Hi, my name is Robert Karp and I am here to give you latest news on Hustle Kings.
Over the last year VooFoo studios and Sony have been combining their skills with some good old fashioned elbow grease to help make Hustle Kings the best. We have been packing in as many features as possible, whilst at the same time adding so much polish that you can almost see your own face! Check out these balls if don’t believe me.
There has been a lot of discussion internally about how we can do something a little different with the trophy system and we finally decided to make one of the silver trophies a little bit different from the rest… This trophy can only be unlocked by playing online and beating someone else who already has it – Sounds simply enough? Now the best part is that the developers are the only ones who will start with it and that means the only way to get it is by beating them at their own game!
Now to bit that I hope you’ve all been waiting for… (Drum roll please)
Release date: 22nd of December 2009 (That’s today!)
Price: £6.29 (€7.99)
If you’re a fan of turning your skills into (virtual) cash, then Hustle Kings is for you. With graphics, a physics engine, a whole host of offline game modes including (but not limited to) career, trick shots, local tournaments, as well as an online hustle mode and topped off with an intuitive control method. Sometimes when I’m at the pub playing pool, I think to myself… “I wish I could be playing Hustle Kings right now!”
We have tried to take advantage of everything the PS3 has to offer, so we’ve included XMB music (although I’d questions anyone’s taste who doesn’t like the eclectic mix we have on offer), uploading videos to you tube (to show off your greatest jump and swerve shots) and much more. Are your ready for the total pool experience?
Hustle Kings will be available exclusively on the PlayStation Store, so if you haven’t already signed up to for a PSN ID, you’d better do so now!

That is true Viper.
SCEE and SCEA must draw straws to see which territory a game launches in first. Not real often a game gets released at the same time in both areas.
Love corporate decision making.

for those chalk questions. each chalk can only use 25 times, after that you must buy again. to be honest, the normal blue chalk is absolutely fine, no need for special chalks in my opinion, although most of my games is played without a line, so i’m not sure what is the benefit with a line or not.

I’m sorry, but this game falls short on several aspects. The graphics are top-notch, not a complaint about them. They’re easily the best part of the game, and that’s depressing.
Putting hooks in for DLC right now, charging for chalk and the inhuman shots. I watched as the computer potted 3 balls from a single shot off of two cushions. The Career mode has been ruined for me.
If it were possible to get a refund, I would.
Oh, and adverts while selecting a game mode? Low. Very low.

How much did you pay for the game?
SIX QUID.
A lot of game for that money.
Would you have liked the game more if you paid 15 quid and have endless supply of chalk and no advertisement.
Something tells me you would find that to be too much.

Good fun,A few issues though but mostly mentioned above.
But it’s the extra chalk stuff that sucks I don’t understand why it’s even in the game.
And despite seeing advertisements for voice, there is none.
The A.I makes stupid shots, like clipping a ball so it goes up and down the table so it can pot a ball, and consistently does these shots.it smells of cheating A.I
But I love everything else,it’s brilliant and highly addictive.

@105
Not in the least. But this kind of thing stopped me buying the Fury pack for Wipeout HD.
The cost is not an issue, the issue is that I was admittedly, stupidly quick to buy it. Had I known these issues beforehand, I wouldn’t have bought it. But I have, so what right do you have to tell me I have no right to complain about what I, not you, have spent my money on?
The game has been set up as a money-maker even after the initial outlay, and the description of it on the store is misleading. If I had known I would be paying for an incomplete game, with microtransactions, and with DLC to add game modes WHICH ARE ALREADY BEING TRACKED IN THE STATS, I would have stayed well away.

Hi Robert,
Fantastic game. I bought this as soon as I noticed it on the Store ; the price is good value. A few things I would like to mention which I hope are read.
1) When playing two player, the second Sixaxis cannot be used. Is it possible to play two player using a pad each.
2) When my opponent fouls, I do not recieve two shots. I understand that pool rules vary greatly (in the UK, at least) – would it be possible to customise the game rules?
3) I find the cushions are not quite bouncy enough.
4) I have had a number of shots that go straight in the centre of the pocket but have bounced straight back out again.
5) Cannot wait for snooker
6) £0.20 for chalk is bad. The real thing is cheaper down my local snooker club.
I hope my comments don’t sound too negative. The game is fantastic and I am enjoying it thus far.

Hi Mr. Karp,
Excellent game as others have said, 10/10 imho. I must try out using the d-pad for fine tuning shots, analogue can be a bit of a nightmare for that. The AI are real magicians with the wand (cue) in their possession. Gotta try out the personal play-lists.
I do agree that voice chat is required, I can picture it now playing a friend for 1,000,000 HKC and putting doubts in his mind about the shot they are playing, hard to do that with the xmb messaging system when shot clock is on.
Any chance of dropping us a hint of what month the snooker will arrive? For me its a definite purchase. Looking forward to that already, I hope the AI are less extravagant there tho lol.
Btw great job on keeping the file size so minimal, its a joke how you guys a VooFoo have managed to give all that game in contrast to a small file size and price. I will be keeping a close eye on anything that comes out of your studios in the future.
@ 110 the game mode you are looking for is called black-ball I believe.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Ireland.

I love this game! and yes the chalk sound effect is too loud
)
Is it possible to have a list of the track used in the game? Are they commercially available to buy on iTunes or something?
Thanks

Great game, looks fantastic.
I too can’t get my second controller to work for the second player in a two player game.
I’d also agree that the balls bounce out of the pockets too readily.
Other than that, loving it so far. I’ve been waiting for this to arrive since seeing the E3 teaser video. I’m not disappointed.
thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
When you are on the player select screen use the second controller to change from the AI and it should automatically be used for player 2.
Thanks,
Robert

purchased the game, and for the money it’s good value. it feels like a pool game should, but there a few issues:
1) while the physics for shots is pretty good, for breaking it seems somewhat off. in the standard 15-ball rack it always seems to result in 3 balls going to the back cushion, no matter how i hit the break – this is making it very very difficult to clear the table from the break, as in survivor game on the amateur career mode. i’ve had over 100 attempts at this, and still not been able to do it. i’ve even potted 4 balls from the break, but still 3 balls end up side by side on the back cushion..
2) i’ve done the jump, swerve, bank and plant pots, yet i don’t have the skill player trophy. the in game progress says i’ve only done 3 of them, so i’ve no idea which one didn’t register or why..
3) the aiming is too twitchy, and not condusive to really fast play (not as far as potting 8 balls in 40 seconds is concerned anyway).
4) can you patch in an option that reverses the left/right movement on the left stick?
otherwise it’s very well done. there’s a real sense of elation when you get a jump shot perfect, or that crazy pot you’re attempting comes off..

I would love an option to turn the Chalk Sound off. Sometimes it Glitch in the Game and there is no Sound
Can anyone tell me where the Custom Sound Option is? Nothing found in the Option Menue.
Please fix:
- Ingame Voice <– Game was announcet with that!
- Microtransactions really really suck!
- really Hard to press Circle for fine shots
- Option to Use Chalk with a Button
If i knew that before buy, i woulnd´t buy!
@twistedintoform: I got the skilled Tropy at the second Trick Shot (Beginner)

Wanted to wait a while before adding a comment on here to get a feel for the game first. Now I can honestly say I [DELETED] love it.
Been up and down the ranks like a yoyo due to my insisting on playing when getting back from the pub. The table in my local smells like mackerels and marmite so this has one up one the real thing already.
My only two minor gripes would be the ease in which you have to hit as much screw back as you like when hampered by another ball or a cushion. This can make things a bit too easy.
Also I think it would be an idea to add a coin tossing system at the start of each game as giving the break to the person who offered the challenge can be a massive advantage.
Thats it, minor moans on what is a quality game.
Happy as [DELETED] with it and can’t wait for the snooker.
ps… is there a way to play cut throat online? thanks.

Bought the game last week and i love it.
.
But there are a few things that are not as it should be.
For a start, and thats a very big mistake imo.
After breaking off, what most of the time means potting a solid and a stripe, the game will ask you to select solids or stripes.
This is completely wrong..since the game does not work with call shots, what should be a nice addition to the game when patching so the luckass ai in carreer wont win all the time with idiot shots, this is not the the correct way.
After the break a player is free to hit any ball and pot any ball..a player is allowed to make a plant or combination shot..like hitting the 1 and potting the 10.
The stripes will then be the ball of choice.
Since everyone has to deal with this, this is not a disadvantage to anyone and is not a very big problem..its a big mistake though.
Then there is the problem with balls popping out of the pockets.
This happens way to much..im a quite experienced pool player in real life and i never ever had a ball coming back out of the pocket.
This is a very unrealistic feature of the game…but its the same as i said before..everyone is having to deal with this so get used to it

As i said before, and i really think this would be a very very nice and welcome improvement to the game, is adding the option to enable call shots.
.
This means that before you make the shot, you have to nominate the pocket you are going to pot the ball in.
This will prevent players from hit and hope and will create more fair online play and the carreer will get a lot better as well
But to be honest…this is by far the best pool game ever on any platform..easy to get used to, it looks briliant and it plays like a charm.
I cant wait to download the snooker dlc.
I want to thank VooFoo for creating such a briliant game for such a briliant price.
Keep it up!!!!!!

Initially being very impressed with the game, I noticed that there are occasions where the game hangs on my PS3 fat.
In total, I had this 3 times now:
- The the first time I was playing custom music and I made a pot, the total appears on the screen, and then the music just kept on playing, but none of the buttons on the controller, nor the console itself, seemed to respond to anything. I had to restart it.
- Ever since, did not play custom music, thinking it was related. However, when I played the game after making a succesful pot again, with the totals on-screen, the game played its music, but did not respond to any buttons. I had to re-start the console.
- The 3rd time was last night. I was playing an online hustle game, potted a ball, and the totals appeared again, and again, none of the buttons responded while the game was happily playing its music. I had to re-boot the console again.
These hangs seem to occur after playing the game for a while, like more than half an hour, but that could be coincidence…
I hope you can do anything useful with this information because this ruins the fun a little…

Well m the game is quite nice but:
The AI difficulty level is ridiculous ?!
The shots calculated on that level aren’t seen on top Eurosport tv transmissions. 3 cushions + 2 pots … yeah, what else ? Well 4 pots on the break… Every time ?! [DELETED]?
I haven’t seen hard yet but it’s probably even more ridiculous.
AI levels are totally unbalanced, easy is extremely easy, AI usually misses the shot. Medium is what HARD should be imo. But there’s no medium in the game.

still loving this game although i’ve another annoyance with it.
a) Is there a bug around the ranking points? there have been a few occassions when i’ve beaten people in ranking matches only for them to register a win as well in the previous 10 column and they don’t seem to lose any ranking points!
Just a suggestion for future releases/versions. could we have an additional game element of ‘number of racks’ please.
There are so many cowards out there that won’t play unless they have the break and given that these are one match shoot-outs, they pick off the lesser players, whereas i think they maight play if you can have a best of 3/5/7 option with alternate breaks.

Hello again, some more bug reports here apart from the earlier reported hangs.
….and I really hope somebody at SCEE actually reads this stuff
1. REPLAYS IN GENERAL
)
Sometimes, not happens that often, but an annoyance anyway, the camera is positioned above that thing with the lights on it hanging over the table. The latter obstructs the view to the table, so it is impossible to see what shot you made. I made a beautiful one! (I think, I can’t see it
2. TARGET CLEAR-UP REPLAY BROKEN
The Target Clear-Up replays do not, well, “replay”. I repeatedly restarted the game until I completed finally completed it. Then, I wanted to view the replay.
Impossible to watch: the first ball potted after the break is always throwing the message “BALL POTTED INTO THE WRONG POTTED”.
This almost seems like the replay still randomises the target pockets.
(continued in next post)

Posted on 19 January, 2010 at 12:40 pm by NavahoGL
(continued from above)
Not really bugs, but annoying nonetheless:
- Chalking control too sensitive; if you pick up the controller because you left it on the table because of a nature call, it gets chalked — unintentionally halving the amount of bonus HKC to get in the shot after it. It would be great if this could be moved to a button.
- A minor inconsistency was noticed with the messages that are shown after a game has ended. Most are full-caps, i.e. “BALL POTTED INTO WRONG POTTED”, but if you run out of time, it says “Out of time”. Not that big of a deal, it just looks a bit weird.
And it this a bug, or not? If you play the normal Clear Up, and you pot the Cue ball in your last shot, it accepts it and you completed the game. Is this really allowed in the last shot?
Love to hear about an update about this actual game!

Ah, I see I typed potted where I meant pocket. But I bet you are smart enough to get it.
