?

Why is it taking over 20 hours to download these films? A 6Gb HD rental took 20 hours last weekend. An 8Gb HD rental has been downloading since 7pm yesterday and is only at 89% nearly 24 hours later.
On top of that the rental period starts when the download begins, so I’ve already lost 2 days of rental.
Nothing wrong with my broadband either, I can download at over 600kbps from other sources.

People are complaining about the service to soon. Right now its probably just finding its feet before its constant stream of updates, and HD movies.

Seany1, you could go rent terminater from an actual rental shop. The video store’s up 1 week here and you’re being aggresive as always. Anywhere that lets you rent Die Hard in HD is an instant win in my eyes

Short Summary of the video store for me so far:
1) way to expensiv, the movies are CHEAPER on DVD in regular stores!
2) Stereo sound… anyone able remember the last time a movie released on DVD with only stereo sound?
3) Point 2) ontop of Point 1) as charging a PREMIUM price for worse quality does not fit in my “fair business” window.
4) laughable selection of HD movies, and again .. STEREO SOUND with HD Movies is a NO GO.
I’ll stick to mailorder rental services instead, as they offer way better prices for way better material.
Sorry to say, for me the video store is anything but a success.

Everything is way too overpriced.
There are movies for sale that have been out on DVD for years and that you can buy for like £3-5 now. Yet a digital only copy is costing 2-4 times that?
Who is Sony trying to kid? Even the RENTAL prices for most movies is more than the cost to BUY as a physical copy.

“You get free The Da Vinci Code when you buy Angels and Demons”
Hello Olga!
I’ve a question for you please ! I would like to buy Angels and Demons, but actually, the film is not in HD and the offer with The Da Vinci Code (not in HD too) expiring soon…
What can I do
?
(Sorry for my english, i’m French lol)

Could there be a way of renewing rentals, perhaps for less than the normal rental price?

Posted on 27 November, 2009 at 7:54 pm by castlenr16
Dear Olga,
to say first, I think the Video Store is on the right way. As far as I can tell now quality and speed is ok, though I didn´t rent or buy a movie yet.
The only things I miss (as many others do) are:
- 5.1 Sound
- HD for all movies (if available)
- the price is a little bit high at the moment (I use a mail rental service with Blue Ray Discs at the moment, which is cheaper)
But I would pay that price if HD and 5.1 Sound is available. I would prefer to use the Video Store instead of renting by mail.
Cheers and have a nice weekend.

How am I a fanboy? Every time you post, you whine about how nothing’s good enough, hence “aggresive”. Also, It’s 5 times, not 1. So if being a fanboy means not crying like a 12 year old who’s crusts aren’t cut off his sandwiches at lunchtime because everything’s not available in every single possible way at one single point in time, then probably about 95% of people are fanboys. That’s not to say the stores perfect, far from it. I’d just like to see you do a better job

king zombie u clearly know nothing have u even bought anything off store its not 5 downloads for video store its 1 . after u download a film its disapears off download list . u clearly dont have a clue .

Add me to those who want to have original language audio and not dubbed. I think the selection is ok for the first week around but the lack of original version makes a no deal for me. I’m spanish but can’t stand dubbed movies, no matter which language they are. So please have the option of downloading the movie with original audio and I will be renting right away.
Regarding purchases, well, the movies are rather expensive taking into account 1) no 5.1/TruHD audio, 2) propietary DRM format without the option of backup to external devices and 3) price… just go to amazon and get any of those movies for a price below for 10-20€.

highest concern is for the poor people actually buying these films unaware that if ps3 breaks be it a year or 2 down the line u are screwed u lose everything . even if u back up as its copy protected to the hdd u purchased it from . anything to add olga

The Funny Sony Folks need a serious wake-up call. 15 euros for the crappy SD version of Dark Knight, when we can buy it new on *Blu-ray* at Amazon UK for 10 euros? I almost laughed out loud.
I was reasonably curious about the PSN video store, but with this kind of prices and quality, there’s no way I’m gonna give it a try.

Absolutely loving the “rental” service, good films at good prices.
I am inclined to agree with some other peoples comments though about the “to own” service, some of the titles seem to be a little overpriced since there are some great deals out there, and download speeds really are a bit of a nuisance. I’m running on 10 meg and it still takes well over an hour to download a movie.
I dont suppose there is any chance of a “try before you buy” service where if you rent a movie then decide you want it you can get the rental price off of the buy price if purchased within a limited time span of say 28 days??? I think this would really get people to be more inclined to buy, I know I would.

Dear Olga.
Thanks for putting up with our angry comments, and thanks for giving customers replies to topics they really care about.
You see, most of us are here, not because we love to b*** and wine, but because we actually care about your platform and products.
I love my PS3 as I loved my PSP, my PS2 and my PSOne. The videostore seems like a good expansion to an already great platform ‘that only does everything’.
I can’t wait until the videostore is launched in Norway. But I have some concerns that I would like to raise about the service. I know most of these have been raised before, and I suspect you have been answering them as well as you could. Still, I feel the need for raising them once more so that the business can see that there are lots of frustrated customers out here. Hopefully, some day they will show signs of listening.
(continued below…)

Posted on 28 November, 2009 at 12:51 am by Karl314
One of my main concerns is how the business (not just Sony) is artificially segmenting the market. I would much prefer to see an international videostore, with one launch date and common content for all PS3 owners.
‘Frustrated’ is a euphemism for what I feel, seeing content being provided in one area months and years before it’s available in my area.
Furthermore, SD and stereo sound is not appropriate at this day and time. I stopped buying and renting DVD’s when I bought my PS3. Without proper HD and surround, I will still look for other ways of getting my content. I’m still not to lazy to walk down to the video store.
Prizing is also an issue. My limit is around 3£ a rental as a commodity service. When you prize it above that level, I will probably turn to a cheaper past-time. (Hey, surfing is ‘free’ as the cost is hidden in a monthly subscription rate.) Anyways, rental is 1£ in the US. We are ‘right’ to be pissed about being treated differently.
(continued below)

I would love to see TV-shows on the video-store. If you put the biggest shows up there, and make them available the day they run, I will stop subscribing to my cable company and spend my money in your store instead. Add subscription, and I will be one happy customer. (I spend 40£ a month on cable subscription. (Not happy about the cable company either).
I would love to see all content being available in the store. There are many countries out there besides the US that produce great content. I watch a lot of Spanish and German movies, and have to turn to import to get them. Also, I watch a lot of anime, something that I would like to see in the store.
So. What I’d like is to get the same content as the Americans, the Brits, the French and the Japanese. This should be high-quality content (come on, you’re Sony, that’s what you do), at an affordable prize.
Provide this, and you will prosper!

Part 1 of my post
Hey guys, firstly just want to say well done on the Playstation Video store. I think it is an excellent addition to the network and i am very impressed with the collection inititally available. Especially the new releases being cheaper then high street prices of the same release for SD.
I enjoy how we can also have them on up to 5 systems, giving me a chance to transfer it to my psp when i buy them. I feel i can watch them whilst i travel and on the big screen, combined much cheaper then buying dvd/umd seperately for the same film. I was just pondering a few things, firstly on the ps3 could there be an option to view the entire collection, similar to the psp options, i found this a great adition when looking through considering which ones id want to buy. Secondly i was wondering how often the special offers will come out? would it be bogof offers, or discounts? And are the cheapest english owned price always going to be £6.99?

Part 2 of my post
Thanks again guys, keep up the good work and im totally looking forward to comics come december! also i totally agree with the comment above about the trial, it would be great to have an option avaliable to you, perhaps 12 hours, a week or something after you viewed the film to make it a full purchase and it takes the difference between renting and buying, i could see this being very useful for us and profitable. Keep up the good work and nice selection guys, Playstation rules!

@seany1 I brought ghostbusters for use on my psp go and still have it in my list to download all b it on my psp/pc store. I have been able to download the movie again!
Only issue I see is I can’t get it on my ps3 as it’s linked to my psp now, I think scee need to look at their store model as it’s currently poor an poorly thought out.
Digital distribution should be the future not set us back and increase costs to te end users!!
Please excuse te typos it’s almost 4am and I am on my iPhone lol. Least with iTunes if I buy a HD movie I get the sd version free! SCEE check out what ur competition maybe then u will get things right.

I think it is obvious the video store has it´s worked cut out for them. 1. Original Version Language (English) for all countries in movies with the option of subtitles and or voice over in the countrie´s original language, 2. HD Video content it´s almost 2010!!! is it a SONY PS3 I´ve got or Nintendo Wii or is it Xbox, 3. HD audio 2 channel stereo pretty embarassing, while most games are either Blu-ray 720P 5.1 dolby surround and above and multiple languages I wouldn´t think it be that hard to figure out that we wouldn´t want any less from the Video Store. Anyways, good luck!

For such an anticapated and incredibly late service I never thought I would see so many negative comments and so many people dissapointed with what for me looks like a very poor start to something that should really be quite amazing.
I havent used the video store yet and wont be any time soon. I would have to agree with pretty much everything I have read, the prices are far too high. Blockbuster do 2 Blu-rays for £5 rental, thats full HD with surround sound and subtitles if needed, not to mention the plethora of extras that come on the disc.
I have heard the download times are shocking even for people with super fast connections, its sureley quicker to go to the shop or even order online!
Honestly this should have been a great service a YEAR ago but instead its an unfinished or even unprepared service that is seemingly outdated before its had a chance to bloom fully in europe.

Dont blame everyone from moning the videos are overpriced and you can only download bought content once, my 18 month old playstation broke and sony quite rightfully said tough luck out of gaurantee, but i would be a bit teethed if i had to repurchase 100s pounds in videos.
I wont be creating a video collection on my new ps3, I’ll be sticking to blu ray and dvd much more reliable and cheaper, one good out come, I wont be needing the new 250gb slim ps3…..
