Hi everyone! It’s Scott Hyman, back yet again with news about more fun content from TikGames-Creat Studios. I hope everyone enjoyed a great holiday season.
First off, we’re making a change… the coolest brick-breaker on the PlayStation Network has a new name, and some great new content to go along with it.
What was once Magic Ball is now MAGIC ORBZ!
So, I know what you’re thinking: “That is the greatest name that I’ve ever heard in the history of gaming, and I wish that I thought of it myself.” No, that’s not it? OK, then it’s “I am so impressed. Everything really does sound much better if you just add a ‘z’ at the end.” Not that, either? How about “Well, now that it’s called Magic Orbz, I simply have to play it. How could I possibly pass that up?” See… that IS what you’re thinking. You just don’t know it yet.
But seriously, we like the sound of it, and we like to play it even more. And to make you really love the name, we made a new Add-On Pack so you can stay up super-late trying to beat every new level and lose even more sleep while singing the praises of Magic Orbz.
For those of you not familiar, Magic Orbz presents a fresh spin on classic brick-breaking gameplay, enabling players to bust apart bright, colorful 3D environments, piece by piece. Using realistic physics and a super-high-tech system of object destruction, Magic Orbz is presented in stunning 1080p with Multiplayer Online and in-game live voice communications.
The new Winter Theme Add-On Pack is filled with penguins, igloos, polar bears, and lots and lots of snow and ice, featuring 25 new levels to creatively destroy, and new trophies to discover. The Winter Theme Pack will be available for €2.99/£1.99 on January 7th in Europe.
For those that have already enjoyed the wonder of Magic B… err, Magic Orbz, a patch is available to properly re-name your favorite PSN game!
As always, everyone at TikGames-Creat Studios thanks you all for your support, your feedback, and your purchase. We all work very hard to bring you great games, and we make sure to read everything that comes our way from our fans. We can’t do what we love without you!

Why was the name changed?
Posted on 11 January, 2010 at 8:08 pm by Scott Hyman
Because we wanted to, moriarity1975! Baseball, Dodgeball, Football, Pinball… we were just part of a pack. Now we’re ORBZ! Long live the orbz!

Big Fish Games published a PC title, developed by Dream Dale) in July 2004 called “Magic Ball”.
Maybe that had something to do with the name change.

“The Winter Theme Pack will be available for €2.99/£1.99 on January 7th in Europe.”
WRONG!!! It’s £2.39 on the uk psn store.

Thanks for pointing that out, xchris2008x. We’ll get that corrected right away.

I’d wondered why the name was different last time I loaded it up. This is game is probably my second most favorite breakout type of game of the last ten years after Shatter. I find even though they’re based on the same concept they play and feel different enough to have both.

We’re so glad that you enjoy Magic Orbz, Carnivius_Prime, and I know that you’ll love the new Add-On Pack.

Nice namechange,
The last level of that winter pack gave me some serious trouble but eventually I beat it, and gotten 100% again
But I’m curious, is the next pack going to be Easter?
Pleaz, tell me I’m right, I’d love to use orbz to beat the hell out of easter bunniez..
Posted on 11 January, 2010 at 8:22 pm by Scott Hyman
Thanks, Volmer.
Oooooh, a bunny level! Nothing like a good video game to take out all that pent-up aggression against defenseless bunnies!
I can’t make any promises, but I like where you’re going with that one.

Maybe “Demadred” and me can share a No(R)way DLC
Posted on 11 January, 2010 at 8:39 pm by Scott Hyman
Viking Pack! Very cool idea. So far today, between the US and EU blogs, we’re had suggestion for vikings, ninjas and bunnies. Maybe we should make a pack feature bunnies dressed as viking ninjas?

WOW What a great idea!
What about a “Viking Ninja Bunnie: The hunt for Easter eggs”. Not all the stuff but one who does it all!
Posted on 11 January, 2010 at 8:45 pm by Scott Hyman
OK, that’s one vote for Viking Ninja Bunnies!
Any other ideas?

Alchemist DLC, Moon DLC(Or some space stuff), Underwater DLC. Great games have endless opportunities on DLC(you know that).
BTW: The game is still called “Magic Ball” on Creat Studios webpage.
Yes, i’m a bit picky!
Posted on 11 January, 2010 at 8:53 pm by Scott Hyman
Look at you, vicheous, playing internet detective!
Yeah, we still have to get around to changing the name on the website. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.

Magic Orbz? Guys – the new name sucks! It’s also an anagram of Crab Gizmo – maybe I just gave you an idea for your next game!
Posted on 11 January, 2010 at 8:56 pm by Scott Hyman
I think you just did, reakt. I’m going to get a team together to start work on Crab Gizmo tomorrow.

So we cam make suggestions too now? Awesome!
Well since there are already meteors-, lightning- and storm power-orbs.. I’d like to use those to wipe out a Dinosaur-pack?
Posted on 11 January, 2010 at 9:12 pm by Scott Hyman
DINOSAURS! Now we’re talking. I am going to have to personally push for a dinosaur pack. I love the idea, and my son would love it, too!

I hate the new name, another pointless usage of the letter z, however this will not stop my from buying the game :-p

A Wild West level pack would be nice.
Sorry Scott, I’m having trouble believing your reason for the name change as being that you just fancied a change. Perhaps I’m desensitised by the legal shenanigans that we read about daily as regards trademark disputes etc. but I have trouble believing that a company would want to change its game’s name after such a long time on the market without being forced to do so.
Sorry for the accusatory nature of this post, but it seems such an odd thing to do for an established title.

Why not Magic Ballz for the sake of adding z?
On second thought… I kinda guess why.

I knew a game slipped under my radar and it was this!
Watching that trailer has really made me want to purchase this game. I’ll look for it on the PSN when I get home from work. It looks like some chaotic fun!

well, that’s a first, ive seen patches to change other parts of games but i’ve never seen one to change the name.

I’m guessing the name change was caused by some kind of Trademark/Copyright issue – ‘Magic Orbz’ is probably easier to trademark or something…
As for the DLC suggestions so far, a Space/Sci-fi pack and a Dinosaur/Prehistoric pack are the two that sound most interesting to me – you could even release them in the same DLC as a nice combo for far into the past and far into the future…
In fact that’s just given me an idea – how about a Time Travel Pack! You could work your way from Dinosaur levels through to Space/Future levels! That would keep things interesting and stop it getting too repetative as well. Assuming it would have 24 new levels you could have 6 periods in history with 4 levels in each era, or 6 levels for 4 eras if you struggle with ideas! There are plenty of time-based themes and periods of history you could use though, and it would give the levels a bit more structure – Orbz sound like the type of things that could travel through time too, you could even add a storyline to it!
Suppose the only downside is it would be more work as you would be creating lot’s of different assets instead of just recycling the same ones over 24 levels, it’s something to consider for Magic Orbz 2 though…
