PS3 System Software Update – 3.15

Today, Dec. 14, I have been watching AVATAR trailer from official web page. As usual, PS3 system get in loop, so I had to turning off pressing I/O button. The question is, When PS3 system will support HD 1080 and QuickTime files without this kind of problems?

Why are we getting all of these useless updates why not have an update like being able to upload your pictures and make them your avatars. That is one simple thing that we do need; I doubt I’m gonna use this update in anyway any time soon. Why doesn’t Sony create something useful for once, instead of giving us stuff like this that we will only use like once.

User created avatars? You must be dreaming! Think of all the potential abuse and lawsuits.

Are there plans to implement DivX 7 in future firmwares and support MKV files?

I would also suggest making PS3 visible on the network for backup, copy files to PS3 purposes.

Just did the data transfer and it seems to have worked perfectly.
I did have to try 3 different ethernet cables before one would get recognised by the PS3.
By the way, .avi files are just fine. If you use Vuze, you can stream videos to your PS3.

I was thinking of swapping my old 40BG Fat PS3 for a nice 250GB Slim. I always assumed you could swap data anyway but I see this arrived just in time…Nice.

I downloaded Pinball Dreams for my psp about 444 weeks ago, So this firmware update was good news. i rushed to my XMB to find a new folder for mini save data … visited downloads section to redownload pinball dreams. poped back to my XMB to install it and BAM!!!! NO install option… and i quote ” exclusivley for the psp” . i have read elsewhere on another forum that there is a compatability list and the ones that dont work out weigh the ones that do by 3 to 1. this is stupid why include something in a firmware update if its not fully working. I am very dissapointed with the level of service you are supplying me SONY. i am considering switching to xbox360. they have X game chat, animated avatars, other little gimmicks like Online 1 vs 100, quizes , prizes. i feel like im getting a cheaper service. give me one good reason to stay loyal and not line bill gates hand with some of my hard earned cash……..

as ps3 get updated the fan noise go up at the 60g one happened after the slim one came out sony please fix this get annoying

Congratulations on the update, i’m sure many will enjoy it. Is there going to be any chance of getting maybe, itv player? Skype? Twitter? These introductions to the XMB would really make my day

you just don’t get it sony people buy games to play not to work on PsOne or Ps2 protected files didn’t happen so why did i have to play through Res-evil5 get everything Smailliw account then go to my Sephiroth_Chaos get through 50% have my Ps3 die get a Knew one and lose everything From both accounts Demon’s Souls is the same locked only on Ps3 so you cant blame developers for this then you offer a transfer Ps3 to Ps3 all game data then when asked you say only data you don’t need to transfer so what’s the point of transfering data that you save to usb cause you might have system die corrupted file

This is why I love Sony, Sony doesn’t wait til Everyone starts complainin about needing a new update Sony just makes new useful updates and everyones happy. Thanks I really needed this update, upgrading from 40 to 250 GB and I was plannin to use a 2 gb memory stick 20times!!

why do people keep on complimenting sony on something that doesn’t do much good jak242 you will lose copy protected games so why the update why the compliments whats the point sony please tell me why you keep making updates that don’t improve gaming and bring back the good times that were on PsOne and Ps2 you could play any game save on any system and just have fun. It seems you want fans to get upset rather than just love your products still loyal to playstation but 3 years no state-of-the-art graphics not much 1080p you really are pushing the loyalty very disappointed not what i thought sony would do to me but i don’t think you care about loyalty anymore please let me know if you plan to solve any of the problems

Its pretty unbelievable how many comments there have been talking about voice chat, and yet sony haven’t done anything about it? All We need is this then there is no other reason to the competing console.

Work on that please Sony, and maybe downloadable PS2 classics aswell? I personally would kill to play Sims: Bustin’ Out again.

I’ve been trying to re-download my rockband purchases from the PS store on my new ps3. I’m using the same psn account, but when I try to download, it’s not recognizing that I’ve already purchased the song before. Am I missing something here? This is the first time I try to dl to more than one ps3. Help please.

Tbh, I don’t really see the point in the transfer, if it doesn’t work for locked utillity becuase we can already do it. but as games such has LBP if we transfer the data will the trophies be blocked becuase its a copied/transfered. and is there anyway that we can transfer locked content other wise, well no offense its just pointless.

i think there should be a link allowing ps3 players to play online against x box players, what do you think ?

can i undo corrupted data like change it to the save point before it will take me about a year to get all my stuff back

the info under system settings >>> data transfer utility says even data that is copy protected can be transfered (moved) so why james thorpe are you saying it wont???

anyway the problem i have is as follows:

YLOD PS3 which sony have no interest in replacing so i have had to pay ££££ for a new slim version

what i would like to kno is if i put my old hdd from my ylod ps3 into a another one in order to retrive the data will it be formatted??? if it will how am i ment to get all of my data from it?

sounds great but it would be cool if there was an update to play ps2/ps1 games on my ps3 because theres still classics ive got.

Okay, after I did this update, the PS3 stopped reading my games and DVDs.

thats great but to late my blue ray went bad a few months ago so i got a new ps3 and the other one is at the dump lol sure could have used that new feature on 3.15 maybe next time

DRM is the cancer of the digital mediascape, slowly it will rot all that it touches and hurt many as it ploughs way through the land!

Seriously I had no idea that game saves couldn’t be transferred between devices, I already avoid purchasing video cos I’m guessing that’s DRM’d to the nines and if can’t move it to my TVersity media server (like I have my entire cd/dvd collection) then I don’t wanna know. Now I find that I can’t move game saves either! Well there goes my plan to buy a second PS3 for my bedroom (that way I could stream media and MY play games too).

When will companies realise that they are selling to PEOPLE not devices and the relationship you build with them can last a lifetime!

P.S. My big update wishlist is that you allow us to create (MUSIC) playlists from items we have on our media servers, or allow the music player to access media server content directly so we can play our own music in games (I don’t want to copy music back and forth every time I change my mood or game!)

Why can’t I transfer the protected saves? That should be removed in the next firmware update.

When i try to update my ps3 it turns it self off .. do i have to turn it back on myself when this happens.? (its fully updates and installs up to 80% then shuts down)

It seems some people are still confused. This data transfer does transfer protected/locked game saves and profiles. They are deleted on the source system but are transferred to the new PS3. This has been tested and verified!

Great news because after exactly 2 years of PS3 40gb use it’s life came to an end. All features work except for the ability to play games on disc/cd’s or movies. The laser disc reader is actually what dies i suppose. reading other blogs sounds like it has happened to others as well. Not to say it is a common system error. The PS3 has been great. Will get the PS3 slim 120gb and move all existing data over hopefully seamlessly.We have spend ALOT on PS3 downloads for Singstar, Pain and Little Big Planet. All of this should transition over…right?

My 60g ps3 gave me the ylod. I went and bought a new slim 120g. Will I be able to repair it myself/game stop (no point in sending it to sony, I heard they send you a refurbished one) AND the HDD only works on the ps3 that formated it in the first place and I want to keep my data. Then can I update to 3.15 and use the data transfer to get my .jpgs transfered? I don’t care about any of the game saves I only want my pictures!!! And of course I didn’t create a backup. Will those files be transfered??

Im happy to see constant updates. On an unrelated topic. When can we expect an update that allows videos to be stored in their proper folders?

It already happens with music but when you copy movies over you have to have them stored or grouped in a folder called a, b, c, d, etc

Im sure everybody is asking but when are we getting cross-game voice chat !?!

Why do people make such a big deal over Cross Game Voice Chat. If you really want to talk to your friend about something when you guys are on different games, isnt that what the PHONE is for. Even a simple text, get on killzone 2, if you want your friend to play get the job done. Sony should focus on more important things. One important thing they should include in their updates is the ability to tie game saves to a persons PSN ID account, that way they can get rid of that damn protected game saves problem. Please Sony, add that feature.

1) Why wasn’t data transfer created BEFORE bringing out the PS3 slim model? There are a few saves I lost when I upgraded my fat to slim?

2) It is simply NOT sufficient to rely on data transfer as a solution to moving locked content from one console to another. Because what is the backup function for?

And I mean that comment seriously – right now, the only possible value in backing up a console is so that you can restore it in the event of a hard drive being error / being replaced IN THE SAME CONSOLE. It doesn’t cover you if the console itself fails, and that is simply WRONG.

In the event of a full system failure, you should be able to restore protected backups onto a new / replaced system. IMHO, the simple answer to this is to at the very least allow protected backups to be restored to systems that are activated on that account.
