If thats the case, then sorry for using it against you. I havent, and wont be using the video store, as I already use Lovefilm. I assumed the video store would be the same as the other downloads you know, just get them through download history. If thats not the case, then they need to fix that, but as for prices. It’s the same everywhere else, can’t complain there.

Seany stop complaining, noone is making you pay for them are they. Did Olga come round your house and force you to spend your money on the store? No, she didn’t.
If you don’t like the prices, don’t pay them. I have already downloaded and rented a few films from the service. Do i complain that some of the prices are high? Nope. If i think a price is too high i don’t pay it.

Also cheaper to buy online from Amazon or something anyway. Renting is dead on, but i dont think Buying the digital films will make much cash for Microsoft or Sony. Not when with Netflix and Lovefilm, you can get 2 films a month, for the price of one rental on the PSN store, and the Microst Video Store.

I can’t see me ever buying at film due to the prices and i prefer to buy a hard copy online.
However i think it is wrong if it’s true that those that do buy films don’t have a download history ie they can re download them for free any and any???
How does this compare to services like Apple Tv?
I actually have an Apple tv but have only ever used it for rentals, which by the way are very easy to sort/filter to see whats new/ hd to rent, rather than having to shift through all the films that are still only to buy.

id use video store a lot if it was like u.s version were they get new releases to rent and buy same day . same as itunes but scee seem to wanna force the buy option over renting which will only hurt profit as not a lot will buy

@59 it is true m8 i bought the frightners film and it disappeard off download history when it finished downloading

Posted on 4 December, 2009 at 2:54 pm by FBZ1501
Oh and if i ever was to buy a film it would need to be in HD with 5.1
Otherwise what incentive is there not to buy a higher quality version of thefilm from Play or Amazon and actually save money and have a physical copy.
Alot of blu rays even have a 3 copy in 1 thing going eg Star Trek and Wolvie.
Having said all that, i am sure the PSN Video store will catch up with Apple TV’s service and offer a decent service to those who wish to pay for the easy of it.

One idea the Video store could do with is a trailer section.
Again, Apple TV have this and you can view all the latest trailers in hd, not a money maker but a nice feature to get people on the store and used to it

Thanks for the update Olga (and your comments throughout, it’s a tough gig putting up with us, demanding lot that we are).
Anyway, I was wondering through the main batch launched in the UK, they seemed to be rent HD or SD, but only buy HD (for the most part), if it is there for HD rental, why not for purchase? Personally, if I’m going to own it I’m going to buy the HD version. I also wonder about the price point of some of the SD versions, as when on-line retailers sell the blu-ray of the film for the same or lower, which is not machine limited, and usually even comes with digital copies in SD, where is the advantage to the consumer? (again, it may be a UK thing)
Thanks!

You guys need to add subtitles to the movies, this is a serious issue and I’m surprised you haven’t been in trouble (legally) yet. Also, a response would be nice. Thanks

My biggest issue is still the download speed.
It’s plausible that I could drive from London to Brighton, go into a blu-ray distributors, buy Star Trek, drive home and watch it in less time than it would take me to download it. I know there’s no reason for me to partake in such a strange journey but you get my point.
It’s about as convenient as amnesia

Shall definitely be renting Sideways in HD, been far too long since I’ve seen that film.
I think the store’s pretty decent considering it’s just launched here, when I remember what the PSstore used to be like, I find it pretty hard to complain. If we see a similar growth in the movie store I’ll be pretty happy.
My plans are to use the store for rentals (preferably in HD, so lets get that content rolling in!) and if I like the film enough then I’ll buy it on Blu-Ray since I love having a physical thing, and of course all the special features.

The exorxist & I am legend to test my new surround system… I’ll make sure it’s really dark before watching and I’ll sit 3ft away from the screen. great fun

Subtitles? Isn’t it breaking the law (in the UK at least) to not have them (correct me if I’m wrong)?
Also films to buy are still far too expensive to even consider, and not being able to re-download the films you have bought is outrageous considering there’s no way to back them up.
I’d have thought issues like these would have been sorted before even considering opening the store. I’d have waited longer if the service would have opened at a higher quality. It’s a shame really. I’ll stick to buying DVDs which can work out the same price as renting from you at the moment.

Hi,
Great news for 5.1 but the download speed still needs some work; I’ve downloaded 2 HD rentals so far and each one took over 20 hours to download!! AND my rental period started the moment the download began so I lost two days of rental.
Please increase the speed, I know some ISP’s restrict certain types of traffic, but my ISP allows line speed downloads overnight so there shouldn’t be any problems there, but clearly there are.

Oh, and the best Christmas movie by far is Bad Santa

too pricey.
who wants to buy? don’t mean to get shirty but if you DL movies all the time where do you store them? you can’t copy them of course.
trailers would be good, and the search option on rental titles, or indeed lack of it, is abysmal. i’ve searched through the lot once, numbering over 500, and i’m not gonna do that again.
hope you get it right one of these days, i know it’s not fully established yet but given there are still so many short falls on the game side of the store i have little to no confidence that it will be. ever.
cheers

i would use this , if scee would bother giving a decent amount of bandwidth to its buyers . i have 7 meg connection and i can quite happily download a 1400 meg avi film in about half an hour from other places . all the other online movie download services allows the user to more or less max out of their bandwidth . you would expect this considering you a buying a movie and that by paying for it would mean they have the proper bandwidth allowance for you to get the film as fast available . itunes is a good example of this.
so i rent an SD film of the store . 1300 meg……it took 6 hours to download film . what a joke , couldn’t actually watch the film that night . the speed was horribly slow and all from PSN’s end .
whats really strange, is that anything of the game section of the store , like a video or demo. will download at just under my max connection and thats content i dont have to pay for . why arent movie down loaders given priority over the bandwidth . i dont get it.its
mad considering that its possible to download all these films illegally , free and running at full bandwidth . i thought the point of this was to try and convince people to stop downloading illegally

Jeeze you lot can half [DELETED] about this service, i personally think it is a great thing. When you buy a dvd, if after a year you loose it, scratch it, or its broken do you return to the store and DEMAND another copy?!? NO! I can see what you mean about transferring it to the other ps3 systems, which im sure they will rectify if your ps3 breaks down in the future. For me i like buying in SD, Dvd quality is still a good service, if i want HD i will buy the Blu-Ray. As i like to transfer and be able to watch films on my PSP as well as on the PS3.
Good work Olga and the Team, nice releases and keep up the good work, i fully support you in this service and say to the rest of these people, if you dont like the costs of the services or the selection, no one is making you buy the films, so just stop complaining about it. A few questions though, when are more special offers coming in, as id like to see how they compare, and how often will a new ‘sepcial’ offer come around? Cheers again for the service look forward to more in the future.

Oh and another question, if i wanted to upgrade my 60 gig hard drive to say 500 gig. By backing up the data to an external hard drive, then moving and copying it over to the new hard drive, would the movies transfer along with these? I would assume they would, but thought i would ask, cheers.

Right my turn!
Sony need to create a cloud whereby all your downloads can be stored including buying expensive 11.99 movies from PSN. THIS IS THE FUTURE !!! Any normal working class person will not throw 11.99 away. The rentals are good value!!! Yes they are … So all you brats out there cope with it.
Why does it take forever to download a bloody movie? Was all excited about watching Rocky took almost 6 hours. The popcorn had gone stale by the first hour. Explain?
We need TV episodes!
Sony PS3 needs to do everything

Hey heritic, last week most people were complaining about the lack of 5.1 sound, and this week hey presto theres a few films with 5.1 …..
And no, if you upgrade your h\d you loose your films, hence more complaints.
So if everyone took your advice and didnt complain \ give feedback, none of the issues would get resolved…

The prices on the store really aren’t doing it for me. I figured they’d be at least a little cheaper than blu-ray. But as it is the SD downloads are equivalent to current blu-ray prices. Considering the HD downloads are gonna be more I don’t see how the convenience of having films on your HDD is gonna pay off. A post Xmas blu-ray spree it will have to be for me

Why would anyone buy? The problem isn’t just the price and quality of the films. The other big problem is, only one download! Sure the hard drive could brake and the consumer would be screwed; however, the biggest issue is space. Films are around 2 – 5 gig, maybe more! Everyone would have space issue if they download many movies and you can’t re-download when you want to delete a film to clear some space!
On a separate note, Harry Potter: Order Of The Pheonix is only available to buy. The other films are available to rent and the new film is going to be as well. Why is this the only one that isn’t?

Posted on 5 December, 2009 at 12:09 pm by KylieDog
Prices are still too high.
The rental prices are the price you can buy a physcial copy of most of these movies for if you shop online or even in stores.
I see some films for £12 to buy on PSN yet I can buy on DVD or Blu-Ray for £3-£7.
Where is my reason to want to buy from PSN? I pay more and get less options on what I can do with the movie (cannot lend to friend, sell, take to a different player to watch).

Anything for the other countries? I may be British (Won’t buy these films though. If you do and are still using the argument “You can lose a DVD!” look at the frankly god-awful service Sony offer: 1 download, high cost to rent (Last I checked I could hire 2 films from my local off-licence for the price of 1 here) 5.1 support stumbling, movies missing subtitles and…..the fact data can corrupt. So much for THAT argument) but we are under Sony Computer Entertainment EUROPE, not Sony Computer Entertainment Handful-Of-Countries-Balls-To-The-Rest
And before one of the Holier-Than-Thous accuses me of being an unplacable rabid moaner, I know I don’t have to use the Store. I won’t. I’m angry that I waited, hoping to get a great service to pimp my PS with films I want, only for Eur–Sorry Handful-Of-Countries-Balls-To-The-Rest, to get YET ANOTHER watered down USA Hand-me-down.

Good to see you are making an effort to get films out there in 5.1 but it should really be standard on every film available on the store.

Notice How theres NO CODEC stated for the 5.1 audio track.
AAC5.1 or AC3 5.1 or DTS 5.1 or PCM 5.1
If its AAC 5.1 optical Connections to the sound system Wont be any better off.

So it’s not just me that is suffering poor speeds, though if I could download in 6 hours I’d be very happy; currently I’m looking at two days.
But so far, no official response about the speed issue. Come on Sony, if you want this to take off you’ve got to prioritise the speed of the download. I’ve no problem starting a DL in the morning so I can watch the film in the evening, but currently I have to start on Wednesday if I want to watch it Friday!!!
I am pursuing this with my ISP too, one way or another it MUST improve or I just won’t bother.

Ok all of those who attempted to answer my question, did any of you actually back up the files onto an external hard drive and then add them to a new hard drive. Or did you go on the basis that there is no redownload and just assume.
99
Posted on 5 December, 2009 at 8:51 pm by heretic15
Also i have noted that if you download in background it is quicker when you are doing other things on the playstation, if you stay on the PSN store and download straight to the system it takes awhile whilst on the PSN store. However my connections take around an hour or so to download a 2 hour film.
