The PSB.Europe weekly reading list (week commencing the 14th of December)
This week we not only announced extra downloadable episodes and the Special Edition for Quantic Dream’s upcoming thriller, Heavy Rain, but the press got an extended hands on with the opening portion of the game. Their thoughts are collated in the list below and I’m happy to see that they’re all pretty positive. (Even Destructoid, who decided instead to preview the game’s install screen — I’m looking forward to hearing their thoughts on the game in their forthcoming preview).
There’s also a smattering of non-Heavy Rain based content, including some reviews of Relentless Software’s newly released episodic murder mystery, Blue Toad Murder Files. Let us know what your favourite stories from this week were in the comments below.

Really happy with the Heavy Rain CE announcement and the previews aren´t helping my excitement!
By the way Jem,if you could pass the suggestion of changing the ugly friends´,throphies´ and messages´ grey boxes to some kind of black-y,sleeker look to the update department I´d be much appreciated. I just don´t think it does justice to the xmb and the PS3 in general as probably many other people do and hey,how hard can it be?
Cheers

I love Pixeljunk Shooter… It rocks, the ability to choose my in-game music from PS3 HDD is fantastic

Thanks Jem,
Heavy rain is my second anticipated game after The Last guardian.
In joystiq’s preview… isn’t that the girl from the original casting video in one of the pics?… cool
Now, one thing that is really bugging me even more than the current ps3 browser problem with the blog videos and seeming incompatibility with the official forum, is the discovery that in the last 4 or 5 days i haven’t been able to even post a comment on the blog using my ps3. Instead i have to go to a computer like i am doing now.Yet i can still post on other sites like TSA or the forum(when it loads)?
I do hope that somebody official will make an announcement on this issue soon.
something along the lines of…”We are aware of the issue and are currently working on a solution” would really be nice to hear.

Heavy rain looks interesting, game devs are continuing to push the boundaries and come up with new ideas all the time. granted there is more scope in a 3rd person title than a 1st person game, but kudos to the people continually coming up with the concepts; and well done Sony for recognizing the potential.

On an unrelated note, I’ve got a suggestion:
With the release of Modern Warfare 2, the PSN finally got fully incorporated cross-game invites and the option to join a ‘session in progress’ through the in-game XMB.
Now, those of you that have been playing MW2 (or the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Beta for that matter, as it also uses cross-game invites), surely noticed that it can be a bit annoying to manually scroll through the XMB to get to your received messages when you’ve just received an invite. Sure, it’s not really THAT much trouble to get there, but wouldn’t it be very convenient to be taken straight to the message/invite when you press the PS button during the time the notification is displayed in the upper right corner?
So, my suggestion is:
• When notified about a received message/invite, pressing the PS button will take you straight to that message (so you can join or reply immediately from there), saving you some time.
• When the notification dissapears again, pressing the PS button will function in the same way it always does.
It’s a simple enhancement to the User Interface and I hope Sony will incorporate this in a future firmware-update.

great idea caemgen, and one i’d like to see extended to the trophies.
so that it works similar to the way the achievements do on the xbox, so that when the notification pops up you press the ps button and it takes you to your trophy info, specifically the trophy you just got.
and can the priorities of connected devices be changed, so that if you have another device plugged in, say one of the guitar hero controllers or a remote/keyboard/joypad combo thing then the actual ps3 joypad is kept as the number one controller by default because many games and most notably home wont recognise the pad unless it’s set as number 1.

We were spoilt this week. Thank you.
Any update on the progress with the comic store on PS store Ireland? I’ve gotten the free comics (thank you), which I really enjoyed and I’d love the chance to get into the real store. It’s been a few years since I said goodbye to the heros over at Marvel. I’m looking forward to catching up.
Heavy rain is rumoured to be out around the 23 Feb in Europe. Not official though.

one more thing i’d like to see in future a firmware update is automatic uploading of trophy info as soon as you get a new trophy, if you’re online at the time, and if not, background uploading when you get back online
