Hi everyone, you might have noticed that the SingStar servers have been down for maintenance. This is because we’re getting ready to launch a shiny new SingStar Holiday update to version 4.30.
Firstly, and most importantly, this update fixes the missing songs / videos and other issues a number of you found with the previous version update. We’re really sorry that we caused these errors in the last SingStar update, and want to thank all of you for being so patient while these problems were being fixed and tested thoroughly. Your feedback to us on these problems has been invaluable, so thank-you! Hopefully, once you’ve updated you’ll find everything back to normal : )
Well, not quite normal actually. There are a number of cool new features also added in this Holiday update for you to try out too!
Here’s a quick rundown:
- What’s Hot? – Now you can see Top 10s on the SingStore of our hottest content from current Top 10 downloads to top festive tunes.
- Quick Buy – Watching a media clip of someone singing a song you really like and fancy adding it to your collection? Now you can go and view it directly in the SingStore at the press of a button!
- SingStore On Demand – You can preview SingStore songs available directly from the Song Selection screen in the game. Just press the Square button and you can view the whole SingStore catalogue while playing.
- Previously Purchased Content – If you’re in SingStore you can instantly see which songs you’ve bought before.
- Download all purchased songs option – In the SingStore, you can now download all the tracks you’ve purchased before quickly and easily. Just go to ‘Purchase History’ and select from there.
MySingStarOnline:
- My Favourite Media – This feature allows you to bookmark your favourite media clips in the community in your profile, so you can quickly watch them again and again.
- Clubs – You can transfer leadership of a club to another person.
Gameplay:
- Cartoon Interface – This gives child-friendly in-game feedback and end of song rankings.
- XMB User Player Profiles – When adding player names into your new game, you can now select from names stored on XMB (i.e. login profiles).
Phew, that’s it!
Last, but not least, all of us here in the SingStar team want to take this opportunity to say a big THANK-YOU to all of you who’ve played, bought and sung your hearts out with SingStar over the past 5 years. We’ve just reached a fantastic 20 MILLION copies sold, and it’s all down to you!
Let me know your comments below on the update and more – I’ll answer what I can : )

I’ve got the “Usage Rights”-Problem, too!
Your QA seems very inefficient! If you make changes to the oh so glorified DRM you ought to make sure it actually works for all the songs!
I called the Sony Entertainment Europe hotline and they told me I had to select (=find), delete and re-download my songs I purchased. This is work for which I usually get paid for!!! So I believe you guys should really think of something to make up for it, like giving away a couple of free songs!
Anyway I will think twice before buying anything from the SingStore again, because maybe next time you bring out a patch redownloading will not solve the problem and my money is gone down the drain!

Usage Rights Error – Redownload? Come on! I’m currently living in Belgium where they have internet usage limits every month. I’m not killing off my internet for a month to download what I’ve already paid for and downloaded previously. This needs fixed & not with the answer of delete & redownload.

Thanks Rob! It’s good to see these issues being investigated already and (hopefully) fixed in the near future, and even better to hear that we won’t be locked out of community activities.
Now, if only we could have the ability to upload media and access the SingStore… oh well, I’m hopeful that that too will come, one day.

Well and truly cheesed off with this.
I’ve got a load of friends coming round tonight for a night of Singstar and guess what – about 80 of my previously purchased songs are now unavailable due to the much mentioned usage rights error message. Given that each song currently takes between 30-40 minutes to download (slow connection at the moment for some unknown reason), there is no way that these will be downloaded in the few hours I have.
The suggested resolution of manually deleting and re-downloading them is impractical and completely unacceptable.

Guess what.
Just tried the suggested fix on one song. Deleted it from the content then downloaded it again from Purchase History and you guessed it, it’s disappeared and doesn’t show up anywhere on the track selection acreen
Any ideas??

I love Singstar, don’t get me wrong, but please stop using Kings of Leon cover art in your promotion images when they are not in the store (I love Kings of Leon too and want to murder their songs with my lack of singing talent!)
But great work on everything else guys!

Hey everybody!
I had the user rights problem. So I erased all the songs I have, and now I can’t download them anymore. I did have 25 songs downloaded from the singstore. Can I download those anymore? It will charge me if I try to download those again!

Hello,
We’re just in the middle of a singstar party and just realised, most of our content is not available to play due to the “owner has been deleted” error. This is quite annoying and is likely due to the latest patch which I was forced to install before loading the game.
Can you please let me know when this issue will be resolved? (deleting and re-downloading all previously purchased songs is not a fix but a workaround and I’d really really prefer not to go down this route. Downgrading would be preferable).

This update is fantastic! I love the new SingStore layout and music-wheel store items.
One small bug, when you buy an item from the song select screen, and return to the music-wheel after checkout, it plays the alphabetically first song (In my case, Never Ever / All Saints) video/music over the tile for the selected song. So if I bought Bullet Proof, returned to the wheel it will play “Never Ever” with the text “La Roux / Bulletproof” below.
The new SingStore is MUCH faster now too (Australia), the new servers are great.
Thanks, and here’s to another 20 million!

I am in Los Angeles, California, and am getting the USAGE rights error too. I just did my update tonight (December 6, 2009). Since this bug was known about on December 2nd, shouldn’t the update have at least warned me about this issue? It really is frustrating and I hope the patch comes soon.
I don’t suppose there is a way to “undue” an update? I appreciate the information here and will check back for more news.

Rob,
Thanks for the update.
Just one thing, which seems to be a growing annoyance to a lot of people, and which I’ve just experienced: the ‘one machine’ lock.
I’m amazed at this. My previous PS3 yellow lighted on me and I had to buy a new one. While everything downloaded fine, I never imagined Singstar would be a problem. When I tried redownloading my songs it came up with the ‘Usage Rights’ warning.
I find this particularly unfair considering more and more people seem to be experiencing problems with their PS3s and have to have them replaced. Why not simply tie the songs with our account and follow the 5 download limit like the rest of PS3 downloads?
Because of no fault of my own I’ve now lost around £30 worth of downloads!

Hi jbni,
The patch to fix the usage rights issue is coming in tomorrow and will go through QA over the next few days. We’re looking to release this at the beginning of next week. This patch should fix your Usage Rights message without you needing to re-download those songs.
If you still have problems you can still get your songs back if you call the helpline (check out the number on a previous post on this thread. Sorry, I understand the ‘one machine’ rule can seem difficult, but it’s all part of the legal rights we have to have to get the best songs into SingStar.

Thanks guys for letting me know about the usage rights issue. I decided not to get online with singstar until a new patch is online which fix the problems with Patch 4.30.
Is it possible to get online with singstar without updating singstar with the new patch? I have never tried it, but is there a choice just to say no and then play Singstar and download content as usual? I don’t remember…

I downloaded the latest patch 4.30 and got the same issue that everyone else seems to have, with not being able to play about 50 of my downloaded songs.
So i went ahead and patiently deleted them and redownloaded them which was mostlt sucessful but i seem to have lost 11 of my downloaded songs.
When i try to re-download these 11 songs it sems as though i have got to pay for them again, has anybody else had this problem.
And Sony am i going to get compensation for these songs that i have already paid for.

!!ALSO A UNSUSPECTING VICTIM OF THE BLOODY USAGE RIGHTS ISSUE!!
Your QA process is RUBBISH! How can you continue to allow the patch 4.30 to be downloaded when you know it is potentially ruining downloadable content. I can’t believe that despite being aware of this issue you havent ceased the patches distrubution until the issue has been rectified!
I own 21 Singstar Discs (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/5007/45988310.jpg) which is all of the UK PS2 & PS3 ones minus the Bollywood / Disney discs and i have in excess of 80 downlaoded songs and have spent £35 on wireless mics, by my reckoning over £500 has been spent on Singstar products and this is how you repay me?
I AM LIVID! Yes i can use all of my discs but all of the bloody xmas tunes i downloaded last year are now locked. Don’t have the audacity to tell me to delete and redownload them as i honestly have lost faith in what s**t you guys spout bearing in mind what barnhurster has said above.

Time & time again you guys fail the fans and community that have followed singstar for years .. isn’t it about time you guys got your act together.
And it seems to be that despite numerous requests from fans trying to suggest ways for you to improve things like the disc swap facility you fail to take it on board, im sure if you put a 100 singstar fans in a room for a day they’d come up with so much more than you guys offer us once in a blue moon. Try playing the game with 21 discs and having them being picked up left right and centre, i’ve resorted to creating a apaper list which i have to update every time i buy or download new singstar material. Why cant we have a patch which can recognises what singstar discs the user owns and create a caraousel full of the relevant songs? Surely thats not that novel or complex for you guys to action? Im not even bothered if there was no video to accompany it on the caraousel .. most people don’t need a 30 second video clip to know what they want to sing!

The bugs and glitches is one thing but your website is truly the pits. Surely instead of having to come to a BLOG to find this out if you actually updated the official singstar website a bit more and posted stuff there people may be more in the loop and inclined to check the site out more often and may not have downlaoded said 4.30 patch cos of the issues.
Also there are hundreds of thriving singstar fan forums yet the official site has the grand total of nada! :-s

Yeah awesome, track list of over 300 songs now can only play 100 of.
so the 4.30 fixing issues did the complete opposite, my singstar was fine b4.
So when’s this patch to fix the patch?
Im certainly not redownloading 200 songs
and the last time i had an issue with Singstar songs after a crash i got screwed out of $50 worth
73
Posted on 10 December, 2009 at 10:35 am by Jobsquad_Alpha
and why some songs and not others? 50 or so i had on the system i had b4 that crashed, they were transfered to this system which has only been altered by a HD upgrade due to the lack of size on the standard and we couldn’t get the larger HD model PS3 where i live.
the songs useage rights error seems to be random in selection, some songs from a single artist are blocked yet another from the same artist is not and songs i purchased last month blocked yet others from the old system still work
This plain sucks. Fix it.

question if i upgrade my hard drive but use the same machine is that not me using the same machine. seems your usage rights has a bit of a legal loophole.

he hard drive, no that doesn’t constitute a new system. i’f hazard a guess you’d have to replace the motherboard or cpu for that to be an issue, same as a pc. i swapped my hd out for a 300gb ages ago and had no issues with needing to reactivate anything from b4 that time.
you cant backup the singstsar dlc but your useage rights are on there end not yours.
