Yes, it may be the start of a new decade, (where are those flying cars and robot butlers, by the way) but I’m here to celebrate the past… or more specifically, the past of videogames. Why am I revelling in the world of yesterday? Well, it’s because I’m here to announce a brand new PlayStation 3 exclusive: 3D Dot Game Heroes – a nostalgic wonder-fuelled time-travelling trip back to the glory days of 8-bit gaming. And it’s coming to Europe this May. Rejoice!
3D Dot Games Heroes takes its inspiration from classic role-playing games released on ancient consoles that are now appearing on the Antiques Roadshow. In fact, people who played videogames throughout the 1980s will fall to their knees and weep when they see Dot’s many homages to the games that defined their childhood (I’ve seen it happen). It’s a virtual trip down memory lane complete with swords, wizards and monsters.
However, this is modern retro, so it has splendid PlayStation 3-powered graphics that give traditional sprites a new 3D lease of life, simple pick-up-and-play controls, which hark back to a time when you didn’t need a load of buttons just to open your inventory, and a fun tongue-in-cheek storyline with plenty of links to the past… ahem.
But, one of the greatest features of 3D Dot Game Heroes (and there are plenty to choose from) is the sweet character creation system so you can make your own blocky hero. Whether you fancy becoming an adventuring cat, a hard-as-nails robot, or a ‘tribute’ to a well known videogame character, you just have to build them using the straight forward and intuitive system. Or you can pick from one of the ready-made characters, who each have their own unique traits.
Well, that’s it for now, so here’s that important release info again: 3D Dot Game Heroes will be released by SouthPeak Games on PlayStation 3 in Europe this May. To keep up to date with more details, head to www.southpeakgames.eu or www.3ddotgameheroes.com/ and hopefully I’ll be back with some more Dot Heroes info soon…

Thanks so much for bringing this over! I tend to avoid importing games because of the added costs but I was on the edge of importing this. Looks awesome.

Great news!
I won’t have to import as for Demon’s Souls.
It could lead to more Atlus games coming in Europe.

I’ve one question, and please, please, PLEASE answer this: are you planning to bring the DLC (to be released in Japan this month) to European Stores? I’ll choose between the American and European version by that.

..Oh, @Molin, it’s not an Atlus game. Why do people keep saying that? It’s merely released in NA by Atlus — it’s developed by From Software, the makers of Armored Core, Demon’s Souls, Tenchu and Ninja Blade, among others.

The EU release and english translation has been licensed from Atlus from the looks of things. You could still technically see it as being an “Atlus” game because of that.

This is absolutely fantastic! I’ve been keeping an eye out for this title, and I’m really glad to know it’ll be released in Europe. 100% buying this.

@Typpihappo
Yeah, I now it’s from From Software, I was just referring to Demon’s Souls being released by Atlus in US but not in EU.. as a publisher and all. But you’re right, it’s a From Software game

people [DELETED] about prizes… How much did you pay for SNES games back in the days? I paid about Fl. 140,- which is about 65 euro’s or something. PC games were Fl. 99,- which is about 50 euro’s. Prizes stayed the same, no need to cry.

Apparently a recent patch added a 1-2GB install, cutting loadtimes to practically nil, like they should be!

If SouthPeak are willing to bring such a niche title to Europe, maybe Sony could let them publish Demon’s Souls here?
I already have it, so it’s not a big deal to me, but I’m sure there’s still a great deal of people wanting to play it.

Hmmm… quite…specific…
But who knows, maybe this is the next big RPG title?

Great news. Now would you kindly release Demon’s Souls as well, please?

Looks like fun. I just wanted to add to the list of Deamon’s Souls in Europe people. Such a awesome game, i couldn’t wait for you guys to get in gear so i imported a copy from the US. What i would also like to ask is that i think Deamon’s Souls still has a lot of mileage and would love to see DLC for it in the future. Of course i’m already presuming that you will release it in Europe but then you would be stupid not to right?! Ahhh such a small voice in a big world, but who knows?
Away i look forward to playing this…

Is there an online component. I am quite keen on getting this game actually?
Will SouthPeak games be publishing Demon Souls in Europe as well?

Sorry i meant Demon’s soul not Deamon’s souls, copy + paste error. Just so there’s no confusion…

You’re bringing this instead of Demon’s Souls? Don’t expect me to buy it. I’m only interested in Demon’s Souls. At least until that one is released over here.

I’ll be the next person joining the Demon’s Souls EU release movement. I’d love to play this game, but buying it at a very high import price cap is not on my wishlist.

Thanks guys. I was prepared to import it (since it’s a From Software game that Atlus picked up, just like Demon’s Souls which never came to Europe), but this is simply awesome news.
