VidZone Update: MTV, Smooth Operators, And A Whole Lot Of Hassle

You tell us to “jump”… We say “how high?”… You say “very high”… We say “We will try!!”… And we do. Each week we try to get exactly what you are asking for. Obviously there are sometimes pretty big obstacles in the way but we do everything in our power… If it was up to us we would be jumping over the moon for you guys. We have some exciting things coming up soon that you will definitely want to be hearing about but until then… Here is the next couple of weeks’ updates to keep you busy.

FIRST OF ALL
The awesome people of MTV are running a month long campaign in Scandinavia promoting VidZone on their website and TV channel. They’re also running a competition to test your music video knowledge with the person scoring highest in each territory winning a PS3, the person with the overall highest score will also win tickets to see Alphabeat live. Bloody hell!!

You can enter the competitions here: this is only open to residents in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark.

During the campaign we’ll be featuring MTV’s top 20 videos on our homepage, Including Alphabeat, Black Eyed Peas and Beyonce.

These are videos we have been watching in the office and the videos we think you should watch… anywhere you want… Well wherever you have your PlayStation. This week with Crookers, Miike Snow and Chris Brown.

Best Remixes
Sometimes a remix gets so popular that it gets its own video… Now we think these videos need to be bought to your attention because you may not realise they existed. Remixes of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and Avril Lavigne included.

Valentines Playlist
You are… once… twice… three times a lady… and you deserve smoochy love videos. Ok so Lionel has a better way with words than me… but you get the picture. All the love songs you could ever need for that oh so special day.

Anti-Love Songs
Do vomit inducing love songs make you want to smash your neighbours’ flower pots in rage? Well never fear we have the antidote. Videos from Alice Cooper and Puddle of Mudd. Now go tell your neighbours to relax.

Brit Awards 2010 (UK and Ireland)
The Brit awards are upon us and we have videos from all the nominees including Dizzee Rascal and Cheryl Cole.

Underground Acts

I thought MTV and VidZone was rivals!? Weird. I´m almost shocked to hear that MTV still exists, who watches that channel these days when its so easy to choose which video you want to look at and when, for example on Vidzone or youtube.

Looking forward to some electro, that some real [DELETED]

And yeah, you really need to upload some, or a lot actually, Daft Punk greatness! If you havent done so already. Don´t ask me which songs, all Daft Punk songs should be up in there!

well that was a load of rubbish! thought i’d do the competition here in sweden. went to mtv’s website to find the competition only ran between the 1st and 2nd febuary. today is the 4th…. still i already have a ps3 so hopefully some new will be able to enjoy it. but please get out with the info before the competition closes!!!!

Hi the Ben, i was wondering in anyone form Portugal has the same problem i have: Buraka Som Sistema, a portuguese band, appear on my search as an artist but there are never any videoclips to watch :/

You know what would make Vidzone awesome for me? A website where I would be able to create a playlist, log in to the PS# and have the list download. You know, like you can do with Buzz on mybuzzquiz.com. The only thing stopping me from using Vidzone regularly is the time consuming search function. Other than that, great stuff and keep up the good work!

How come when i´m searching on Nephew, they show up, but there is no videoes. Shouldn´t they have been a “launch” artist here i Scandinavia??

Ben there is a massive error in your library which makes hundreds of videos unplayable each week at random. A few examples are Robyn – Dream On, all of Basshunter’s videos, and all of Simply Red videos, I’ve already contacted ps-prob….. and they haven’t replied.

Ben, firstly thanks for an awesome update – great stuff.

Secondly, can I ask why a lot of my favourite videos are disappearing from VidZone? For example I was browsing the dance category and small percentage of clips have exclamation marks next to them meaning they’re not available. All the Benny Benassi ones for example. When I try my old Dance playlists – the ones you guys offered at launch, it’s surprising how many of the tracks in those playlists are now unavailable. What I’d like to know – is this a temporary glitch? or has there been licensing issues with particular publishers?, or what’s going on…? Cheers mate.

In answer to your question, you are right with the licensing. Sometimes we have to take videos down for various licensing reasons. We are working to get all the videos back that have been lost and hopefully they will be back soon. My suggestion is, keep them in your playlists and hopefully they will go back live very soon.

Great work Vidzone (L), but guys… seriously… give us bands from the golden age of REAL ROCK, bands like KISS, Journey, Kansas and my favorite, Iron Maiden and many more!

To whom should I turn to if I have requests like these?

We are not shunning Muse, we love them as much as you and would love to have them on our service. We are working on clearing the label they are on. Fingers crossed we should have them soon.
