‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (7th January 2010)

So, it’s my first post of 2010, bye bye 2009 it was fun. What were your highlights of the year we’ve just left by the wayside? What are your resolutions for the coming year (apart from playing lots of games of course)?

Personally, I thought 2009 was a pretty good year for gaming, but I think from many aspects a lot of what made 2009 good for me (apart from the games actually released) were the glimpses, and promises, of what’s to come this year. Even though I didn’t manage to get there myself, I felt that E3 really cranked up the expectations of what is to come in 2010…I feel it could be a vintage year for the gaming industry (though I reserve the right to renege on this assumption this time next year, if I’m wrong).

As for my resolutions this year, I’ll be striving to help continue improving the store and the offering we make available to you all (that actually goes without saying really), I’ll try and interact with you all more than I have been thus far, and my final resolution is to get more platinum trophies!

To help us improve, this week could you do me a kindness in the comments section and provide your feedback/thoughts/requests for the store, what you’d like to see etc. I’ll be collating as much of this as possible/relevant and will try to address as much as I can in the future.

As for the content this week, the full list is below, I won’t keep blathering away, and I’ll let you get on with checking the list.
Cheers!

Awesome update! Excellent price on Cold Front as well, can’t wait to get my hands on that!

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:28 am

I’m sorry – I put the wrong pricing on SOCOM, it’s actually £7.99/€9.99

I apologise for my error :(

Hey mike =)

Only dark void for me today then

Don’t suppose a darksiders demo is on the cards? i’m not sure about buying it just yet

Nice update. Was hoping for more new avatars, maybe from Assassin’s Creed II.

Do you have any update on when the first AC2 DLC, “Battle of Forli”, will release in the US or EU? They said early January.

DuDeAcIoUs 7 January, 2010 @ 11:21 am   4

Mike’s Back!!!! Hooray at last a new update for the New Year. Hope you had a good one Mike and great start to 2010!!!!

VitalogyPJ 7 January, 2010 @ 11:23 am   8

Still can’t figure out why will Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond not be available in Portugal, or in the other countries too! Please explain that.

The PixelJunk theme is static or dynamic?

Thanks.

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:29 am

I don’t know the specific reasons, the publishers don’t give me that information, they just advise on which countries are getting the content.

PixelJunk theme is static, I’ll always mention if it’s dynamic ;)

Please I beg you make PS Store available in Turkey as well! There are ten thousands out there waiting for this! We are not expecting anything more then ability to use our Credit Cards on a PAL region to buy stuff from the Store.

It’s even so hard to buy the games, which shouldn’t be because Sony has an official partner here. It’s like buying an incapacitated Playstation 3 with a price of two. (Around $600 including taxes.)

We even can’t use Playstation Home!

Thanks for the huge update Mike, a fair few psp games in there (although not many I want ;-) )

To DuDeAcIoUs: I contacted Konami, they have no plans for Pro Evo to be put on the PSN unfortunately.

TheIsotope 7 January, 2010 @ 11:24 am   11

No ff8 still :( America got it

This must be a joke? Where is the Blink 182 songs for Rockband 2? Should Europe be a week behind again??

Hi Mike

Thanks for the update.

How are you geting no with Demon’s Souls?

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:31 am

I have to be honest, I’m not…I’m really struggling to keep playing this game. I DO like it, but I’m so bad at it and have little patience to keep persevering at present. I will pick it up again and crack on with it, because it IS a good game…I just need some hand-holding to start :)

DuDeAcIoUs 7 January, 2010 @ 11:26 am   14

@Rexel1 Ok mate cheers.
Seems a bit pointless though if its download only and then don’t follow through with making the games downloadable!!
Thanks again

Devilater 7 January, 2010 @ 11:26 am   15

Lame! No new avatars.

All we got is LBP ones.

Mike,

A few Q’s.

Whens Dead Nation comming out?
Whens Under Seige comming out?
Whens Castle Crashers comming out?
Whens Vandal Hearts comming out?
Whens Legend of Dragoon comming out?
Whens Final Fantasy 9 comming out?

I have money that needs spending.

Dannehkins 7 January, 2010 @ 11:26 am   17

£4 for the Socom Cold Front downloadable content? That’s fantastic! I was expecting it to be a lot higher.

Hope you had a good festive holiday Mike. I know I did. :D

hobgoblin 7 January, 2010 @ 11:27 am   18

Hi Mike, hope you had a good Chrimbo and New Year.

“To help us improve, this week could you do me a kindness in the comments section and provide your feedback/thoughts/requests for the store, what you’d like to see etc”

-Demos section.
-More HD film trailers (they seemed to come quite quickly when the store first opened, then they stopped altogether).
-Proper “classic” ps1 titles.
-Don’t know if it’s a store function as such, but the ability to add just £5 to your account as oppose to minimum of £10.

I think that’s it.

thenoobkiller 7 January, 2010 @ 11:27 am   19

£3.99 for Socom DLC? Nice one. Faith is now partially restored. Especially seeing as most of us expected to be royally shafted and charged double the US price.

Good work Fellas. :)

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:36 am

Again I have to point out that I made a mistake and put the wrong price on the update, it’s actually £7.99/€9.99, sorry for the mistake :(

Great start to the year there.

Bahamut44-4 7 January, 2010 @ 11:29 am   21

Happy New Year Mike!

Excellent update to kick start the year. Going to pick up the Magic Ball (Orbz?) dlc and maybe Matt Hazard. Glad to see the standard disney game back. ;)

On the feedback front my biggest gripe with the store;

DEMO SECTION! Please try and clean up the very muddled ‘Game’ section. Half of what is actually in there arent games but Demos and DLC. We need demos and games split up so that browsing isnt such a complete chore.

Also is it true the the Marvel UA2 dlc wont be coming back? I was planning on getting that game. What gives?

And any news (timeframe?) on any new avatars? Love the LBP ones and have purchased 2 but we need moar (Tenzin maybe?) ;D

Cheers!

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:37 am

The publisher requested the MUA2 to be removed from the store, I don’t think it’ll be likely to be coming back either. Sorry.

TheIsotope 7 January, 2010 @ 11:31 am   22

Mike just tell me FF8 is coming nxt week and i will let you off the hook :P, did you have a good Christmas and Happy New Year !! :)

DuDeAcIoUs 7 January, 2010 @ 11:31 am   23

Do you know when this be live mike?

ShogunDarius 7 January, 2010 @ 11:31 am   24

I won’t lie (its not my style to) i am dissapointed by the lack of FF8, though that being said i seem to have been waiting over a year for suikoden but i am glad to see we got the borderlands dlc, and finally military madness. BTw there’s no day like a snow day.

Dannehkins 7 January, 2010 @ 11:32 am   25

I just read Mike’s comment.

Just if other people [DELETED] it, the Socom Confrontation Cold Front Pack will be £7.99

AngelVsMadman 7 January, 2010 @ 11:32 am   26

Any chance for Wing Commander IV, or dynamic Themes (like the Star Trek from the US Store, or MW2)?

Hey Mike, good update, when are we going to see Final Fantasy VIII in our stores? Americans are actually playing it…
Answer please =(

mrfight67 7 January, 2010 @ 11:33 am   28

Awesome start to the year!

So many games for PSP, well done! Buying the lbp pack, is it free? Might even buy monsters inc for ps1, loved that game as a child.

Also mike, i brought thrillville, and it’s been taken down now, but i sent an email just before xmas about it to customer care, and i haven’t had a reply. Will i be getting a refund? If so when? Or are you re-uploading the english one? I wanted a re-fund before today because i would have brought loco roco 2 for £7.99 :(

Thank you in advance.

Mike these blogs need a reply button for users. Can you pass it on to your web designers?

Oh Mike.

You must be joking…

Could we possibly get an explanation as to why SCEA gave the US a discount of around 30% for the first 48 hours on Socom Confrontation: Cold Front to “reward their patience and loyalty” – (Slant6). And yet here in the EU stores we have had to wait an additional 3 weeks (where we got to play against American gamers who had more weapons and advantages over the Christmas break) and SCEE has announced no discount for our loyalty and patience.

I know I speak for the entire EU Socom community when I ask why we have been undervalued and insulted yet again. We aren’t asking for the DLC to be free or making any unreasonable requests, we just want to be treated the same as everyone else, you know. Perhaps you or Chris Weatherhead could shed some light on this?

lots of nice stuff for my PSP. Gonna get Daxter, the LBP DLC and This Is Football Management which looks great!

sam_reynolds01 7 January, 2010 @ 11:34 am   32

Is there any prices for these?

“LittleBigPlanet – The Sack That Time Forgot Level Pack (£/€)

Buzz! Quiz World – Video Games Quiz (£/€)”

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:40 am

Prices are being loaded up now, I didn’t have that info when I wrote this the other day ;)

£3.99 British Pounds for Socom DLC = 4.44 Euros? …cheap :O

that’s realy cheap ,i can’t wait… :D

Matty-Tattie 7 January, 2010 @ 11:37 am   34

any idea about the video store? i wouldnt mind finding out which films will be up for rent in the near future. thanks

Hey Mike

One piece of feedback – is it at all possible to allow use of the XMB whilst browsing the store? Because when I find something I want to download but I have the message pop up saying I’ve no disk space, I have to quit the store to delete other files, and then enter the store again to find the content I was after; I just think its a bit long winded….or am I just lazy? Hmmm.

Thanks :)

betahoven 7 January, 2010 @ 11:38 am   36

I wasn’t expecting a good update this week with it being the first one of the year, but there’s plenty of content there.

Wasn’t TV Show King released last year? Is this just a new demo?

My suggestion for the store would be to get rid of the genre categories in the A-Z section. They’re just confusing.

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:44 am

TV Show King is already available, but this is a trial and unlock version for those who want to try before they buy ;)

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:44 am

As for the genres, they’re there just an an additional option for people to browse by too…I think for some people they’re quite handy.

ShogunDarius 7 January, 2010 @ 11:39 am   37

oh matt hazard, i swaer i was one of the few people to play the main game and love it for its parody on other games, you gonna get it mike?

Dutch_Rootsman 7 January, 2010 @ 11:40 am   38

Hi Mike,

Happy New Year.

My requests for the Playstation Store for 2010 are as follows:
* More PSone Classics
* Parity between physical and digital releases for PSP games
* Parity between regions for digital releases (otherwise known as: why isn’t the new Borderlands DLC coming out in Australia)
* More accountability: ie. It is not always the developer’s fault
* Lower prices

Thanks, hope you had a good break.

Dutch

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:45 am

All things I’d love to happen Dutch, thanks, and yes I had a great break, hope you did too.

ShogunDarius 7 January, 2010 @ 11:41 am   39

mike i just read your reply about MUA2 dlc, may i ask was there something wrong with it? I actually got that dlc from the store so am i at risk of some bad code or something?

StromboyX 7 January, 2010 @ 11:41 am   40

When will we see FF VIII and possibly FF IX ?

@Nick-82, its £7.99, if you read Mike’s Replies, you’ll see he made a mistake.

mrfight67 7 January, 2010 @ 11:42 am   42

Also mike, i brought thrillville, and it’s all in french, and it’s been taken down now, but i sent an email just before xmas about it to customer care, and i haven’t had a reply. Will i be getting a refund? If so when? Or are you re-uploading the english one? I wanted a re-fund before today because i would have brought loco roco 2 for £7.99 (Reposted because i forgot to say its in french, that’s why i want a refund)

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:47 am

I’m not sure I can advise on that one I’m afraid, I’m not involved with the consumer services team, sorry.

Disguises 7 January, 2010 @ 11:43 am   43

Waiting for ffviii myself :D. Any word about crash bandicoot 2 heading back to the store? Nostalgia is getting to me and i need to play it again!

AcidCrashX 7 January, 2010 @ 11:43 am   44

Nice update guys! Plenty of content to bring in the New Year and some PSN classics aimed at fight fans like me ;) appreciated: D

As for the store I won’t bang on about content, you do a good job as it is with that what I’m more interested in is getting around the store. How about 2 sections with games under 4 and 7 pounds? (Or equivalent for other stores around the EU) the Genre headers are a bit mad and some games I would expect in one category are in completely different ones, redefinition would be beneficial to help keep the store trim.

User ratings? Or how about pulling scores from metacritic (or another score generator) if user ratings aren’t possible? Game descriptions are all well and good but most of the time its PR driven rubbish.

Happy New Year Mike and Co, hope you had a great time! :) on and grats on the AC2 Plat Mike! I got that over the Christmas break too! (along with Dead Space and Uncharted 2 plats.. but you know, its not a competition ;))

What does the team think of the Dark Void demo btw?

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:48 am

Someone’s been on Steam lately I see ;)

I think user ratings would be a great addition too, something I’d love to see on the store.

Mike, Why is not this weeks DLC for Rockband 2 on the list?

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:49 am

The RB content is on the list, it’s the ‘going country’ tracks and pack this week.

I’m looking forward to This is Football Management :D

ALIEN1978 7 January, 2010 @ 11:44 am   47

Hi Mike and happy new year to you hope you didnt get to drunk or put on to much weight cool update and more trophies for me to get i currently have 2515 trophies how many have you got

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:50 am

I had a fairly sedate break actually (you?), now need to crack on with the training in preparation for my first fight this year.

You certainly have me beat on trophy count…I’m level 10 with 596 trophies at last count I believe.

now it’s 7.99 pounds ??! 10min before it was 3.99 ………….what a joke

us 3 weeks earlyer, and 9.99 dollar.. is 6.50 euro, why we must pay even more for the DLC

    Mike Kebby 7 January, 2010 @ 11:51 am

The price was never meant to be 3.99, that was MY MISTAKE I’m afraid. Apologies for the confusion.

Thanks Mike, great update.

This year, I would like to see the Slitherine products on the PS Store! Also, I would like to see some of the games that are already on the US store brought across. I am sure you guys are working on it already, but a game not being on the store is frustrating enough. A game being on the US store but STILL not on the EU store, even more so!

Have a great 2010!

Silent_Gig 7 January, 2010 @ 11:47 am   50
