Hi everyone ! It’s Allison from NIS America who is flipping that she’s back on the Sony Blog to talk about Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days. And, CONTEST ALERT! Yes, there are prizes to be had, which I’ll tell you about in a bit. But, a tad more patience, please…
You might believe that Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days is just another re-release of a fantastic game, but what some of you might not know is that NIS has improved on the fantastic part. The programmers and designers got together to create some goodies to render the game play even more interesting and the story hilarious: 4 new chapters, Axel, a new main character, Magichange, and a ton of cameos from your beloved Disgaea cast of suspects.
The most important addition is the 4 new chapters featuring Axel, the has-been pop star with a crushing family responsibility. Pining to be at the top once more with hordes of screaming fans anxious to get a piece of him, Axel stumbles upon an opportunity to take part in a superhero show popular among kids. He sees himself already at the top only to… well, you’ll be able to find out what destiny has in mind for him when you play the game.
Next lovely addition: Disgaea 2 has Magichange, the newfangled weapon system from Disgaea 3. This tricky little system enables monster allies to transform into a weapon. What’s even trickier is that you, the gamer, will gain the different skills depending on the type of monster / weapon, which will enable you to inflict massive amounts of damage!
But, did they stop there? Oh noooo! If you place a monster-type character next to a Magichanged human-type character, and then execute the Magichange command again, voilà: you have now performed “Magichange 2,” which helps you gain 100% (yay!) of the EXP and Mana gained through defeated enemies for all three characters. So, the choice is yours: defeat by weapon techniques or by system manipulation. There’s got to be something political in that…
And, now, let’s get down to the contest business: I’m sure that when you’re playing Disgaea games, you can’t help but think, “But if Laharl had this weapon, he’d annihilate this tossa!” Well, let us know what that weapon is. Email us your 100-word description of the ultimate weapon for your favourite Disgaea character with a picture to illustrate (if you so choose, but it’s not necessary) to eu-contest@nisamerica.com. Please put “Ultimate Weapon” in the Subject field. The contest starts TODAY and finishes at the release of the game, 5 February. And what are the prizes?
First prize:
- 1 full game of Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days, the World of Disgaea 2 art book, and a Laharl Prinny (unexplodable…sorry!)
Second prize:
- 1 full game of Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days and an unexplodable Laharl Prinny
We’ll post the winners on our new Facebook, NIS America in Europe and Australia. And, in the meantime, please check out the official Disgaea 2 website.
And, don’t forget to sign up for our Twitter account,NISAinEurope.
P.S. Next post, we’ll talk more about our next PS3 title, Last Rebellion, the story of two fighters who share fate and battles.
P.P.S. I still have no word concerning the Disgaea 3 trophies. As soon as I do, I’ll let you know here, on Facebook and Twitter. Promise.

Yay ^-^
I’m really looking forward to this game… although i am still playing Disgaea 3 and Afternoon of Darkness to become at least one lv9999 character, i can’t resist buying this
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:39 pm by Allison Walter
It IS a great addition to the Disgaea series. Disgaea 2 is a bit different from the other Disgaea stories, because it gives you a glimpse of how the Netherworlds (plural is intentional) function.

Yep – still wading though Disgaea 1 and 3 on the PSP and PS3 respectively. Had this on pre-order for a LONG time now. The wait is nearly over…
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:45 pm by Allison Walter
As I said, it’s a little different because you get to see how the Netherworld functions… I know you will enjoy as much as the others.

the disgaea games aare quickly becomming my favourite games at the moment, cant wait for disgaea 2 dark hero days, do you happen to know its price and most important to myself as a pspgo owner will it be on the store at the same time as the umd copy
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:44 pm by Allison Walter
In the UK, it should be priced at 23.99, and yes, it will be offered on PSN as well. The game should be made available in brick and mortar stores and on PSN simultaneously, but sometimes there is a lag of a day or 2.

I’m really looking forward to this one. The first game that I played in this genre of games was Disgaea 1 when it was released it on PSN a few months ago, and I’m still playing it.
Will the game be available on PSN the 5th as well, or is that date only for the retail version?
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:46 pm by Allison Walter
It should be offered simultaneously, but at times there is a lag of a day or two. I hope this time it will all come together.

I don’t suppose you have any news on the Disgaea 3 EU trophy patch do you? Seems like we’ve been waiting forever…
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:49 pm by Allison Walter
It does seem like forever, but as I said in the P.P.S. in the Blog post, no word yet. Sorry!

I couldn’t wait for this to be released in Australia so imported it from the Rosenqueen store
Very fun and addictive game, perfect for the commute to work.
Please release Sakura Wars for PAL gamers too, I was going to import that but shipping prices at Rosenqueen have more than doubled.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:56 pm by Allison Walter
We are definitely releasing SW in Europe, but on Wii, so please contact us on Facebook for more on it.

@ 7
The main post does say there’s no news on the trophies. I’m not carrying on Disgaea 3 until it’s released – seeing as I’ve barely started…
@ 9
Sakura Wars is a Wii game? Anyway, it’s got an April release date on their website.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:57 pm by Allison Walter
Very early April we hope.

Does this mean Disgaea 2 is coming to psn to download like the original has?
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:58 pm by Allison Walter
The original? Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days for PSP really is a different version from Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, because it has a new story line added and there will be DLC to expand the story line.

How can a “Product and Development Manager for Europe” not know about trophies? “no word” would just mean that no one is taking care of it… “we don´t have a date yet but it´s comming” is still bad but what we need.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 4:59 pm by Allison Walter
I’m sorry that I don’t program games. If I did, I would be able to make it happen. We have to wait for our programmers to make time to convert the trophies for Euro standards.

@12
From what I understand, NIS (the Japanese developers) are holding up the trophy patch so blame them. XD
Apologies if I’m wrong by the way.

Thanks for remembering, SurrealNightmare.

@10 As far as I’m aware, Europe is only getting the butchered Wii version of Sakura Wars, rather than the proper two-disc PS2 version.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 10:24 pm by Allison Walter
Hi Harhol. Any talk about Sakura Wars you can address to us at eu-support@nisamerica.com.

Any chance of seeing this available for download via PSN at a similar time to the UMD launch? NIS do seem to be better at getting downloadables up than most. I still need to finish the first one though so I can probably wait.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 5:03 pm by Allison Walter
We like downloads, because it allows games to be always available. Please read the reply to post 5 above.

I am waiting to purchase Disgaea 3 but won’t do so till we get the trophy patch as I want to win my trophies during a play through. Same happened with Flow, but by the time I realised the trophies weren’t available I had already purchased it.
Hopefully the pricing of Disgaea 2 on PSN will be more Disgaea 1, than Prinny!! I gotta give you a heads up, http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Sony-PSP-Pre-orders/Sony/Disgaea-2:-Dark-Her o-Days-(Sony-PSP) – £13.95 is the benchmark here sorry! If you can get this on store for less than that it will be a day one purchase for me!
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 5:15 pm by Allison Walter
That is a strange price for a fairly new product in North America and an unreleased one in Europe, especially as Disgaea 1 and 3 are more expensive on the same site. I feel it must be a typo or something. In any case, I’ve asked for more information.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 10:26 pm by Allison Walter
Hi again. I’ve been checking on your price quote, and all I can say is please beware. There might be a hidden markup after ordering.

Are these the only two Laharl Prinny’s in Europe? I just searched google and couldn’t find one?
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 5:22 pm by Allison Walter
We are sending them over from our warehouses here in North America, because you can’t buy them in Europe. You’d have to buy it as an import.

Thanks god it’s finally comming! I just hope I’ll be able to find this on the PS Store, since that’s my only chance to get this game for my Go.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 5:22 pm by Allison Walter
No worries there. It will definitely be offered on PSN.

That was… insane. In a good way. I think.
Any news yet on when.. whether Phantasy Star Portable 2 will be translated?

Looks like a fin game, but I don’t know who has picked this one up.

Cool prizes!
Looks like it’s time to get my thinking cap on and submit a weapon. Thanks for also mentioning about the Disgaea 3 trophies situation.

Thanks, Ikkarus. Come up with a hot weapon!

I really like Disgaea and this might spur me on to complete the first one. I’m near the end but its getting pretty hard.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 5:26 pm by Allison Walter
Disgaea 2 gives you a different story line with a similar gameplay. And, I know what you mean about it getting tough…
24
Posted on 24 January, 2010 at 2:37 pm by Bumblebee
Really and ideally, you should mention what FORMAT the game is coming out on in the post. Sure, Disgaea fans will realise it’s PSP but it’s not mentioned in the text, only from the box art image.
Also, like many others on here, I own Disgaea 3 but I am not going to play it until the trophy patch is available. I never, ever, EVER trade my games in – I own about 50 PS3 disc-based games – but I have considered trading in D3 just because it’s collecting dust.
I know you said you’d let us know about the patch but we have been waiting FAR TOO LONG. I am not impressed! A promise to tell us is one thing. It would be nice to know it is being worked on.
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 5:29 pm by Allison Walter
True, I did forget to stipulate it’s on PSP. Thanks for the correction. I’d love to tell you the trophies are being worked on, but we can only ask the programmers when they will have time. They are very busy on upcoming games. I wish I could tell you something more…

@12 – A “Product and Development Manager” has very little to do with online updates as most companies have a separate team to deal with these issues (I cannot speak for NIS whether they do or not).
@Alison – Are there any plans to bring Badman 2 over to Europe after the planned March release for those across the pond? Or is it still very much under wraps?
26
Posted on 25 January, 2010 at 5:32 pm by Allison Walter
Hi, Yorkshire007! Thanks for understanding my job description. As for What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord? 2, please give me a few more days…

Hot weapons are coming in! Thanks for submitting your ideas. It’s going to be difficult to choose winners, that’s for sure!

Posted on 26 January, 2010 at 3:51 am by Bumblebee
Hey Allison – thanks very much for the response. I do realise it’s not your fault we don’t hae the trophies and I bet you’d give them to us if you could! But if we gamers just sit down and shut up then the programmers would never bother doing any work, would they! I think it’s particularly painful for us as the Americans apparently have the trophy patch. We have often been disregarded as an afterthought as gamers in Europe (by Sony) and hoped that with PS3 and the global online community that this would have all been sorted out by now.
Posted on 26 January, 2010 at 11:27 pm by Allison Walter
Hi Bumblebee. No offense taken. Actually, we ask at least once a month for the patch. We are working really hard to make our products released at the same time, so there is little discrepancy between the two continents. Believe me! I will have a PARTY when those trophies are done. Thanks!

OK, thanks.
A few days (or weeks) here and there isn’t a big deal for me, I just asked since with PSN in Europe you never really know what to expect. I’m glad that I’ll be able to play it sometime in February then.
