As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
- The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
- When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
- When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”
- When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
- Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused.
For the latest status on this situation please check either PlayStation.Blog, Twitter or PlayStation.com.

well 25 mins to 00:00GMT here hoping that it will resolve itself (not bloody likely). this is complete BS, just the same as everybody who is A. Telling everyone to shut up complaining, we have the right having spent stupid amounts of money on our consoles and B. those calling for a free game or slim. yes because even sony can afford to replace the 10,000′s of consoles that could(and i use the term lightly) be screwed.

In reply to BNGFCE you are totally wrong!
I have both consoles and I have never experienced any problems with my XBOX 360 like this, the only issue I had with XBOX 360 was my wireless headset stopped working when it was 5 months old, I phoned XBOX 360 to complain even though they only have a 3 month warranty and they replaced it for me, so that is what I call customer service. This whole SONY PS3 issue is a joke, they havent got a clue whats caused the problem and even worse they don’t know how to fix it. Which leads me to the question, what would be the point of replacing peoples consoles when this problem that they don’t know the answer to could happen again and again!.

went up to go to the toilet and couldn’t help myself from checking more stupid comments, i noticed some complain on money spent this is ps3 stuff i have bought:
1 40gig phat ps3 (replaced the hdd with a 160gig hdd)
2 sony ds3 extra controllers
2 sony playstation eyes
1 sony bluetooth blu-ray remote
1 sony bluetooth headset
3 guitars
1 turntable
2 sony microphones
1 sony hdmi cable
1 optic cable
150 games
20 psn games
and i’m still not bothered, the techies at sony are ofcourse working on it, the pr people doesn’t understand what the problem and ofcourse they cannot explain it so neither of them will answer you anything until it’s solved and the techies tell the pr ppl what they shall say what was the error was.
debug ps3′s are also affected if anyone would like to know.

it’s 0:38 and still not online. And i understand people react differently to this news let’s not trash talk about what people say.
I got a 60 gb version and if they cant fix it and i have to send it i will not accept a slim line for 2 reason: it’s looks cheap and ugly and no ps2 compatability.
A 80 gb good system and a ps2 for that i will settle or compensation of the money that i spent on all my ps2 games.

What I’m not liking about this is the fact thay’ve told people not to switch on their ps3′s until it’s sorted, what about us who switched on just after midnight when people were only just realising things were wrong? have we lost saves/trophies/purchased items?if we have lost things we purchased, will Sony replace them or refund the money for said items? People are saying to relax, it’s a free service that’s gones wrong but I paid £300 just for the system never mind all the extra I’ve spent on games, donwloads, etc. If (and I realise this is a big if) it doesn’t work again, that’s a lot of money wasted. I can’t afford that. The biggest kicker tho has to be the fact it’s happened to the most loayl fans, the one’s who were there at the start or shortly after, the recent newcomers to PSN have escaped unscathed.
