Hello everybody!
Its almost the weekend so perfect timing for an update on what’s happening at the video store this week.
Firstly thank you all for making the video store launch a big success and for all of your feedback. We are looking into your questions and concerns and will be able to address most of them very soon.
A quick reminder about 2 promotions that are still running in the UK, France, Germany and Spain. Hope you don’t miss out on our offers as they are only valid for 5 more days and expire on Monday November the 30th
2 Dan Brown’s masterpieces for the price of one: Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code. How does it work? You buy Angels & Demons at the video store and we will e-mail you the voucher for SD digital download of The Da Vinci Code early December. Tom Hanks, the secrets of the Priory of Sion, beautiful women and gorgeous places – can it get better than that?
Another promotion is for all new PlayStation Network users: if you register between November 19 and 30, we will send you a voucher for Transformers movie download. If you just got a new PS3 or an old one and still haven’t registered on PSN, you have until Monday in order to receive your free Transformers download. It’s really simple as all you have to do is register and wait for Transformers voucher to arrive early December!
What’s new and hot list for this week:
UK: Terminator Salvation, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs as well as Bruno, Star Trek, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and many more!
Spain: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Dark Knight, Watchmen – loads for you to choose from so start downloading!
Germany: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Watchmen, Star Trek, Crank 2, Transporter 3, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and many more!
France: this week we got Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Incognito, Star Trek, Watchmen and hundreds of other great films!
Ok I am off to spend my evening with Christian Bale… hmmm, I mean him on my PSP of course while I watch Terminator Salvation on my way home
Looking forward to all your feedback and speak soon!

Do you plan 2 offer any subscription deals like lovefilm? Your store would definitely b more convenient & I’d rather my money go 2 u, but with lovefilm I get 2 movies at a time, an unlimited amount of times per month all for £12 per month. U don’t even pay 4 postage with them. As urs is a download service where u don’t have 2 pay 4 everyones postage I would have excepted u 2 at least try 2 b competitive. Instead we get single rental downloads 4 £3.50 a time & movies available 4 rent anywhere else already not coming on until several weeks later. I do really love the idea psn but feel you’ve a way 2 go b4 u steal my custom away. Please do try though I’d much rather use ur services.

I’d become a new Vidzone viewer since yesterday. What a great service this is. Even my wife didn´t mind I was testing this out. She is using the PS3 now, I can’t game anymore

Look at the french blog. EVERY comment is asking for original english versions with french subtitles ! France wants English with french subtitles!

Why can’t we even purchase HD movies? Only rent? I for one am not buying anything off the movie store until you get your act together and give is the “buy in HD” option.

It’s great to see that these kinds of services are slowly coming to Europe as well, even though they are sverely lacking and incomplete.
The blame, however, rests solely on the studios and their geriatric Boards of Directors who still live in the previous millennium and cling to business models that were made for an environment where national boundaries actually mattered.
It’s no longer than 15 years ago that a simultaneous worldwide release of a movie was a logistical nightmare that was hard to defend from an ROI standpoint. Hence, different release dates for different territories were a natural consequence of the technological possibilites. These days it’s all a different story, of course, and the studios are obviously having a hard time catching up.

I quote the article;
So people who have spent £220 on a PS3 Slim get free goodies, whilst someone like me with a £425 PS3 plus a £145 refurb plus a back catalogue of games gets zilch! Well done on isolating your most loyal customers in favour of people who couldn’t be arsed paying much! Again proving you don’t care one iota about existing customers!

Why did our Spanish neighbors get this Video Download Service and we (Portuguese) didn’t yet?
This particular service should be already available, and preferably all over the world..
It’s sad the lack of support we see from sony..

Bloody hell, i would like to see the negative comments actually addressed for once rather than floated over for the asspattings..
also, why can you only rent HD? are sony actually capable of thought? Whats the difference aside from sharper picture? Does it immolate your Hard Drive when played 666 times? Or is it just Sony milking people for money?
*looks at last point* Yep, could’ve seen that one coming

one word, two silables, first silable sounds like “glove”, second silable sounds like ….er….. you know what? i don’t think there’s a word in the English language that rhymes with film. that’s funny!
So, that would mean you get the film in it’s original language with subtitle and sound options AND all the extras, and no rental, beit SD or HD, costs more that £2.
THEN, you would also have a rating/review functionality, that would probably go so far as to create a bit of a community and increased traffic on the store.
i appreciate it’s early days yet but in this day and age the service is just second rate. the search option suck also.
seriously guys, the modles are out there already and have proved themselves.
lovefilm all the way. just watched “I’m a cyborg, and that’s OK.” would recommend to anyone who thinks that Angels and Demons, The DiVinci Code AND Transformers 2 all suck.
ps. the guy who mentioned Park Chan Wook and Beat Tikeshi? excellent choice, Sir.

Actually, UK, Spain, France and Germany accounts for 30% of the entire european population, so 95% is way off base.

Speed up the downloads
I have a blockbuster 10mins from my house, so waiting 5 hours for a film to download is a waste of my time. I could have walked to Blockbuster and watched the film about 3 hours before the download has even finished.
You’ll probably ignore this comment though
That is all

Hi mint5000,No it don’t look like we are gonna get an answer, shame cause it just causes ill feelings,I have had every playstation from launch since 96 and consisder myself a bit of a sony fanboy, but I recently played on a xbox 360 elite, and bought my own i was that impressed, everthing sony are doing wrong, microsoft are doing right, the only good thing that keeps me going are the exclusives, uncharted,R&C,etc.Nobody on these blogs actually listens to joe public if they did they would make more money not less.
Epic Fail

Love the video store theory etc and used it the other night, although HD Coraline took several nights to download, but happy to live with that for the time being.
My issue is this, surely not a unique scenario. My GF and i started watching the film and then a friend unexpectedly visited. Becasue we had started the film it then triggered the 48 hrs expiry. We had other arrangements the next two nights so i only managed to watch the first hour in the end. If this 48hr countdown doesn’t change in the future then I won’t be using this service anymore. Why would i when i can watch at my leisure with love film, for example. Explained this scenario to a few friends who were interested that this service was now available on PS3 and they all agreed, the flexibility to watch when you want, within reason, say – a fortnight – is required.
So I paid 4.49 GBP for an hours film and no way to see the rest without payign for hire again.
Could someone at Sony let me know if this limit can be changed in the future or how i go about making a complaint and seeking a duplicate free download or refund.
Thank you
